The industry is the current engine of the Indonesian economy over the past three decades; the economic structure in Indonesia has the transformation from the agriculture sector to the industry sector. The objective of this study is to examine the causality between agricultural, industry, and economic growth in Indonesia. By using the vector error correction model (VECM), this research finds that in the long-term, there is directional causality from the industry added value, economic growth on the agricultural added value. Meanwhile, in the short-term, the variable of industry added value and economic growth has the two-way causality. Besides, the agricultural added value can only affect the industrial added value and economic growth in the short-term. These findings support the idea that the agricultural sector plays a vital role in the economy, such as increasing economic growth and growth in other sectors, especially the industrial sector in this case.JEL Classification: F40, L60, O13, O47

Purpose – This paper aims to establish the level (if any) of Chinese State influence on setting the terms of Foreign Direct Investment in Zambia, specifically their influence on improving access for Chinese investors through the establishment of Special Economic Zones. Design/methodology/approach – The paper presents a process trace to test primary archival data and elite interviews against growing academic and popular “China in Africa” literature. Findings – After examining primary data, existing academic and popular literature is found to poorly describe China’s economic influence in Zambia, primarily by largely speculating on non-evident coercive investment practices. Instead, the paper concludes that similarities between new Chinese investment and retreating Western sources in Africa can better be described as “Sino-Substitution”. Research limitations/implications – The primary research has focused on English language Zambian sources; access to further Chinese sources would improve the breadth of the study. Practical implications – The study has found the terms of new Chinese investment in Zambia to be far more calculated, consensual and symbiotic than described in the existing literature. This more balanced view of Chinese investment is important if other foreign investors are to retain or regain competitive advantage in the region. Originality/value – No existing research has traced empirically the process through which the Zambian Government developed Special Economic Zones into the country’s largest investment vehicle, or how Chinese investment came to dominant capital flows within them. As investment in these zones grows, a better understanding of the Zambia–China relationship should help other investors compete, and improve Zambia’s access to capital.

This study designs to assess and infer the effect of Special Economic Zones under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor on the economic growth of Pakistan through technological spillovers and the absorption capacity of domestic laborers. The present study develops a theoretical model and an empirical panel model to test whether the intervention of Special Economic Zones in the Asian developing countries has affected their economic growth through domestic Human Capital. For relevant results, we have employed the GMM model for the panel data set. The results indicate that the technological enhancement accumulates the economy through various other selected indicators rather than domestic labor productivity. The human capital remains inconsequent in this nexus. This condition gives us guidelines to follow pro-human capital policies to accumulate domestic human capital before the intervention from the foreign firms on our soil. Subsequently, much waited for dynamic or long-run benefits in terms of human capital can be attained rather than static effects.JEL Classification: C23, D24, J24How to Cite:Waqar, S., Badshah, I., Bandeali, M. In recent years, Russia has made considerable advances in the production and export of grain. Grain production, primarily wheat, is the driver of the country’s economic growth. At the same time, wheat grain has a multipurpose use, it is a valuable multifunctional primary product for obtaining a wide range of production with high added value, consumed by many economic sectors. A paradoxical situation has developed: Russia is the world’s largest exporter of grain – primary product, and is acutely dependent on imported products of its processing. Therefore, the outlook for the wheat grain production development is associated with the expansion of production of wheat grain processing products, with its advanced processing and export of products with high added value. The development of advanced grain processing will increase the profitability as of agribusiness, the processing industry in general, as of exporters.
