scholarly journals Development of The AR School App for Children with Hearing Impairment Who Begin Learning Ecuadorian Sign Language using Augmented Reality

Augmented reality AR has been used for many years in different fields of education. It has provided advantages in learning, However, no applications focused on the initial learning of Ecuadorian sign language for children with hearing impairments in their primary school years have been found. In this paper we present the development of a mobile application based on augmented reality, the Unity tool was used as a platform for mobile devices and the Vuforia SDK complement for augmented reality. With this application, the child can see the gesticulation of words in sign language through the use of printed templates. It also has an option to perform a quiz that will allow it to evaluate the knowledge the children acquired from the learning module. The mobile application called ARSchool based on augmented reality which is designed and adapted for people with hearing impairment, mainly for school-age children, as support for the initial learning of sign language in Ecuador. Once the application was developed, it was tested both at school and at home, in which teachers and parents made children with hearing impairments interact

The article is an analysis of the mobbing problem occurrence among children adolescents, establishing the causes of a school environment the main characteristics of the concept and finding ways to prevent mobbing. The method of studying the problem of mobbing in children in the school environment explains to us the root causes of its occurrence, reveals the very essence of its appearance, as well as the manifestations of mobbing in middle school age children from their peers. In a deeper analysis of the problem of mobbing, we identified the main aspects of preventing this phenomenon, also developed a methodological plan for the prevention of mobbing in schools, and developed and described preventive measures to prevent manifestations among middle school children for teachers and parents who have and can influence students or their children in the context of this issue. The findings of this paper reflect the state of the problem of mobbing in the current educational process in Ukraine, taking into account the actualization of its manifestations due to the large number of displaced persons, including middle-aged children, from temporarily occupied territories during the Russian armed aggression against our country. The processes taking place in our extremes and in the world are inevitable for society as a whole, and so the challenge we face requires more detailed consideration of the issue of mobbing among adolescents of schools, the urgent response to its present manifestations, and addressing these issues, specifics of personal approaches to middle school children in each case. Analyzing the problem of mobbing among children in school, especially middle school children, we have come to the conclusion that the multiplicity of influence factors determines the direction of the study of the problem and gives this problem a new special approach, taking into account many points, and obliges us to solve the problem of mobbing the school, so that it does not persecute a person who is primarily a person, in adolescence and adulthood.

The first part of this paper reviews literature on the use of gesture in musical contexts and reports an investigation of the gestures (spontaneous gesticulation) made by musicians with different levels of hearing impairment in rehearsal talk. Profoundly deaf musicians, who were also users of British Sign Language, were found to produce significantly more gestures than moderately deaf and hearing musicians. Analysis also revealed the presence of underlying spatial and cross-modal associations in the gestural representations produced by all the musicians. The second part of the paper discusses the results of the study and addresses some wider theoretical questions. First, a classification of ‘musical shaping gestures’ (MSGs) according to existing taxonomies is attempted. Second, the question of how a standardised ‘sign language of music’ could be formed is addressed and, finally, the potential uses of such a system are considered.

Literacy is fundamental for children’s growth and development, as it impacts their educational, societal, and vocational progress. However, the mapping of language to printed text is different for children with hearing impairments. When reading, a hearing-impaired child maps text to sign language (SL) which is a visual language that can benefit from technological advancements, such as augmented reality (AR). There exist several efforts that utilise AR for the purpose of advancing the educational needs of people who are hearing impaired for different SLs. Nevertheless, only a few directly elicit the visual needs of children who are hearing impaired. This study aims to address this gap in the literature with a series of user studies to elicit user requirements for the development of an AR application that supports the literacy development of Arab children who are hearing impaired. Three instruments were utilised in these user studies, each targeting a different group of literacy influencers: questionnaires issued to parents of children with hearing impairments, interviews with teachers, and observations of children who were deaf or hard of hearing. The findings indicated that the parents and teachers preferred Arabic SL (ArSL), pictures, and videos, whereas the children struggled with ArSL and preferred finger-spelling. These preferences highlighted the importance of integrating various resources to strengthen the written Arabic and ArSL literacy of Arab children. The findings have contributed to the literature on the preferences of Arab children who are hearing impaired, their educators, and parents. They also showed the importance of establishing requirements elicited directly from intended users who are disabled to proactively support their learning process. The results of the study were used in the preliminary development of Word & Sign, an AR mobile application intended to aid Arab children who are hearing impaired in their linguistic development.

The authors hereby present a report on research aimed at the possibilities of adjustments of psychodiagnostic materials to be used in the population of children with hearing impairments in order to reduce or eliminate the functional impact of the defect on the child's performance and consequently on the diagnostic process. The adjustment was made by formal language modification without intervention in the content, and by the creation of a version in Czech sign language. The B-J.E.P.I. personality questionnaire and a comprehension subtest using the Wechsler intelligence scale for children (further WISC-III) were experimentally modified and tested in practice between 2011 and 2016.

STATISTICAL studies undertaken in many communities of this country show rather marked variation as to the percentage of children suffering from significant handicaps in communication. However, none of those making such surveys would feel it an exaggeration if one ventured to state that the instance of handicapping impairments of hearing range somewhere between 1 and 2% in the preschool and early school age children. The number of crippling hearing problems apparently is growing. This growth paradoxically seems to be proportional to the improvement in the obstetrician's and pediatrician's ability to save children, particularly children born after severe trauma, and premature children. The national picture of the hearing handicapped child is changing. Thirty years ago our deaf schools were filled with children whose hearing impairments were caused by sequelae of meningococcic meningitis or of other infections that involved the ears. This no longer pertains, and we are faced today with a population of children whose hearing handicaps include lesions not localized to the middle or inner ear on even to the auditory nerve. Very few of these children arc completely deaf. They suffer either distorted hearing as the result of damage to the end-organ, or, due to some central damage they are unable to understand speech because they cannot properly comprehend on synthesize speech patterns without special training. Often such youngsters suffer from multiple neurologic handicaps. Many children have an amazing ability to learn communication both from an auditory and a speech point of view, provided that their problem is detected early and carefully evaluated, and that they are placed in a well-designed training program. After the age of 6 on 7 years, children with such injuries can rarely be trained with as good results as are obtained in the preschool group. Early detection therefore is of the utmost importance.
