3D Scanning system plays a vital role in the field of engineering as well as for engineering purposes. The 3D Scanner is capable of capturing the real world image and converting it into digitalized form and sends the digitalized form of information to the computer for the further procedures. It aims at the reverse engineering process in a variety of industries like production industry to pertain the existing components for the inspection of quality components and for the simulation engineering to replica the nature from the authentic world. It may also leads to decrease in the manufacturing costs and also it creates much ease for the inspection of the materials. The application of 3D scanning is improved by reducing the cost of 3D scanning device. In this manuscript we dealt with the preparation or making of the 3D scanner system in a compact size with reduced cost in order to be effectively available to everyone and also to amplify the quality of the 3D scanning system.

This article presents the results of research on the use of modern nondestructive methods such as 3D scanning, thermography and computed tomography (CT) to assess the quality of multilayer ceramic molds. Tests were performed on spherical samples of multilayer ceramic molds in the raw state. Samples were made of molding sands composed of quartz and molochite powders, the alcoholic binder hydrolyzed ethyl silicate (ZKE) and an aqueous binder based on colloidal silica. Thickness measurements of spherical forms were made using a 3D scanner. Porosity measurements were made using CT. Additionally, thermography observations of the mold cooling process were made with controlled temperature and humidity. The results of temperature measurements of samples were compared with measurements of thickness and porosity. The practical goal was to determine the possibility of using thermography, 3D scanning and CT as a quick method for detecting mold defects by varying their thickness, porosity and cracks and for final verification of the ceramic molds’ condition before casting.

Fairness plays a vital role in crowd computing by attracting its workers. The power of crowd computing stems from a large number of workers potentially available to provide high quality of service and reduce costs. An important challenge in the crowdsourcing market today is the task allocation of crowdsourcing workflows. Requester-centric task allocation algorithms aim to maximize the completion quality of the entire workflow and minimize its total cost, which are discriminatory for workers. The crowdsourcing workflow needs to balance two objectives, namely, fairness and cost. In this study, we propose an alternative greedy approach with four heuristic strategies to address such an issue. In particular, the proposed approach aims to monitor the current status of workflow execution and use heuristic strategies to adjust the parameters of task allocation. We design a two-phase allocation model to accurately match the tasks with workers. The F-Aware allocates each task to the worker that maximizes the fairness and minimizes the cost. We conduct extensive experiments to quantitatively evaluate the proposed algorithms in terms of running time, fairness, and cost by using a customer objective function on the WorkflowSim, a well-known cloud simulation tool. Experimental results based on real-world workflows show that the F-Aware, which is 1% better than the best competitor algorithm, outperforms other optimal solutions in finding the tradeoff between fairness and cost.

Digital 3D scanning technology of the CAD / CAM system was used to increase the accuracy of the stump depth of the examined teeth. Collapsible plaster models were made for each clinical case and scanned in the CAD system - digital volume scanner. Using this technology on a 3D model to determine the exact depth of preparation of the stump. It was found that the study by digital volume scanning to determine and verify the depth of preparation of the examined teeth by orthopaedists, allows a more accurate and careful approach to the rationality of retraction for fixed orthopaedic structures.

Technology plays a vital role in patient rehabilitation, improving the quality of life of an individual. The increase in functional independence of disabled individuals requires adaptive and commercially available solutions. The use of sensor-based technology helps patients and therapeutic practices beyond traditional therapy. Adapting skeletal tracking technology could automate exercise tracking, records, and feedback for patient motivation and clinical treatment interventions and planning. In this paper, an exoskeleton was designed and subsequently developed for patients who are suffering from monoparesis in the upper extremities. The exoskeleton was developed according to the dimensions of a patient using a 3D scanner, and then fabricated with a 3D printer; the mechanism for the movement of the hand is a tendon flexion mechanism with servo motor actuators controlled by an ATMega2560 microcontroller. The exoskeleton was used for force augmentation of the patient’s hand by taking the input from the hand via flex sensors, and assisted the patient in closing, opening, grasping, and picking up objects, and it was also able to perform certain exercises for the rehabilitation of the patient. The exoskeleton is portable, reliable, durable, intuitive, and easy to install and use at any time.

Aggregate characteristics of shape, texture and grading influence on workability, finishability, bleeding, pumpability and segregation of fresh concrete and affects the strength, shrinkage, density, and durability of hardened concrete. About 80% of total volume of concrete consists of aggregate. Construction and durability problems have been reported due to poor mixture proportioning and variation on grading. Aggregate characteristics significantly affect the performance of Quality Concrete (QC) both in fresh and hardened state and have an impact on the cost effectiveness. Flaky and elongated particles lead to higher voids than cubical, rounded and well graded particles. The shape factor of aggregate plays a vital role in the design and performance of QC mix and it is mainly depends on the rock formation and type of crusher being used for crushing the aggregates. Flaky and elongated particles have larger specific surface area which results in higher demand of cement paste in cement concrete mix. These particles impede compaction or break during rolling and decrease the strength of the concrete structures. An attempt is made to study the effect of shape of aggregate on quality of the concrete used for the buildings and pavements. Initially an aggregate samples were collected from the stone crusher (two types) and prepared with different proportions of Flakiness and Elongation indices to conduct tests on properties of aggregates and compressive strength and flexural strength tests on concrete. The effect of different percentages from 0 to 50% of combined Flaky and Elongation Aggregates (CFEA) for quality concrete on the compressive and flexural strength of cement concrete is studied. The other properties of aggregate such as bulk density, impact value, water absorption have been studied for different shapes of aggregates. The cost analysis has been carried out with an optimum value of 30% CFEA in 1:3 proportions of flaky and elongated particles.

Abstract A recent National Academy of Sciences study shows that design and manufacturing is dominated by three “eighty percent” rules. Eighty percent of the cost of a product typically is the purchase cost of its components. Eighty percent of the manufacturing costs are determined in the first twenty percent of the design phase. And eighty percent of an engineer’s time is spent not on design, but on communications: obtaining information about components comprising the design and coordinating with other engineers about design issues. Thus, the speed and quality of product development is heavily dependent on a designer’s ability to perform component engineering — to configure a set of components that work well together with respect to performance, reliability, cost and delivery schedule. This paper describes services provided in the Active Catalogs system that support the component engineering process. These services enable a designer not only to find candidate parts to serve as individual components in a design, but to explore and assess interactions between candidate parts for sets of components. These services include mechanisms for: (1) creating queries for parts based on their intended use rather than merely parametric specifications; (2) refining those queries to take account of constraints imposed by other components; (3) providing multi-modal information to help designers assess and compare candidate parts; and (4) generating simulation models of candidate parts and integrating them to provide simulation models of candidate systems.
