The COVID-19 outbreak is a global health concern. Understanding the transmission modes of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is key to limit the spread of the pandemic. A lack of knowledge about the possibility of SARS-CoV-2 transmission and infection through contaminated surfaces is noticeable and recent studies have stated conflicting findings. This scoping review aims to understand the risks of contaminations via fomites better. Relevant publications were selected through Google Scholar, Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, Medline, and Cochrane Library, with related keywords. PRISMA-ScR guidelines were followed. Out of the 565 articles found, exclusion criteria were applied, duplicates removed, and a total of 25 articles were finally included in the study. The included documents were assessed by the contamination risk: “low” (37.5%), “high” (16.7%), “plausible” (8.3%), “unlikely” (8.3%) risk, and “insufficient evidence” (29.2%). Research in hospital settings was found as the main setting in the reviewed papers, which precisely indicated the risk of contaminated surfaces. This scoping review underscores the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection via contaminated surfaces assessed as low in the majority of the reviewed articles. Further evaluation of the risk of the virus transmission by fomites and providing adequate information on its infectivity via contaminated surfaces in real-life conditions is essential.

Objetivos: Identificar complicações/sequelas renais decorrentes da infecção por SARS-CoV-2 em pessoas com COVID-19; e descrever a característica de idade da população estudada. Metodologia: Scoping Review realizada nas bases de dados Web of Science, BVS, Cochrane Library, MEDLINE/PubMed, CINAHL, SCOPUS, Embase, LILACS. E nos sites online: ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, Grey Literature e Google Scholar. Os descritores utilizados foram (comorbidity OR sequel OR complications), (kidney diseases OR glomerular disease OR acute kidney injury OR nephropathy) AND (coronavirus OR SARS-CoV-2 OR COVID-19). Critérios de inclusão: artigos em português, inglês e espanhol, com abordagens metodológicas diversas, disponíveis na íntegra, online, publicados no período de 01 de janeiro de 2020 a 29 de setembro de 2021. E de exclusão: pessoas com diagnósticos prévios de patologias renais agudas e/ou crônicas; cartas ao editor; artigos de opinião; editoriais; e notas. Resultados: Selecionaram-se 10 artigos, que evidenciaram que o processo infeccioso causado pelo SARS-CoV-2 pode iniciar com uma leve proteinúria e hematúria, e evoluir para uma injúria renal aguda causada pela diminuição da capacidade de filtração glomerular, que favorece a retenção de algumas escórias nitrogenadas, causando o aumento dos níveis de creatinina e de ureia. Ademais, informaram que indivíduos entre 52-69 anos foram os mais acometidos. Considerações finais: As complicações/sequelas renais decorrentes da infecção por SARS-CoV-2 são: deposição de imunocomplexos nas células renais, proteinúria, hematúria, aumento da creatinina sérica, aumento da ureia nitrogenada no sangue, diminuição da TFG, e IRA estágio 1, 2 e 3. Tais complicações ocorreram principalmente em pessoas com idade ≥ 52 anos.

Objetivo: Este estudo tem como objetivo descrever o protocolo e a metodologia usados para realizar uma revisão de escopo que irá mapear as evidências científicas sobre a espiritualidade no contexto dos cuidados paliativos pediátricos. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma revisão de escopo que será desenvolvida conforme as recomendações do Instituto Joanna Briggs (JBI). Para a redação do estudo, será utilizado o PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). Uma pesquisa abrangente será realizada nas bases de dados Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, PubMed, CINAHL e EMBASE, além da busca de literatura cinzenta nas bases Google Scholar, ProQuest e OpenGrey, sem limitação quanto ao ano de publicação e idioma. Além disso, será realizada busca adicional de artigos por meio da leitura das referências dos estudos incluídos na revisão. Serão incluídos estudos primários e secundários que abordem a espiritualidade no contexto dos cuidados paliativos pediátricos, independentemente do tipo de delineamento. Serão excluídos documentos do tipo cartas, comentários, editoriais e artigos de opinião. A seleção dos estudos por meio da leitura dos títulos, resumos e texto completo será conduzida por dois revisores independentes. A extração de dados será realizada por meio de formulário construído pelos autores com base nas recomendações do JBI. Os dados serão organizados, resumidos e analisados quanto à extensão, natureza, distribuição e padrões recorrentes e os resultados serão comunicados narrativamente e por meio de mapas de rede. Considerações finais: Espera-se que os resultados provenientes da realização desta revisão de escopo possam contribuir para o fortalecimento da utilização do cuidado espiritual às crianças sob os cuidados paliativos, com o escopo de promover uma melhor qualidade de vida para ela e seus familiares. Adicionalmente, pretende-se por meio dessa pesquisa estimular os profissionais de saúde a atender essa dimensão durante o cuidado à crianças sob os cuidados paliativos, com vistas a proporcionar um cuidado humanizado e uma assistência espiritual de qualidade que possam ajudá-los na busca de um significado para a vida, no alívio de dores e que facilitem a lidar com a angústia e o medo que permeiam esse processo.

Question prompt lists (QPL) are an instrument to promote patient participation in medical encounters by providing a set of questions patients can use during consultations. QPL have predominantly been examined in oncology. Less is known about their use in other contexts. Therefore, we plan to conduct a scoping review to provide an overview of the fields of healthcare in which QPL have been developed and evaluated. MEDLINE/PUBMED, PSYCINFO, PSYNDEX, WEB OF SCIENCE, and CINAHL will be systematically searched. Primary studies from different healthcare contexts that address the following participants/target groups will be included: persons with an acute, chronic, or recurring health condition other than cancer; healthy persons in non-oncological primary preventive measures. There will be no restrictions in terms of study design, sample size, or outcomes. However, only published studies will be included. Studies that were published in English and German between 1990 and 2019 will be examined. Two independent reviewers will apply defined inclusion/exclusion criteria and determine study eligibility in the review process guided by the PRISMA statement.

BACKGROUND Self-harm is a growing issue, for which individuals do not often receive treatment. mHealth interventions are a possible solution to some of the barriers individual face when seeking support that have also been found to be effective in improving mental health. Reviews of mHealth interventions for self-harm thus far have had limiting exclusion criteria, so a broader scoping review will provide a more exhaustive understanding of mHealth interventions that have been developed for self-harm. OBJECTIVE This scoping review aimed to (1) identify the mHealth interventions that have been developed for self-harm, (2) understand the types and features of interventions that have been developed, (3) establish the evidence base for mHealth interventions for self-harm, and (4) determine what outcomes are typically used to assess the efficacy of interventions. METHODS A search was conducted using Embase, PubMed, PsycINFO, PsycEXTRA, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. Studies were included if it described an mHealth intervention that may have had a treatment effect on self-harm either directly or indirectly, and if it was available in English. There were no exclusion criteria based on study design. RESULTS A total of 36 papers were included in the review, that were mostly randomised control trials published within the last four years. The interventions were mostly smartphone applications or calling/texting services. They were generally shown to be effective and appealing, but very few were widely available for use. Outcomes typically focussed on a reduction of self-harm, as well as suicidality, mood, and the users’ experiences of the intervention. Samples were typically non-diverse, and there was limited variety in study designs or in measurements of self-harm recovery. CONCLUSIONS Effective and appealing mHealth interventions have been developed but are not widely available. Research could also benefit from greater diversity, as well as a broader and more nuanced understanding of recovery from self-harm.

IntroductionThe diabetes mellitus (DM) epidemic is a major public health concern globally, with the highest-burden in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a microvascular complication of diabetes, and if left untreated can lead to visual impairment and blindness. Epidemiological studies suggest that the incidence of sight-threatening DR is decreasing in high-income countries due to improved treatments and management of DM; however, these trends are not replicated in LMICs. In this paper, we outline a scoping review protocol that aims to identify which LMICs have included DR in their national DM, non-communicable disease or prevention of blindness plans. The scoping review also aims to assess gaps when implementing national DR screening programmes in LMICs.Methods and analysisThis scoping review will follow the Arksey and O’Malley (2005) methodology and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis extension for Scoping Review guidelines. A comprehensive search of peer-reviewed and grey literature will be conducted from October 1989 (St. Vincent Declaration) to February 2020. Studies will be identified from electronic databases; Medline, Embase and CENTRAL (Cochrane Library). To identify further relevant articles, a hand search will be conducted using the reference lists of included studies. Two reviewers will independently screen records for relevant data and disagreements about eligibility will be resolved through consensus or arbitration by a third reviewer. A quantitative analysis will be performed to highlight key findings and thematic analysis will be used to identify emerging themes and subthemes from included studies. The key themes will highlight countries progress in terms of national-level DR service planning and screening implementation.Ethics and disseminationNo ethical approval is required because the scoping review methodology aims to synthesise information from publicly available resources. The results will be disseminated through conference presentations and peer-reviewed publication.

Abstract Background Frailty is increasingly recognized as an important construct which has health implications for older adults. The Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) is a judgement-based frailty tool that evaluates specific domains including comorbidity, function, and cognition to generate a frailty score ranging from 1 (very fit) to 9 (terminally ill). The aim of this scoping review is to identify and document the nature and extent of research evidence related to the CFS. Methods We performed a comprehensive literature search to identify original studies that used the Clinical Frailty Scale. Medline OVID, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Cochrane Library and Embase were searched from January 2005 to March 2017. Articles were screened by two independent reviewers. Data extracted included publication date, setting, demographics, purpose of CFS assessment, and outcomes associated with CFS score. Results Our search yielded 1688 articles of which 183 studies were included. Overall, 62% of studies were conducted after 2015 and 63% of the studies measured the CFS in hospitalized patients. The association of the CFS with an outcome was examined 526 times; CFS was predictive in 74% of the cases. Mortality was the most common outcome examined with CFS being predictive 87% of the time. CFS was associated with comorbidity 73% of the time, complications 100%, length of stay 75%, falls 71%, cognition 94%, and function 91%. The CFS was associated with other frailty scores 94% of the time. Conclusions This scoping review revealed that the CFS has been widely used in multiple settings. The association of CFS score with clinical outcomes highlights its utility in the care of the aging population.

Abstract Background: Before the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, primary care relied on face-to-face consultations, with relatively limited use of telemedicine. The rapid uptake that occurred following the onset of the pandemic in countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada and New Zealand prompts questions around the drivers and extent of this transformation in clinical practice at global level. The purpose of this scoping review is to explore the global evidence surrounding the rapid adoption of telemedicine in primary care settings during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A draft protocol was tested through an initial search on Ovid Medline, Web of Science and Google Scholar with additional searches on the Cochrane Database. This informed the final selection of terms which will be use to search Ovid, Web of Science, Google Scholar, PROSPERO and Cochrane Library, filtering for studies from the pandemic declaration onwards. Additional grey literature reports will be sourced through simplified searches on appropriate search engines in widely spoken languages. Duplicates will be removed by screening titles. Abstracts and grey literature text extracts will be screened based on pre-set eligibility criteria by an automated tool and further screened by the lead researcher. Abstracts (and extracts in the case of grey literature) will be mapped against the domains of the Non-adoption, Abandonment, and challenges to Scale-up, Spread and Sustainability (NASSS) framework. Data will be presented in table format. Discussion: This review will map the current literature to identify current gaps in evidence related to the adoption of telemedicine after the declaration of the pandemic in March 2020. The use of simplified searches in the most spoken languages in the world is aimed at capturing more immediate non-academic reflections and experiences on this major service change at a global level.Systematic review registration: Study has been registered on Open Science Framework and can be accessed through the following URL: https://osf.io/4z5ut/

Additionally, the recent coronavirus pandemic urged the need to get connected for fast information transfer and exchange. As response, health programmes have -among other interventions- incorporated digital tools such as mobile phones for supporting the control and prevention of infectious diseases. However, little is known about the benefits of mobile phone technology in terms of input, process and outcome dimensions. The purpose of this scoping review is to analyse the evidence of the use of mobile phones as an intervention tool regarding the performance, acceptance, usability, feasibility, cost and effectiveness in dengue, Zika and chikungunya control programmes. Methods: We conducted a scoping review of studies and reports by systematically searching: i) electronic databases (PubMed, PLOS ONE, PLOS Neglected Tropical Disease, LILACS, WHOLIS, ScienceDirect and Google scholar), ii) grey literature, using Google web and iii) documents in the list of references of the selected papers. Selected studies were categorized using a pre-determined data extraction form. Finally, a narrative summary of the evidence related to general characteristics of available mobile health tools and outcomes was produced. Results: The systematic literature search identified 1289 records, 32 of which met the inclusion criteria. From the reference lists of included articles 4 records were identified coming to a total of 36 studies. The content analysis identified five mobile phone categories: mobile applications (n = 18), short message services (n=7), camera phone (n = 6), mobile phone tracking data (n = 4), and simple mobile communication (n = 1). These devices were used for surveillance, prevention and management. In general, mobile phone-based studies reported good performance, acceptance by users, usability in downloads as well as feasibility of mobile phone under real life conditions and effectiveness in terms of contributing to a reduction of vectors and disease. It can be concluded that there are great opportunities for using mobile phones in the fight against arboviral diseases as well as other epidemic diseases . Further studies particularly on acceptance, cost and effectiveness at scale are recommended.

Abstract Background: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) remain a significant public health concern worldwide mainly in developing countries. Adverse drug reactions due to multi-drugs regimen for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB) have negative implications such as toxicity, leading to poor compliance and interruption of medication before completion. Understanding the profile of ADRs is critical to establishing specific strategies for early detection, prevention and clinical management. The present study aims to map the existing literature on the determinants of adverse drug reactions due tuberculosis therapy in African countries. Methods and analysis: The scoping review will be guided by Arksey and O’Malley framework as well as recommendations by Levac et al., and Colquhoun et al. The search strategy will include searching electronic databases such as Cochrane library, PubMed, EBSCOhost (including Medline), ProQuest, Google scholar; CINAHL with Full Text and other sources such as World Health Organization (WHO) and governmental websites. Peer-reviewed literature and grey literature of primary and secondary studies with different study designs which addresses the main question will be included. Studies published within the period of 2000 to 2020 are eligible. The selection process will involve screening titles, abstracts, full texts. A standardized data charting form will be created in google forms to extract relevant information from the included studies. The NVIVO software version 12 will be used for thematic analysis of the studies to summarize the review findings. The quality of the included studies will be assessed using Mixed Method Appraisal Tool (MMAT) version 2018 and Authority Accuracy Coverage Objectivity Date Significance (AACODS) checklist (for grey literatures).Discussion: The study anticipates finding and mapping relevant research studies in African context on determinants of adverse drug reactions due to tuberculosis therapy. The synthesis of this evidence base will help to identify research gaps and will serve as guidance for future research studies on strengthening of the pharmacovigilance system of ADRs and its clinical management in Africa. The study findings will be disseminated through the traditional academic platforms, such as peer-reviewed publications and presentations at relevant local and international conferences, symposiums, and seminars.Systematic review registration: Prospero Registration Number: CRD42020203617.
