This study aimed to evaluate the growth and yield of two potato genotypes (S) due to three sources of nitrogen (G) fertilizer on medium plains. The study was arranged in a two-factor, randomized block design factorial and was repeated three times. The first factor is the source of N fertilizer, consisting of three levels: S1 = ZA ((NH4)2SO4), S2 = urea (CO(NH2)2), and S3 = ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3). The second factor was potato genotype, consisting of two levels G1 = MS 13 genotype and G2 = At 4 genotype. The data obtained were analyzed by F test at 5% level (ANOVA) to determine the effect of treatment and further LSD test was carried out to determine differences between treatments, and multiple regression analysis to determine the most influential factors on potato tuber starch content. The results showed that the highest starch content was obtained by the At 4 genotype of 18,50% and was suitable for medium plains. While the starch content of the MS 13 genotype was 17,53%. For fertilizing nitrogen sources, it is recommended to use ammonium nitrate, because it obtains the highest yield of 27,30 tons ha-1 from other nitrogen fertilizer sources.

SOUZA, T. GROWTH AND YIELD OF PAPAYA UNDER COMBINATIONS OF NITROGEN SOURCES APPLIED BY IRRIGATION WATER  2 ABSTRACT The purpose of this work was to study the effects of different combinations of nitrogen sources (ammonium sulfate and calcium nitrate), applied by irrigation water, on biometric and production parameters of papaya cv. Tainung # 1. The experiment was carried out at Embrapa Cassava and Tropical Fruits, in Cruz dasAlmas,Bahia, under a randomized block design, with five treatments and five replications. Biometric data (plant height, stem diameter and leaf area) and production ones were collected. There was no significant difference among treatments, i.e., no difference between the nitrical and ammoniacal nitrogen sources at growth and production stages of the crop. The replacement of ammonium sulfate by calcium nitrate as the only nitrogen source for papaya provided a gain of 14.79% in yield, but the productions of cost increased 649.84%. The application of nitrogen to the soil during 12 months by ammonium sulfate during 50% of the period and calcium nitrate in the remaining did not cause acidification or increase of soil pH.KEYWORDS: Fertirrigation, growth parameters, productivity

ABSTRACT Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is a nutritionally demanding crop, and phosphorus (P) is a nutrient that exerts a large effect on tuber yield. However, as the availability of P is influenced by soil texture, there are doubts about how P supplementation affects the growth and yield of potato plants in different soil textures. Thus, here we aimed to evaluate the effect of P fertilization and soil texture on the nutrition, growth, tuber yield, and P use efficiency (PUE) of potato plants. The experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions in a randomized block design with a 4×2 factorial scheme and five replications. The treatments were represented by four P rates (10, 50, 100, and 200 mg dm-3 P) and two soil textures (clayey and sandy). The concentrations of P, Ca, and Mg in the leaves were higher in sandy soil, and P rates increased the concentrations of N, P, and Ca in the leaves of potato plants. Phosphorus fertilization increased plant growth, the amount of P accumulated in the shoot, and tuber yield in both soils; this trend was stronger in the potato cultivated in the clayey soil than in the sandy soil. The applied-PUE was not affected by soil texture. In the potato cultivated in the sandy soil, the taken up-PUE was reduced due to the decrease in dry matter production and an increase in P concentration in the organs of the plant with higher P fertilizer rates.

ABSTRACT Mineral fertilizer management is one of the most important agronomic techniques applied in papaya cultivation, which generally extracts large amounts of nutrients from soil, especially nitrogen. This study aimed to assess the phytotechnical and physiological attributes and yield of "Formosa‟ papaya hybrid Caliman 01 as a function of different doses of coated and conventional urea in the region of Bom Jesus - PI, Brazil. The treatments were arranged in a factorial scheme (2 × 4) and distributed in a randomized block design with four replications, corresponding to 2 nitrogen sources (coated urea, 43% of N; and conventional urea, 45% of N) and 4 doses nitrogen (350, 440, 530 and 620 g per plant). The N doses used corresponded to 80, 100, 120 and 140% of the nitrogen fertilization. It was used six plants per plot with two row borders, totaling 192 plants cultivated in the field. It was assessed the intercepted photosynthetically active radiation (int.PAR), radiation interception efficiency (PAREff.), leaf area index (LAI), plant height, stem diameter and yield. The coated urea promotes a higher growth and yield of "Formosa‟ papaya compared to the conventional urea. The application of 1.0 g of coated N promotes the production of 2.87 g of fruit per hectare while the application of 1.0 g of conventional N produces only 1.89 g of fruit per hectare, showing that the source of polymerized N increases the use efficiency of N applied to soil.

Sugarcane is the most promising crop among renewable biofuels producers and one of the countries that produces the most green matter per unit area, whose greater limitations to productivity are mainly related to the adequate availability of water and mineral nutrients, in particular nitrogen (N). Based on the hypothesis that the source and the availability of nitrogen influence the growth, development and yield of irrigated sugarcane in the cerrado region. The objective of this study was evaluate the biometric variables and yield of irrigated sugarcane, in the cane-plant cycle, as affected by source and nitrogen rate. The soil utilized was an Oxisol (Rhodic Hapludox), cerrado (savannah) phase. The experiment was carried out at Farm of the Raízen Mill, located in the municipality of Jataí, Goias State, Brazil. The variety IACSP95-5000 was used in a randomized block design, analyzed in a split-split-plot scheme, with three replicates. The treatments were four N rates (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1); two fertilizer sources (urea and ammonium nitrate). The factors evaluated were in the plots of four doses of N (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1). In the subplot two sources of N (urea and ammonium nitrate) and as sub-subplot were represented by four evaluation periods (210, 250, 290 and 330 days after the planting-DAP). The irrigation was by sprinkling, in a central pivot. The evaluated variables were: plant height, stalk diameter, total number of leaf, leaf area, number of industrializable tillers, stalk yield, pointer yield and total recoverable sugars. The highest stalk yield, pointer yield and total recoverable sugars occurred at the average dose of 143.61 kg ha-1 of N, with an average increase of 25.87%.

Effect of nitrogen and bio-fertilizer on growth and productivity of hybrid rice (cv. PHB 71) was assessed during dry seasons of 2017 and 2018 at Research Farm of BCKV under new alluvial zone of West Bengal. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with 12 treatment combinations having 4 levels of N and 3 types of bio-fertilizer replicated thrice. Application at 180 kg N/ha produced tallest plants at 90 DAT with maximum LAI (60 DAT), DMA (90 DAT), tillers/hill (90 DAT) and CGR (30-60 & 60-90 DAT). The same N rate resulted in highest panicles/m2, panicle length, panicle weight, filled grains/panicle and 1000-grain weight. A decrease in N dose from 180 to 150 kg/ha caused reduction in all those yield components; however, the variation was non-significant except for number of panicles/m2. Maximum grain yield, straw yield and harvest index was also achieved with 180 kg N/ha accounting 120.1, 34.9 and 32.8% more than the values obtained with zero-N; however, it was statistically at par with the yields and HI obtained with 150 kg N/ha. The Azospirillum application increased all the growth parameters, yield components and yield of hybrid rice over other tested bio-fertilizers (Azospirillum > PSB > K mobilizer), accounting 5.9 and 8.8% more than the yields obtained with PSB and K mobilizer. The interaction of N and bio-fertilizer exerted significant effect on growth attributes but failed to record any significant variations in yield components and yield of hybrid rice. The maximum economic benefit was achieved with combined application of 180 kg N/ha and Azospirillum.
