Exposure to cigarette smoke caused colour change to undyed cotton and silk fabrics by a yellowing effect. The degree of yellowing was more dominant on cotton fabric. When the dyed fabrics were subjected to cigarette smoke, a more pronounced effect was observed on the pale shade dyed fabrics. Shade alteration was inversely related to the colour strength of the dyed fabrics. In addition, a longer exposure time also induced colour change in the fabrics while the colour strength of the dyed fabrics was unaffected. Nicotine release from the cigarette smoke-exposed fabrics in the wet state was studied in different aqueous media, viz. water, buffer solutions (pH 5.5 and 8.0) and artificial sweats (acid and alkaline) in order to reflect the potential risk to textile users of the toxicants from textiles contaminated with cigarette smoke.

In this study, we analysed different resin finishing agents on cotton fabric dyed with reactive dye. Different tests were carried out on the resin treated fabric, such as the wrinkle recovery, tensile strength, dimensional stability, stiffness, abrasion resistance and colour strength (K/S) of the dyed fabrics. Melamine formaldehyde resin treated fabric gave a higher crease recovery angle, better smoothness and higher bending length because of higher crosslinking with cellulose. The colour strength decreased after applying the resin finish, and fastness properties were unaffected by the resin treatments.

Of late, dyeing fabrics with natural colorants have been the attention of the industry. Natural colorants especially from plants have the advantage of being friendly towards the environment as the extraction, processing and dyeing procedures are considered green and safe. However, most natural dyes have poor colourfastness and needed mordants to improve their dyeability. In this study, the addition of Entada spiralis was utilized as a surface modifier to improve dyeability on 100% silk fabrics using extracts from red cabbage. The plant serves as a surface-active agent to reduce the surface tension of the fabrics. The surfactant is also a natural resource and therefore is not harmful to the environment. The Entada spiralis was extracted through boiling for 30 minutes on a hot plate before treating the extracts on the fabrics. During dyeing, lime was used as the mordant simultaneously with dyeing. The dyed fabrics were evaluated for colorfastness to washing, rubbing/crocking and perspiration using the Gray Scale Standard. In addition, the dyed fabrics were also measured for their colour strength, colour coordinates and % reflectance. The results showed that dyed fabrics with Entada spiralis have darker shades in comparisons with the untreated fabric.

 Different types of radiations have been found to be widely applicable in modifying the properties of materials. In this work colour strength (K/S) and colour fastness of reactive dyed cotton fabric has been studied with the application of three radiations; microwave, ultraviolet and ultrasonic. Analysis of variance and comparison of mean values statistical tests were carried out to find out the effect of different radiation treatment time and fabric density on colour strength of cotton fabrics. The colour strength (K/S) of dyed fabric enhanced significantly by pretreatment with different radiations and highest shade depth is achieved in case of microwave in comparison to untreated ultrasonic and ultraviolet irradiated samples. Furthermore, irradiated samples have shown better colour fastness to washing in all three cases. Therefore these radiations can be used to enhance the colour properties of dyed fabrics.

Of late, research on natural dyes is increasing due to its eco-friendly and less hazardous nature towards humankind. This study focuses on the colour coordinates and colour strength of dyes from Chlorella Vulgaris sp extracted via Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE). The SFE optimum parameters for yield extracts were obtained through response surface methodology along with central composite design approach. Exhaustion dyeing with meta-chrome method was performed on silk fabrics for 60 minutes at 85oC. The dyed silk fabrics were measured and analysed for their colourimetric and fastness properties in accordance to MS ISO and AATCC standards, respectively. The colour shades on the dyed silk fabrics using alum mordant were light brown while for the iron mordant were dark brown. These shades were confirmed with the colour coordinates, L*a*b*, values of the fabrics. The colour strengths of the fabrics dyed with the iron mordant at 2% and 5% dyes were the highest in comparisons with other dyed fabrics. Overall, the colourfastness of the fabrics to washing were quite low but with very good colour staining ratings and fastness to perspiration, rubbing and light.

E-pH diagrams are usually built from thermodynamic databases available in the literature or from specific software. However, depending on the conditions and the chemical species defined for elaborating a diagram, it may present completely different immunity, passivation, and corrosion domains. In order to obtain a result closer to a real system, experimental E-pH diagrams can be built from polarization curves obtained in the evaluated conditions. This work discloses the construction of a diagram for the Nb-H<sub>2</sub>O system at 25°C from theoretical study and the specific selection of chemical species in the solutions through computer simulations. The polarization curves for the construction of the experimental diagram were gathered without the use of buffer solutions and under pH monitoring in the solution bulk throughout all assays. The methodology proposed was considered adequate since, from experimental data, a final result compatible with the classic diagram for the Nb-H<sub>2</sub>O system and the excellent corrosion resistance of niobium in aqueous media were achieved.

: The dyes are synthesized by 3-Amino-2-thioxo-4thiazolidinone (N-Amino rhodanine) with glutaraldehyde or Terephthalaldehyde by 2:1 mole to form a and b then coupled with diazonium salts p-Amino benzenesulfonic acid and 4-Amino 3,4 disulfoazobenzeneazobenzene by 2:1 to form new different bis monoazo a1, b1 and diazo a2 and b2 acid dyes. Therefore, the synthesized dyes were applied to both silk and wool fabric materials. We also evaluated the antimicrobial activity for these dyed fabrics against two model gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Further, the chemical composition of these dyes is emphasized by elemental analysis Aims: This paper aims to synthesize, apply dye and antimicrobial to four new acid dyes based on derivatives of N-Amino rodanine as a chromophoric group. These dyes are used in dyeing silk and wool with the good lightfastness and are also excellent for washing, rubbing, and sweating fastness. Also, we measure antimicrobial activity for silk and wool fabrics toward Gram-negative, Gram-positive. Background: The search for a synthesis of new acid dyes has antimicrobial for gram-negative and gram-positive. These dyes are mainly used on silk and wool fabrics which have excellent for light fastness, washing, rubbing, and sweating fastness. Objective: The present studies were aimed at synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial toward gram- negative and gram-positive. Methods: The infra-red spectrum was recorded using an Infra-red spectrometer, Perkin Elmer/1650 FT-IR. The 1H-NMR spectra were recorded using a Varian 400MHz spectrometer. The absorbance of the dyes was measured in the ultraviolet-visible region between 300 and 700 nm by a UNICAM UV spectrophotometer. The dye uptake by wool and silk fabrics was measured using a Shimadzu UV-2401PC (UV/V is spectrophotometer at λmax) before and after dyeing. The produced dyes were found to have good antimicrobial activity against a variety of bacteria. Results and Discussion: The compounds a1, b1, a2 &b2 shows good antimicrobial activity toward gram-negative (E. coli), gram-positive (S. aurous). The data showed that exhaustion and the fastness properties of silk and wool dyed fabrics were both very high. Conclusion: This work prepares newly synthesized acid dyes based on 3-Amino-2-thioxo-4thiazolidinone derivatives and uses them for dyeing wool and silk fabrics. Both synthetic dyes have good light fastness and fastness properties. Also, all dyes have a good antimicrobial effect.

ABSTRACT The kinetics and adsorption isotherms of the extremely slow traditional natural exhaust dyeing that takes many hours or days have been studied purposely to find means of improving the process. The dyeing of cotton and silk fabrics using dye extract of M. lucida at 50 °C were elucidated with graphs to predict the reaction orders and identify the appropriate adsorption isotherm model(s). Since the dye is UV active, changes in UV absorbance were used in place of changes in concentrations. The simultaneous and post mordanting methods followed pseudo-second-order reactions, hence chemisorption. However, mordant application to the dyed fabrics during post mordant followed a pseudo-first-order model, largely physisorption. Dyeing has followed Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models with linear correlation r2 ranging between 1 and 0.998. From the Freundlich model and values of Langmuir constant RL (0.9307 to 1.0), the process is homogeneous, forming a favourable and linear monolayer. Accordingly, the dyeing speed can be improved by increasing the concentration of dye liquor. Additionally, according to the Freundlich model, higher dye intensity on fabrics is recorded in post mordanting. Keywords: adsorption isotherms, equilibrium, exhaust dyeing, mordant, rate law

In the face of a growing human population and increased urbanization, the demand for pesticides will simply rise. Farmers must escalate yields on increasingly fewer farm acres. However, the risks of pesticides, whether real or perceived, may force changes in the way these chemicals are used. Scientists are working toward pest control plans that are environmentally sound, effective, and profitable. In this context the development of new pesticide formulations which may improve application effectiveness, safety, handling, and storage can be pointed out as a solution. As a contribution to the area, the microencapsulation of the herbicide oxadiargyl (OXA) in (2-hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) was performed. The study was conducted in different aqueous media (ultrapure water and in different pH buffer solutions). In all cases an increment of the oxadiargyl solubility as a function of the HP-β-CD concentration that has been related to the formation of an inclusion complex was verified. UV-Vis and NMR experiments allowed concluding that the stoichiometry of the OXA/HP-β-CD complex formed is 1 : 1. The gathered results can be regarded as an important step for its removal from industrial effluents and/or to increase the stabilizing action, encapsulation, and adsorption in water treatment plants.

The dyeing and fastness properties of silk fabric dyed with natural dye extraction from the bark of Garcinia Dulcis (Roxb.) Kurz by the pad-batch process was studied. The effect of dyes at different mordant concentration levels on their colour strength was also investigated. Silk fabrics dyed with Garcinia Dulcis (Roxb.) Kurz bark extract showed a pale yellow shade, while those dyed with alum and stannous chloride bright yellow and light yellow colour, respectively. Silk substrates dyed with CuSO4 gave a yellowish green colour, while those dyed with FeSO4 had a dark brown colour. The fastness properties showed fair to good rating, whereas the colour fastness to perspiration was at a poor level.
