Feline leishmaniosis (FeL) is increasingly reported throughout the world and skin lesions predominate in the clinical picture. There are, however, few evidence-based data on cutaneous feline leishmaniosis and directions are strongly needed for a better management of the disease. In this study, we systematically reviewed what is currently known about the clinical dermatological presentation of FeL through analysis of the literature and, further, by adding unpublished cases managed by Italian veterinary dermatologists. Sixty-six feline cases of cutaneous leishmaniosis published in 33 articles between 1990 and 2020 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. Six unpublished cases of cutaneous FeL managed by Italian dermatologists were also reviewed. The majority of cases were reported from South America, followed by Europe and North America. Nodules were the most frequently reported clinical signs and the presence of Leishmania in lesioned skin was assessed mainly by cytology. A total of six Leishmania species have been identified as being responsible for skin lesions. Coinfections by FIV or FeLV were reported in 12.1% and 9.1% of the cases, respectively. Clinical data including treatment have been analyzed and discussed to provide directives for proper management of the disease for which cats may also serve as domestic reservoirs for human infections.

Objectives Leishmaniosis is a vector-borne disease and in European countries is caused by Leishmania infantum. Cats are considered secondary reservoirs of the infection in endemic areas. The objective of this retrospective study is to describe the clinical findings, diagnosis, treatment and outcome of feline leishmaniosis (FeL) in 16 cats in Spain. Methods Medical records of cats diagnosed with leishmaniosis were retrospectively reviewed for cases that met the following inclusion criteria: identification of Leishmania organisms and/or DNA on cytological and/or histological specimens and/or a high anti- Leishmania antibody titre, compatible clinical findings and pathological abnormalities. Results Sixteen cats met the inclusion criteria, all of which were living in areas endemic for canine leishmaniosis. Systemic signs were present in 11 cases (68.8%). The most common clinical signs on presentation included cutaneous lesions in 12 cats (75%), ocular disease in six cats (37.5%) and anorexia in six cats (37.5%). A polyclonal gammopathy was noted in 12 cats (85.7%). Non-regenerative anaemia and renal abnormalities were present in six (37.5%) and five patients (31.3%), respectively. In nine cats (56.3%), immunosuppressive conditions/comorbidities were identified. The diagnosis was made in eight of the cats (50%) by cytology, but a combination of diagnostic tests was needed for definitive diagnosis in the remaining patients. Twelve cats (75%) were treated specifically for leishmaniosis. Five of the 12 cats (41.7%) did not improve with treatment. The median survival time in the group of patients treated specifically for leishmaniosis was 17 months. Median survival of patients treated with concomitant diseases was 13 months vs 41 months in those without, although this was not statistically significant ( P = 0.557). Conclusions and relevance Presentation of FeL appears to be similar to canine leishmaniosis but with some specific features: ulcerative and nodular skin lesions are the predominant cutaneous signs; cats with immunosuppressive conditions or coexisting diseases were more commonly present than typically seen in dogs (mainly feline immunodeficiency virus). A combination of diagnostic tests may be needed for definitive diagnosis.

Pictorial symbols have multiple layers of meaning: not only do they represent objects, events and ideas about the world, they also represent the intentions of artists as well as other artist attributes (age, skill, originality and knowledge, mood, style and sentience). Although children’s developmental milestones of pictorial understanding have been the subject of a long-standing debate, their understanding of the relation between artists and pictures has often been neglected. The aim of this article was to conduct a systematic review on children’s and adolescents’ understanding of the relation between artists and pictures. PsycINFO and Web of Science databases were searched for English, Spanish, German, and Italian language empirical studies that examined this link in 2- to 18-year- olds. Forty-two citations (64 studies) from 14 different countries met the inclusion criteria. Results revealed the majority of the studies focused on the understanding of the artist’s intention. Although research on children’s and adolescents’ understanding of other attributes is scarce, and there were inconsistencies across the methodologies used, it seems that they first acknowledge intention and only later become more aware of how artist’s attributes are communicated through intention. The results of the review encourage subsequent research to provide a clearer conceptualised model of child and adolescent understanding of the artist-picture relationship. Such a model should be placed within a wider framework of the network of relationship between the artist, picture, world and beholder. Finally, consideration of how the development of understanding the artist-picture relationship is bi-directionally influenced with other developmental milestones in the child psychology is encouraged, particularly picture-production and theory of mind, and variations in atypical populations.

Objective: The purpose of this review is to collect and synthesize the information available about the strategies and recommendations established around the world, to guarantee the reopening of educational institutions, in a safe manner, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, it seeks to propose evidence-based recommendations, which allow the safe reopening of educational institutions in Colombia. Methods: A systematic review of the literature was carried out in databases such as Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science, as well as research in grey literature, social media, Google, and Google Scholar. In order to do this, a search equation was proposed, and subsequently, 19 articles were chosen, which met the determined inclusion criteria. Results: According to the analyzed literature, the recommendations come to light in order to guarantee a safe return. Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic, has caused an impact in all spheres of society, being the education, one of the most affected, because it has had a negative impact on the development of cognitive and social abilities, in particular, in the new generations, as a result of social distancing and the change of modality to remote and/or virtual education. For this reason, it is considered a priority the reopening educational institutions, in a safe manner, considering the evidence-based recommendations.

Abstract Background Opioids addiction and misuse are among the major problems in the world today. There have been several preliminary studies examining the effect of methadone on depression among addicts, however, these studies have reported inconsistent and even contradictory results. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to determine the effect of methadone on depression in addicts in Iran and around the world, using a meta-analysis approach. Methods This study was a systematic review and meta-analysis including articles published in the SID, MagIran, IranMedex, IranDoc, Cochrane, Embase, ScienceDirect, Scopus, PubMed and Web of Science databases were searched systematically to find articles published from 2006 to March 2019. Heterogeneity index was determined using the Cochran's test (Qc) and I2. Considering heterogeneity of studies, the random effects model was used to estimate the standardized difference of mean score for depression. Subsequently, the level of depression reduction in Iran and worldwide in the intervention group before and after the testwas measured. Results A total of 19 articles met the inclusion criteria, and were therefore selected for this systematic review and meta-analysis. The sample size of the intervention group in the selected studies was 1948. According to the meta-analysis results, the mean depression score in the intervention group was 26.4 ± 5.6 and 18.4 ± 2.6 before and after intervention respectively, indicating the reducing effect of methadone on depression, and this difference was statistically significant (P < 0.01). Conclusion The results of the present study show that methadone significantly reduces depression in addicts. Therefore, regular methadone use can be part of a drug treatment plan.

BackgroundThe Program in Evidence-Based Care (PEBC) of Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) has recently created an evidence-based consensus guideline on the systemic treatment of early breast cancer.  The evidence for this guideline was compiled using a systematic review to answer the question:  “What is the optimal systemic therapy for patients with early-stage, operable breast cancer, when patient and disease factors are considered?”  This question was addressed in three parts: cytotoxic chemotherapy, endocrine treatment, and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) directed therapy.MethodsA systematic review was performed using the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases for the period January 2008 to May 2014.  The SAGE Directory of Cancer Guidelines and websites of major oncology guideline organizations were also searched.  The basic search terms were “breast cancer” and “systemic therapy” (chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, targeted agents, ovarian suppression), and was limited to randomized controlled trials (RCTs), guidelines, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses. ResultsSeveral hundred documents were retrieved that met the inclusion criteria; the Early Breast Cancer Trialists Collaborative Group (EBCTCG) meta-analyses encompassed many of the RCTs found. Several additional studies which met the inclusion criteria were included, as well as other guidelines and systematic reviews.  Chemotherapy was largely reviewed as three classes of agents: anti-metabolite based regimens (e.g., CMF), anthracyclines, and taxane-based regimens. Single-agent chemotherapy in general is not recommended for the adjuvant treatment of breast cancer in any patient population.  Anthracycline and taxane-based polychemotherapy regimens are overall considered superior to earlier generation regimens, with the most significant impact on patient survival outcomes. Various regimens with disparate anthracycline and taxane doses and schedules are options; in general, paclitaxel given every 3 weeks is inferior. Evidence does not support the use of bevacizumab in the adjuvant setting; other systemic therapy agents such as metformin and vaccines remain under investigation. Adjuvant bisphosphonates for menopausal women will be discussed in later work.  ConclusionThe results of this systematic review represent a comprehensive compilation of high-level evidence which was the basis for the 2014 PEBC CCO guideline on systemic therapy for early breast cancer. The use of cytotoxic chemotherapy is presented here; the results addressing endocrine therapy and HER-2 targeted treatment, as well as the final clinical practice recommendations, are published separately in this issue.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE To present scientific evidence based on a systematic literature review (PRISMA) evaluating the association of Kawasaki Disease (DK) and COVID-19 in children. METHODS For the selection of studies, a combination based on the Medical Subject Heading Terms (MeSH) was used. The Medline (Pubmed), LILACS, SciELO, COCHRANE, and BIREME databases were used. The search period for the articles comprised the last 10 years (2010 to 2020). RESULTS 840 articles with potential for inclusion were retrieved, one of which met the inclusion criteria and the guiding question that consisted of evaluating the association of Kawasaki disease and COVID-19 in children. CONCLUSION A significant increase in the incidence of Kawasaki-type diseases after the onset of the epidemic has been reported, suggesting an association between the COVID-19 epidemic and the high incidence of a severe form of KD. However, further studies are needed to conduct an investigation of the association between these two diseases.

Background: Diabetes is referred to a group of diseases characterized by high glucose levels in blood. It is caused by a deficiency in the production or function of insulin or both, which can occur because of different reasons, resulting in protein and lipid metabolic disorders. The aim of this study was to systematically review the prevalence and incidence of type 1 diabetes in the world. Methods: A systematic search of resources was conducted to investigate the prevalence and incidence of type 1 diabetes in the world. The databases of Medline (via PubMed and Ovid),ProQuest, Scopus, and Web of Science from January 1980 to September 2019 were searched to locate English articles. The located articles were screened in multiple levels of title, abstract, and full-text and final studies that met the inclusion criteria were retrieved and included in the study. Results: From 1202 located articles, 193 studies were included in this systematic review. The results of meta-analysis showed that the incidence of type 1 diabetes was 15 per 100,000 people and the prevalence was 9.5% (95% CI: 0.07 to 0.12) in the world, which was statistically significant. Conclusion: According to the results, the incidence and prevalence of type 1 diabetes are increasing in the world. As a result, insulin will be difficult to access and afford, especially in underdeveloped and developing countries.

Abstract Previous systematic reviews have examined the efficacy of obesity prevention interventions within early childcare/education settings. Often lacking in these reviews is reporting on external validity, which continues to be underemphasized compared to internal validity. More attention to external validity would help better translate evidence-based interventions to real-world settings. This systematic review aimed to determine the availability of data on both internal and external validity across dimensions of the Reach, Efficacy/Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance (RE-AIM) framework in studies reporting on obesity prevention interventions in early childcare/education settings. Inclusion criteria included: randomized controlled trials, early childcare/education setting, targeted children 2–6 years old, addressed both diet and physical activity, collected measures of weight status and diet and/or physical activity, and published within the last 10 years. Searches were conducted in ERIC, PsychInfo, and PubMed; 23 studies met inclusion criteria. A validated RE-AIM abstraction tool was used to code studies. Most commonly reported dimensions were Reach (62.3%), Implementation (53.5%), and Efficacy/Effectiveness (48.7%). Adoption (21.7%) and Maintenance (11.6%) were less often reported. All studies reported on primary outcomes, but few reported on RE-AIM indicators of characteristics of participation and adoption, quality of life, methods used to identify staff, staff inclusion/exclusion criteria and adoption rates, implementation fidelity, measures of cost to start-up and deliver the intervention, and indicators of maintenance. This systematic review underscores the need for more focus on external validity to inform replication, dissemination, and implementation so that evidence-based early childcare/education obesity interventions can be generalized to real-world settings.

Abstract. CrossFit is training highly practiced by various athletes around the world, who prepare each year to be better and be selected to compete in the CrossFit Games. Currently very little known about the tests that assess muscle fatigue in athletes who practice this type of training. Muscle fatigue plays a fundamental role in the performance of athletes for their preparation and competition. The purpose of this study was to compare the different tests used to measure muscle fatigue in male CrossFit athletes. For them, a systematic search was carried out following the PRISMA guidelines, and the following inclusion criteria were included in the articles: original articles, CrossFit male athletes, and evaluation of muscle fatigue. Studies published in the last 10 years (from 2011 to March 31, 2021) the articles were not limited to a specific language, finding mostly English and Spanish. The main selection was by title, then by abstracting and reading the entire document in potential studies. Finally, five articles were found in which various tests were found to measure muscle fatigue in CrossFit athletes. In conclusion, given the wide variety of workouts (WOD) types of exercises and intensities in CrossFit, it is necessary to assess physical tests and biochemical markers.
