ABSTRACT Endophytic fungi are fungi that live in plant tissues and do not harm these plants. Endophytic fungi can produce compounds that have the potential as antibacterial. This study aimed to examine the antibacterial effects of endophytic fungi isolated from the lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. Lemongrass is used to inhibit or kill pathogenic bacteria because it contains essential oils that function as an antifungal and antibacterial against several pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The laboratory experiment method tested the antibacterial activity of endophytic fungi isolates obtained from lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli using hole / well method. From the results of the study, four endophytic fungi were isolated from the roots and leaves of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus). Antibacterial results showed that endophytic fungi extract isolated from lemongrass plants was more effective in inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus compared to Escherichia coli bacteria. In Staphylococcus aureus bacteria the average inhibitory value is 5-9 mm while in Escherichia coli bacteria the average inhibitory value is only 3 mm. Endophytic fungi from lemongrass roots have a better antibacterial effect compared to endophytic fungi from lemongrass leaves. Conclusion, endophytic fungi isolated from the roots and leaves of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) have an antibacterial effect on the growth of S. aureus bacteria and are not effective against E. coli bacteria. Jamur endofit dapat menghasilkan senyawa yang berpotensi sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji efek antibakteri jamur endofit yang diisolasi dari akar,batang dan daun tumbuhan sereh (Cymbopogon citratus)  terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Sereh digunakan untuk menghambat atau membunuh bakteri patogen karena mengandung minyak atsiri yang berfungsi sebagai antijamur dan antibakteri terhadap beberapa bakteri patogen seperti Staphylococcus aureus dan  Escherichia coli.  Metode penelitian secara eksperimen laboratorium menguji aktivitas antibakteri dari isolat jamur endofit  yang diperoleh dari tumbuhan sereh (Cymbopogon citratus) pada bakteri Staphylococcus Aureus dan Escherichia Coli menggunakan metode lubang/sumuran. Dari hasil penelitan diperoleh empat jenis jamur endofit yang diisolasi dari akar dan daun  tumbuhan sereh (Cymbopogon citratus).  Hasil penelitian antibakteri menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak jamur endofit yang diisolasi dari tumbuhan sereh lebih efektif menghambat  bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dibandingkan dengan bakteri Escherichia coli. Pada bakteri  Staphylococcus aureus nilai rata-rata daya hambat yaitu 5-9 mm sedangkan pada bakteri Escherichia coli nilai rata-rata daya hambat yaitu hanya 3 mm. Jamur endofit dari akar sereh memiliki efek antibakteri yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan jamur endofit dari daun sereh. Kesimpulan, Jamur endofit yang diisolasi dari akar  dan daun sereh (Cymbopogon citratus) memiliki efek antibakteri terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri S. aureus dan tidak efektiv terhadap bakteri E. coli. Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the antibacterial effect of endophytic fungi originated from the root of mangrove Rhizophora stylosa growing on Mangrove Plantation Area around DAS Simpang 5 Jl. Piere Tendean Manado. The method of this research was using combination of PDA and NA media. Two species of endophytic fungi were extracted from the root of R. stylosa, black mycelium fungi as isolate A and brown mycelium fungi as isolate B. The activities of both isolates were tested against pathogenic bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The result showed the same inhibition zone of isolate A and B to S. aureus, while, isolate A showed bigger the inhibition zone in comparison to isolate B against E. coli. As a conclusion, the endophytic fungi taken from the root of R. stylosa have antibacterial activity toward S. aureus and E. coli. Keywords: endophytic fungi, Rhizophora stylosa, antibacterial, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli.   Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat adanya efek antibakteri dari jamur endofit yang diambil dari akar bakau Rhizophora stylosa yang ditanam di sekitar Perairan Daerah Aliran Sungai Simpang Lima Jl. Piere Tendean Manado. Metode penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan kombinasi media Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) dan Nutrient Agar (NA). Dari akar bakau R. stylosa diperoleh dua  jenis jamur endofit yaitu isolat A dengan karateristik miselium jamur berwarna hitam dan isolat B yang dengan karakteristik miselium berwarna coklat. Kedua isolat ini selanjutnya diujikan aktivitasnya terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan isolat A dan B memberikan  zona hambat yang sama terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan pada bakteri Escherichia coli isolat A menunjukkan diameter zona hambat yang lebih besar dibandingkan isolat B. Kesimpulan, Jamur endofit yang diisolasi dari akar bakau R. Stylosa memiliki efek antibakteri terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri S. aureus dan E. coli. Kata kunci: jamur endofit, Rhizophopra stylosa, antibakteri, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli.

This study aims to examine the antibacterial activity of endophytic fungi isolated from the leaves and stems of the cat's whiskers plant (Orthosiphon aristatus) against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Cat's whiskers contain essential oils which are used as antibacterial against some pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The method used is experimentally in the laboratory to test the antibacterial activity of endophytic fungi isolates derived from cat's whiskers (Orthosiphon aristatus) on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria using the hole / well method. In the research results obtained four samples of endophytic fungi extract isolated from the leaves and stems of the cat's whiskers plant (Orthosiphon aristatus) . The results of antibacterial research showed that endophytic mushroom extract isolated from cat's whiskers were more effective in inhibiting Escherichia coli bacteria compared to Staphylococcus aureus. In Escherichia coli bacteria the average value of inhibition is 5 mm whereas in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria the average value of inhibition is only 2 mm. So it can be seen that the endophytic fungus from the leaves of cat's whiskers has a better antibacterial effect than the endophytic fungus from the stems of the cat's whiskets. Pada hasil penelitan didapatkan empat sampel ekstrak jamur endofit yang diisolasi dari daun dan batang  tumbuhan kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus). Hasil penelitian antibakteri menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak jamur endofit yang diisolasi dari tumbuhan kumis kucing lebih efektif menghambat  bakteri Escherichia coli dibandingkan dengan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Pada bakteri  Escherichia coli nilai rata-rata daya hambat yaitu 5 mm sedangkan pada bakteri Staphylococcus aureus nilai rata-rata daya hambat yaitu hanya 2 mm. Sehingga dapat diketahui bahwa jamur endofit dari daun kumis kucing memiliki efek antibakteri yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan jamur endofit dari batang kumis kucing. Background: [1, 3, 4]oxadiazolenone core containing chalcones and nucleosides were synthesized by Claisen-Schmidt condensation of a variety of benzaldehyde derivatives, obtained from oxidation of substituted 5-(3/6 substituted-4-Methylphenyl)-1, 3, 4-oxadiazole-2(3H)-one and various substituted acetophenone. The resultant chalcones were coupled with penta-O-acetylglucopyranose followed by deacetylation to get [1, 3, 4] oxadiazolenone core containing chalcones and nucleosides. Various analytical techniques viz IR, NMR, LC-MS and elemental analysis were used to confirm the structure of the synthesised compounds.The compounds were targeted against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli for antibacterial activity and Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger and Fusarium oxysporum for antifungal activity. Methods: A mixture of Acid hydrazides (3.0 mmol) and N, Nʹ- carbonyl diimidazole (3.3 mmol) in 15 mL of dioxane was refluxed to afford substituted [1, 3, 4]-oxadiazole-2(3H)-one. The resulted [1, 3, 4]- oxadiazole-2(3H)-one (1.42 mmol) was oxidized with Chromyl chloride (1.5 mL) in 20 mL of carbon tetra chloride and condensed with acetophenones (1.42 mmol) to get chalcones 4. The equimolar ratio of obtained chalcones 4 and β -D-1,2,3,4,6- penta-O-acetylglucopyranose in presence of iodine was refluxed to get nucleosides 5. The [1, 3, 4] oxadiazolenone core containing chalcones 4 and nucleosides 5 were tested to determined minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value with the experimental procedure of Benson using disc-diffusion method. All compounds were tested at concentration of 5 mg/mL, 2.5 mg/mL, 1.25 mg/mL, 0.62 mg/mL, 0.31 mg/mL and 0.15 mg/mL for antifungal activity against three strains of pathogenic fungi Aspergillus flavus (A. flavus), Aspergillus niger (A. niger) and Fusarium oxysporum (F. oxysporum) and for antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacterium: Escherichia coli (E. coli), and two Gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Bacillus subtilis(B. subtilis). Result: The chalcones 4 and nucleosides 5 were screened for antibacterial activity against E. coli, S. aureus and B. subtilis whereas antifungal activity against A. flavus, A. niger and F. oxysporum. Compounds 4a-t showed good antibacterial activity whereas compounds 5a-t containing glucose moiety showed better activity against fungi. The glucose moiety of compounds 5 helps to enter into the cell wall of fungi and control the cell growth. Conclusion: Chalcones 4 and nucleosides 5 incorporating [1, 3, 4] oxadiazolenone core were synthesized and characterized by various spectral techniques and elemental analysis. These compounds were evaluated for their antifungal activity against three fungi; viz. A. flavus, A. niger and F. oxysporum. In addition to this, synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial activity against gram negative bacteria E. Coli and gram positive bacteria S. aureus, B. subtilis. Compounds 4a-t showed good antibacterial activity whereas 5a-t showed better activity against fungi.

ABSTRACTSponges are one of the biota components that make up coral reefs which are quite widely distributed. The metabolite content in the sponge can ward off and inhibit the pathogenic bacteria that interfere with it. This study aims to determine the activity of inhibiting bacterial growth from the extract and fraction of Leucetta chagosensis sponge against the growth of Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative Escherichia coli bacteria. The samples were extracted using the maceration method with 95% ethanol solvent and then fractionated using 3 solvents with different polarity levels, namely methanol, n-hexane and chloroform. Activity test using the disk diffusion agar method of Kirby and Bauer. Only the MeOH fraction was able to inhibit the growth of E. coli bacteria with an average inhibition zone of 6.88 mm. Whereas for S.aureus bacteria extracts and all fractions showed activity to inhibit bacterial growth with an average inhibition zone of EtOH (6.61 mm), CHCI3 (6.68 mm), n-hexane (7.83 mm) and MeOH (8.00 mm), respectively. Kandungan metabolit yang ada di dalam spons dapat menangkal dan menghambat bakteri patogen pengganggunya.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat aktivitas menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri dari ekstrak dan fraksi spons Leucetta chagosensis. terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Gram positif Staphylococcus aureus dan Gram negatif Escherichia coli. Sampel di ekstraksi menggunakan metode maserasi dengan pelarut etanol 95% lalu di fraksinasi dengan menggunakan 3 pelarut dengan tingkat kepolaran yang berbeda yaitu metanol, n-heksan dan kloroform. Uji aktivitas menggunakan metode disk diffusion agar Kirby dan Bauer.  Hanya fraksi MeOH yang mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri E.coli dengan zona hambat rata-rata 6,88 mm. Sedangkan terhadap bakteri S.aureus ekstrak dan semua fraksi menunjukan aktifitas menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri dengan rata-rata zona hambat masing-masing EtOH (6,61 mm), CHCl3 (6,68 mm), n-Heksan (7,83 mm), dan MeOH (8,00 mm). The sponge is one of the sea organisms that has a prospect as a source of natural compounds including peptides, steroids, asetogenin, terpenoids, alkaloids, cyclic halide and nitrogen. This research was directed to obtain several species of sponges from the waters of Tasik Ria as well as testing the antibacterial activity of extracts from some of the sponge against the bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. From the identification, seven species of sponges were found, which consists of: Amphimedon sp., Axinosa sp., Aaptos sp., Theonella sp., Cribochalina sp., Hyrtios sp., and Lendenfeldia sp. The tests of antibacterial activity of the extracts from these sponges against test bacteria E. coli and S. aureus showed some positive results. Extract from Axinosa sp. sponge(16 mm) showed the strongest antibacterial activity on Escherichia coli bacteria. Followed by Hyrtios sp. extract (13.5 mm), Aaptos sp. extract (13 mm), Lendenfeldia sp. extract (13 mm) and Cribochalinai sp. extract(10.5 mm). While the the tests on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria showed that the strongest antibacterial activity was found from Axinosa sp. sponge extract (16.5 mm), followed by the extract from Aaptos sp. (15 mm), Lendenfeldia sp. extract (14.5 mm), Hyrtios sp. extract(13.5 mm) and Cribochalina sp. extract (11 mm).Keywords: Sponge, antibacterial, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus ABSTRAK Spons merupakan salah satu biota laut yang sangat prospektif sebagai sumber senyawa bahan-bahan alami antara lain peptide, terpenoid, steroid, asetogenin, alkaloid, halide siklik dan senyawa nitrogen. Penelitian ini diarahkan untuk mendapatkan beberapa spesies spons dari perairan Tasik Ria serta menguji aktivitas antibakteri dari beberapa ekstrak spons terhadap bakteri Escherichia coli dan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Hasil identifikasi spons ditemukan sebanyak tujuh spesies yang terdiri dari: Amphimedon sp., Axinosa sp., Aaptos sp., Theonella sp., Hyrtios sp., Cribochalina sp. dan Lendenfeldia sp.. Aktivitas antibakteri dari beberapa ekstrak spons terhadap bakteri uji E. coli dan S. aureus terdapat diameter zona hambat bervariasi yaitu bakteri Escherichia coli menunjukkan aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak spons terkuat pada spons Axinosa sp (16 mm), disusul ekstrak spons Hyrtios sp. (13,5 mm), ekstrak spons Aaptos sp. (13 mm), ekstrak spons Lendenfeldia sp. (13 mm) dan ekstrak spons Cribochalinai sp. (10,5 mm).  Sedangkan pada bakteri Staphylococcus aureus menunjukkan aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak spons terkuat yaitu:  ekstrak spons Axinosa sp. (16,5 mm), disusul ekstrak spons Aaptos sp. (15 mm), ekstrak spons Lendenfeldia sp. (14,5 mm), ekstrak spons Hyrtios sp. Objective: This research aims to analyze the ability of robusta coffee leaves fraction extract to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and also determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Methods: Antibacterial activity evaluated by the disc diffusion method observed in four types of fraction of extract robusta coffee leaves (n-hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol, and water). Each extract divided into three various concentrations, 5%, 10%, and 15%. Determination of antimicrobial activity in vitro by the disk diffusion method. Results: Ethyl acetate fraction of coffee leaves extract produced the largest diameter zone of inhibition of bacterial growth compared to other extraction fractions of 17.28 mm in E. coli and 18.58 mm in S. aureus. The MIC of coffee leaves extract fraction water, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane on E. coli and S. aureus is 5%, while the fraction ethanol MIC is 10%. Conclusion: The antibacterial effect of ethyl acetate fraction of coffee leaves extract showed an antibacterial effect that was better than the fraction of n-hexane, ethanol, and water.

Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli are pathogenic bacteria agent of many human diseases. Those bacteria infect in various levels and also been antibiotic resistants. Bacterial resistance has become a serious global problem. The purposes of this study were to isolate and identify the symbiotic bacteria of the Sea Urchin that have an antibacterial activity of the Strain Multi-Drug Resistant (MDR) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Sea Urchin was taken from Panjang island, Jepara Indonesia at 2-3 m depth. The symbiotic bacteria were isolated from Sea Urchin by using dilution method and spread plate method. Phenotypic characteristics was observed on colony shape, color and texture of growing bacteria. While the streak method was used to purify bacterial symbion. The antibacterial activity test was performed using overlay method. The results showed that 3 out of 37 isolates have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The BB.03.35 isolate was selected for molecular identification due to the largest inhibitory zone diameter. The sequence of this bacterium showed 97% homology and closely related to Pseudoalteromonas flavipulchra.

Цель исследования - изучение антибактериальной активности гранулированных углеродных сорбентов по отношению к патогенной микрофлоре в условиях различной продолжительности контакта с сорбентом. Методика. Исследовали антибактериальные свойства гранулированного сорбента ВНИИТУ-1, обработанного гидромеханически, окисленного и стабилизированного до нормативных значений рН и модифицированного поли-N-винилпирролидоном (ПВП) ВНИИТУ-1 по отношению к патогенным микроорганизмам: Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus agalactiae, а также к их смесям. Все микроорганизмы представляли собой клинические штаммы, выделенные из ран пациентов. Предварительно тест-микроорганизмы были исследованы на чувствительность к современным антибиотикам. Опытным путем подбирали такие разведения и количество засеваемого материала, чтобы выросшие на чашке Петри колонии можно было сосчитать. Бактерии сорбировали из физиологического раствора с концентрацией микробных клеток 3 х 10 колониеобразующих единиц в 1 мл исследуемой пробы (КОЕ/мл). В пробирку типа Эппендорф вносили сорбент в количестве 0,5 мл, добавляли 1 мл микробной взвеси, встряхивали для удаления пузырьков воздуха и выдерживали в термостате в течение 1, 3, 6 и 24 ч. По истечении заданного времени контакта сорбента с патогенной микрофлорой отбирали надосадочную жидкость в объеме 100 мкл, засевали на стерильные агаровые пластины чашек Петри с питательной средой ГМФ-агар. Засеянные чашки Петри помещали в СО-инкубатор 15АС (Япония) вверх дном и инкубировали при температуре 37 ± 1°С в течение 24 ± 2 ч. При подсчете колоний, выросших на чашке Петри, учитывали только те чашки, на которых выросло более 300 изолированных колоний. Результаты. Гранулированный сорбент ВНИИТУ-1 обладает антибактериальным действием в отношении как грамположительных, так и грамотрицательных бактерий, а также их смеси. Сроки проявления антибактериального эффекта сорбента зависят от вида микроорганизмов и времени их контакта с образцом. Присутствие в составе сорбента модификатора ПВП усиливает его антибактериальные свойства. Полимермодифицированный образец обладает пролонгированным антибактериальным эффектом в отношении широкого спектра микроорганизмов (E. coli, St. aureus, P. aeruginosae и St. aureus) и смеси их культур. Заключение. Показана возможность повышения антибактериальных свойств гранулированных углеродных сорбентов по отношению к патогенной микрофлоре путем их модификации поли-N-винилпирролидоном. Дальнейшая разработка и применение углеродных сорбентов как средств сорбционной терапии является перспективным подходом к местному лечению гнойных ран. The purpose: Study the antibacterial activity of granulated carbon sorbents in relation to the pathogenic microflora under the conditions of different period of contact with sorbent. Methods. It has been investigated the antibacterial properties of VNIITU-1 granulated sorbent, which was hydromechanically treated, oxidized and stabilized up to pH standard parameters and VNIITU-1 modified poly-N-vinylpyrrolidone (PVP) against the pathogenic micro-organisms, including Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus agalactiae, and their mixes. All bacteria were clinical strains derived from the wounds of patients. Dilutions and amount of inoculated material were experimentally selected for further calculation of the grown colonies on the Petri dish. Bacteria were sorbed from the saline solution with bacteria concentration of 3 х 10 of the colony forming units in 1 ml of test sample (CFU/ ml). Eppendorf tube was added the sorbent 0.5 ml and bacterial suspension 1 ml; then the tube was shaken to remove the air bubbles and incubated for 1, 3, 6 and 24 hr. Upon the expiry of the target time for sorbent with pathogenic flora contact the supernatant fluid was collected in 100 ul and inoculated on the sterile agar plates of the Petri dishes with GMF agar nutrient medium. Inoculated Petri dishes were placed upside down in СО incubator 15AC (Japan) and incubated at 37 ± 1°C for 24 ± 2 hours. When counting the colonies growing on the Petri dish, they took into consideration only the dishes where more than 300 isolated colonies were grown. If more than 300 colonies were grown, «> 3x102 CFU/ml» was recorded in the protocol. Results. Granulated sorbent VNIITU-1 has an antibacterial effect against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and their mixes. Time period for manifestations of the sorbent antibacterial effect depends on the type of microorganisms and time of contact. PVP presence in sorbent composition enhances the antibacterial effect of the sorbent. Resin-modified sample has a prolonged antibacterial effect against a broad spectrum of microorganisms (E. coli, St. aureus, P. aeruginosae and St. aureus) and mixtures of their cultures. Conclusion. It has been determined the possibility for increasing of antibacterial properties of granulated carbon sorbents against the pathogenic microflora by their modification with poly-N-vinylpyrrolidone. Further development and application of carbon sorbents as the means for sorption therapy is a perspective approach for the local treatment of purulent wounds.

The lack of antibiotics with a novel mode of action associated with the spread of drug resistant bacteria make the fight against infectious diseases particularly challenging. A quinoline core is found in several anti-infectious drugs, such as mefloquine and bedaquiline. Two main objectives were set in this work. Firstly, we evaluated the anti-mycobacterial properties of the previous quinolines 3, which have been identified as good candidates against ESKAPEE (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter spp. and Escherichia coli) bacteria. Secondly, a new series 4 was designed and assessed against the same bacteria strains, taking the pair of enantiomers 3m/3n as the lead. More than twenty compounds 4 were prepared through a five-step asymmetric synthesis with good enantiomeric excesses (>90%). Interestingly, all compounds of series 3 were efficient on M. avium with MIC = 2–16 µg/mL, while series 4 was less active. Both series 3 and 4 were generally more active than mefloquine against the ESKAPEE bacteria. The quinolines 4 were either active against Gram-positive bacteria (MIC ≤ 4 µg/mL for 4c–4h and 4k/4l) or E. coli (MIC = 32–64 µg/mL for 4q–4v) according to the global lipophilicity of these compounds.

Sonneratia alba mangroves are known to have bioactive compounds such as antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of extract of S. alba dried mangrove leaves on Gram positive Staphylococcus aureus and Gram negative Escherichia coli bacteria. Extraction method by infusion, extraction time is 40 and 50 minutes. The extract obtained was then evaporated by the solvent above the water bath then the extracts were made concentrations of 5 and 10%. Antibacterial testing uses the modified Kirby-Bauer method. The highest yield is found in the treatment of 50 minutes infusion extraction time which is 15.6 ± 0.2%. The highest antibacterial activity against S. aureus was found in the treatment of 50 minutes extraction time both for 5% sample concentration of 7.0 mm (medium category) and at a sample concentration of 10% at 8.0 mm (medium category). While the highest antibacterial activity against E. coli bacteria was found in the treatment of 50 minutes extraction time both at 5% sample concentration of 8.0 (medium category) mm and at 10% sample concentration of 8.3 mm (medium category). From these results it can be seen that the S. alba extract of young mangrove leaf infusion has a broad spectrum antibacterial activity because it can inhibit both Gram positive S. aureus and Gram negative E. coli bacteria.Keyword: Mangrove, Sonneratia alba, infusion, rendemen, antibacterial. Mangrove Sonneratia alba diketahui memiliki senyawa bioaktif seperti antibakteri. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak Infusa daun muda mangrove S. alba kering terhadap bakteri Grampositif Staphylococcus aureus dan bakteri Gram negatif Escherichia coli. Metode ekstraksi dengan cara infusa, lama waktu ekstraksi yaitu40 dan 50 menit. Ekstrak yang didapatkan kemudian dievaporasi pelarutnya diatas penangas air kemudian hasil ekstrak dibuat konsentrasi 5 dan 10%. Pengujian antibakteri menggunakan metode Kirby-Bauer yang dimodifikasi. Rendemen tertinggi terdapat pada perlakuan lama ekstraksi infusa 50 menit yaitu sebesar 15,6±0,2 %. Aktivitas antibakteri tertinggi terhadap bakteri S. aureus terdapat pada perlakuan lama ekstraksi 50 menit baik untuk konsentrasi sampel 5% sebesar 7,0 mm (kategori sedang) dan pada konsentrasi sampel 10% sebesar 8,0 mm (kategori sedang). Sedangkan aktivitas antibakteri tertinggi terhadap bakteri E. coli terdapat pada perlakuan lama ekstraksi 50 menit baik pada konsentrasi sampel 5% sebesar 8,0 mm (kategori sedang) dan pada konsentrasi sampel 10% sebesar 8,3 mm (kategori sedang). Dari hasil ini dapat dilihat bahwa ekstrak infusa daun muda mangrove S. alba mempunyai aktivitas antibakteri dengan spektrum yang luas karena dapat menghambat baik  bakteri Gram positif S. aureus maupun Gram negatif E. coli.Kata kunci: Mangrove, Sonneratia alba, infusa, rendemen, antibakteri.
