Abstract: Flowers and leaves of jasmine (Jasminum sambac) have chemical substances that contain phytoconstituents such as alkaloids, glycosides, saponins, terpenoids and flavonoids. Flavonoid, an antioxidant, plays some importnat roles in wound healing due to their antibacterial effect. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of jasmine leaf extract on incision wound healing in rabbits. This was an experimental study using three rabbits as test subjects. Wounds of 0.3 cm depth, 5 cm length, and 0.5 cm widened at both ends of the wound were made on the right and left sides of the back. Incised wound on the left side was treated with jasmine leaf extract ointment meanwhile the wound on the right side was untreated and was covered only with sterile gauze. Wounds were observed for two weeks to evaluate the changes of macroscopical length. The results showed that wounds treated with jasmine leaf extract ointment shrank and their edges united with the surrounding tissues faster than the untreated wounds. Conclusion: Jasmine leaf extract ointment accelerated incised wound healing in rabbits. Keywords : wound healing, incision wounds, jasmine leaves Abstrak: Bunga dan daun melati (Jasminum sambac) memiliki kandungan kimia yang berpotensi farmakologi seperti alkaloid, glycosid, saponin, terpenoid dan flavonoid. Chronic wounds are still problem is one of the most frequent among the community. Pressure ulcers (decubitus) are examples of types of chronic wounds in which the maintenance costs of the injury fairly expensive. The use of plants is an appropriate alternative for the treatment of decubitus chronic wounds. One among the many plants that are known efficacious drugs for the health of Aloe vera. With the various components contained therein, aloe vera is known to affect the decubitus chronic wound healing. This study is purely experimental posttest-only design approach. The sample uses a white rats strain wistar female, weight 150-250 gr and 2,5 to 3 months of age. The variable is the concentration of the extract of Aloe vera and scores healing pressure ulcers (decubitus) degree II in white rats. The data obtained using observation, then analyzed with the assumption test (Lilliefors test and the Barlett test), one way Anova test and different test real distance of Duncan with significansy values of 0,05. The results indicate that there is the influence of various concentrations of leaf extract of Aloe vera to diameter decubitus chronic wound healing in rats and the concentration of leaf extract of Aloe vera 100% to give a good effect on the diameter of decubitus chronic wound healing on white rats (á 0.05).

Background: Blood clotting is a process which prevents blood loss during injuries. Blood clots even when it is coming out from the blood vessels. Aloe vera is a perennial plant found all over India. It is commonly used in traditional system of medicine for treatment of wound healing, mouth ulcers, constipation, skin wrinkles and diabetes mellitus It is also used as antioxidant and antimicrobial agent. As it is used in traditional system of medicine for wound healing, this study was under taken to test the possible haemostatic effect of aloe vera. Methods: 12 rats were divided into two groups (control and test) with 6 rats in each group. Determination of Bleeding Time (BT), rat tail was warmed for one minute in water at 40˚C and then dried. A small cut was made in the middle of the tail with a scalpel. In test group, a drop of aloe vera leaf extract was applied on the injured area immediately after making the cut in the middle of the tail, where as in the control group nothing was applied, and BT estimated. Determination of Clotting Time (CT), 12 test tubes were arranged in water bath at 37˚C. Control Group: 0.4 ml of blood was collected from each rat in the control group and added to 6 test tubes kept in the water bath. Test group: For the remaining 6 test tubes 0.1 ml of aloe vera leaf extract was added. 0.4 ml of blood collected from the test group was added to these test tubes. The CT was estimated for both control group and test group. Results: The results were statistically analyzed by using unpaired t-test. The reduction in BT and CT for test group was statistically highly significant (p<0.001) compared to control group. Conclusions: In this study aloe vera leaf extract significantly reduced both BT and CT in the test group.
