Significant events of the past have always been the most important aspects in the structuring of national memory. Obviously, they also become key elements in the formation of identity. Therefore, the use of various falsifications, distortions of history, and manipulations in this area seems to be quite logical in the framework of the ongoing information war. The devaluation and depersonalization of the Great Patriotic War memory, of the irreplaceable losses and sacrifices of the Soviet people, of exploits in the name of the Motherland and in the name of victory over fascism have crushing power, destroy the integration potential of the Soviet past, have a destructive effect on the formation of an identity that should be associated with the correct interpretation of the heroic role of the Soviet people. Pride in the past of one's country contributes to the formation of civic consciousness and a positive awareness of one's belonging. The roots of this perception are in the stories of eyewitnesses of those events, which are becoming less and less every year, in the process of socialization, in school history textbooks. In conditions of freedom of choice, with an ever-increasing virtual component of life, in which there are opportunities for the individual to immerse themselves in the format of a completely different socio-cultural space, with a different system of values and meanings, the global elite imposes new standards and determines the field of choice for modern youth. At the same time, our educational task is the preservation and reproduction of memory for future generations.

In this chapter, the authors create a theoretical model to analyze the challenges inherent in the implementation of moral choices in single-player avatar-based video game. Based on previous research in moral psychology and game studies, the authors investigate the relationship between the player’s moral emotions and the events she causes to happen in the fictional world of a video game. The authors find that there are two factors that govern the identification with the moral content of the game’s fiction: the implementation of moral agency into the game, of which they identify two basic scenarios (fixed justice and accumulation of deeds), and the style of gameplay the player chooses to follow. The authors give numerous examples from interviews, on-line discussions and gaming press of instances when players feel moral emotions about im(moral) actions they have taken in a video game.

---------- The diagnosis of death in humans has anthropological, medical, religious, legal and cultural dimensions. Nevertheless, it falls to clinicians to establish the criteria for death of the individual, and to determine the time at which death occurred. Donation of organs for transplantation from deceased persons should be done as soon as possible, in order to preserve organ viability. The criteria for establishing death based on neurological aspects originated in parallel with the development of transplantology. The growing demand for organs for transplantation has given way to the establishment of death based on cardiocirculatory criteria. In relation thereto, we review the clinical aspects of the time that must elapse from the beginning of circulatory arrest until the definitive establishment of death (which presently varies greatly among different countries). We also examine the ethical aspects that might be entailed in the fact that said patients will be organ donors, and the potential effect that this might have on management of patients before their death. We make an assessment of the doctrine of the Catholic Church, not only with respect to organ donation for transplantation, but to aspects that dignity in the process of dying must encompass.

SummaryLike many phenomena which are located at the intersection between different disciplines, the complexity of alcoholism is difficult to comprehend, especially at an experimental level. In particular, pharmacological approaches towards alcoholism have emphasized the anxiety- and stress-reducing properties of ethanol, in spite of the limited clinical support for this hypothesis. In the same manner, the phenomenon of behavioral tolerance has mainly been approached from a pharmacological perspective, with little or no interest paid to the sensory stimuli possibly involved in the conditioning of drug effects. Comparative studies in animals selected for alcohol intake have concentrated on the biological responses to alcohol and have not investigated the possibility of genetic differences in sensitivity to environmental stimuli. Based on recent progress in the elucidation of the individual and environmental factors which play a key role in the development and stabilization of abnormal behavior in conflict situations, it is proposed that alcoholism is the result of a predisposition to react in a certain manner to environmental stimuli and social influences which is strengthened by the pharmacological effects of ethanol. The manner in which this hypothesis can be put to test has been discussed.

Abuse of hormones by sportsmen or sportswomen might lead to some serious health consequences for the individual user. Such abuse also damages the very spirit of sport, cheating fellow athletes, the officials and spectators. Where hormone findings cause most controversy is with endogenously produced substances. Some hormone findings might be indicators of a medical condition, and it requires sensitive handling to discover the facts. Examining the prevalence of hormone abuse using a theoretical perspective on ethics permits a philosophical study of the dilemmas facing sport, and a clearer identification of the issues that science can help sport to resolve. This paper looks at the way in which rules on doping have evolved in an attempt to set out the ethical standards that should apply and to discuss how some sportsmen and sportswomen have worked around the rules, challenging them to the extent that the anti-doping system itself is questioned. The data emerging from the testing programmes give one guide to the actual prevalence of hormone findings. However, as not all findings may constitute doping offences this cannot be said to be the definitive guide to the extent of hormone abuse. Use of hormone medications with or without a therapeutical indication further complicates the disciplinary process. Sensitive management of hormone findings is absolutely necessary to avoid accusations of doping or embarrassing breaches of confidentiality when the origin may be a serious medical condition. Because hormone findings require careful consideration, the door is open for the anti-doping system to be exploited by unscrupulous scientists, raising challenges that test the limits of credibility. Sex, alcohol and decomposition are arguments that have been put forward to explain findings. A close partnership between scientists and sport is called for to avoid the athlete becoming a victim of the rules that are intended to protect sport.
