An evaluation of use of lean and sustainable manufacturing tools was made, correlating them with the productivity and quality indices in an industry of the electronic sector located in the city of Mexicali. In this evaluated company, it was observed that some improper manufacturing methods was used and for this reason, generated a large amount of waste from electronic devices and electronic boards. This caused the productivity and quality indices to decrease, originating the need for extra time and with it unnecessary costs that devalued the prices of manufactured products, due to the competitiveness in the electronic industry sector evaluated. With the application of tools of lean manufacturing and sustainable manufacturing, the productivity and quality levels were increased and both overtime and unnecessary costs were reduced, achieving competitive prices in the evaluated industry. The installation method of electronic components with polarity in electronic boards was evaluated, due to the fact that a great diversity of products emerged from the automatic insertion area with defects, indicating reversed polarity, which should be solved, otherwise, short circuits could be generated or lack of electrical conductivity, in the manufactured products in their final process. This caused the manufactured products to not work properly, causing the presence of defective products and with it low levels of productivity and quality and economic losses. and It was detected that this occurred due to the lack of training of the operative personnel and the neglect of the operative workers of the automatic insertion area. In order to control this situation, as a methodological part, schematic models were developed to support the operational personnel in their activities in the automatic insertion area. This proposal with the schematic models developed for use in the electronics industry, where the research was made. The study was developed from 2018 to 2019.

OBJECTIVE: to characterize the profiles of families in the area covered by a Primary Health Center and to identify those in a vulnerable situation. METHOD: this is an epidemiological, observational, cross-sectional and quantitative study. 320 home visits were made, defined by a random sample of the areas covered by the Urban Center 1 in the city of São Sebastião, in Brazil's Federal District. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection, elaborated based on the Family Development Index (FDI). RESULTS: there was a predominance of young families, women, and low levels of schooling. The FDI permitted the identification of families in situations of "high" and "very high" vulnerability. The most critical dimensions were: "access to knowledge" and "access to work". CONCLUSION: the study indicated the importance of greater investments in the areas of education, work and income, and highlighted the need for the use of a wider concept of vulnerability by the health services.

The aim of this paper is to examine the diversification of South Africa’s exports over the period 1994 to 2012. A decomposition of export growth shows that exports of non-fuel primary commodities as well as medium-skill and technology-intensive manufactured products increased. The largest decrease was in the export of resource-intensive manufactures. These changes reflect South Africa’s endowment of relatively low levels of physical and human capital. The analysis shows that export products that are further from the country’s comparative advantage, make smaller contributions to growth in the intensive margin. It clearly shows the challenge of sustainably diversifying the export basket.

Economic conflict crimes are defined in this paper as violations of international human rights and humanitarian law, as well as domestic law, associated with military and political conflict and producing significant monetary as well as other forms of suffering for civilians. Criminologists are well positioned by disciplinary emphasis to document and explain military and political violence resulting in economic conflict crimes. Criminal victimization associated with the US-led invasion of Iraq imposed an enormous toll on civilians. Yet there is little attention by criminologists or others to the profound economic costs to Iraqis, whether through lost property, life, or opportunities. We cautiously estimate that the economic losses for households in the city of Baghdad alone were almost US$100 billion, and more than three times this amount for the entire country, with Sunni groups experiencing significantly greater losses than others. So far as we know, our article presents the first estimates of civilian losses from economic conflict crimes that followed the US-led invasion of Iraq. These losses were widespread and systematic, the hallmarks of crimes against humanity.

Objetivo: Establecer los determinantes sociales de la salud estructurales e intermedios y su relación con la discapacidad en la ciudad de Barranquilla, apartir del análisis de las diferencias por género. Materiales y métodos: Estudio descriptivo correlacional, con 726 registros de la base de datos a 2011.Se utilizó el Registro DANE de personas con discapacidad, que fue sistematizado en el programa SPSS Versión 19.0. Resultados: Se encontrarondiferencias estadísticamente significativas (p < 0,05) y niveles de dependencia baja relacionadas con tipo de afiliación a la seguridad social, la raza, eltrabajo desempeñado y el salario mensual. Conclusiones: Existen diferencias por género en algunos determinantes sociales de la salud. Además, ladiscapacidad se hace evidente cuando la persona encuentra o presenta restricciones que le impiden su plena participación en la sociedad. ABSTRACTObjective:To establish the social determinants of health and intermediate structural and Disability in the city of Barranquilla, analyzing genderdifferences. Over the past few decades, Lean Manufacturing (LM) has been the pinnacle of strategies applied for cost and waste reduction. However as the search for competitive advantage and production growth continues, there is a growing consciousness towards environmental preservation. With this consideration in mind this research investigates and applies Value Stream Mapping (VSM) techniques to aid in reducing environmental impacts of manufacturing companies. The research is based on empirical observation within the Chassis weld plant of Company X. The observation focuses on the weld operations and utilizes the cross member line of Auxiliary Cross as a point of study. Using various measuring instruments to capture the emissions emitted by the weld and service equipment, data is collected. The data is thereafter visualised via an Environmental Value Stream Map (EVSM) using a 7-step method. It was found that the total lead-time to build an Auxiliary Cross equates to 16.70 minutes and during this process is emitted. It was additionally found that the UPR x LWR stage of the process indicated both the highest cycle time and carbon emissions emitted and provides a starting point for investigation on emission reduction activity. The EVSM aids in the development of a method that allows quick and comprehensive analysis of energy and material flows. The results of this research are important to practitioners and academics as it provides an extension and further capability of Lean Manufacturing tools. Additionally, the EVSM provides a gateway into realising environmental benefits and sustainable manufacturing through Lean Manufacturing.

The authors studied the economic efficiency of conservative treatment of 196 patients with injuries of the rotator-bicepital complex on the basis of the City Clinical Hospital № 6 in Minsk for the period from 2013 to 2020 using the developed approaches and the introduction of new technologies. As a result of shortening the length of stay of patients in a hospital with the use of new treatment technologies, it can reduce the cost of money. The total economic effect was 30726 BYN. The study of the parameters of economic efficiency indicates the feasibility of using the introduced medical technologies. As a result, the total amount of savins from reducing economic losses amounted to 24 006 BYN.

Ceramic-reinforced slabs were widely used in Spain during the second half of the 20th century, especially for industrial buildings. This solution was popular due to the lack of materials at that time, as it requires almost no concrete and low ratios of reinforcement. In this study, we present and discuss the results of a real load-bearing test of a real ceramic-reinforced slab, which was loaded and reloaded cyclically for a duration of one week in order to describe any damage under a high-demand loading series. Due to the design of these slabs, the structural response is based more on shear than on bending due to the low levels of concrete and the geometry and location of re-bars. The low ratio of concrete makes these slabs ideal for short-span structures, mainly combined with steel or RC frames. The slab which was analyzed in this study covers a span of 4.88 m between two steel I-beams (IPN400), and corresponds to a building from the mid-1960s in the city of Igualada (Barcelona, Spain). A load-bearing test was carried out up to 7.50 kN/m2 by using two-story sacks full of sand. The supporting steel beams were propped up in order to avoid any interference in the results of the test; without the shoring of the steel structure, deflections would come from the combination of the ceramic slab together with the steel profiles. A process of loading and unloading was repeated for a duration of six days in order to describe the cyclic response of the slab under high levels of loading. Finally, vibration analysis of the slab was also done; the higher the load applied, the higher the fundamental frequency of the cross section, which is more comfortable in terms of serviceability.

This paper explores the relationships between lean manufacturing (LM), the promotion of green practices, employee involvement, pressure to take actions against environmental issues, the adoption of an ISO 14001-based environmental management system (EMS) and environmental performance in order to understand how LM can help improve environmental performance through environmental practices and the development of a lean culture. The effects of pressure to “go green”, employee involvement and the adoption of an EMS based on the International Organization for Standardization’s standard ISO 14001 are discussed. Data were collected from 220 Chinese manufacturing firms and analyzed using partial least squares (PLS) regression. The results suggest that the implementation of LM has a positive effect on the promotion of green practices and consequent achievement of high environmental performance; employee involvement is a moderator that affects the relationship between green practices and environmental performance; pressure to “go green” is a mediator in the relationship between LM and green practices; however, the adoption of ISO 14001 does not act as a moderator on the relationship between LM and green practices, but synergies emerge if ISO 14001 is integrated with LM. The study shows the importance of human attitudes and fosters managers to develop the necessary mechanisms to ensure and enhance employee involvement and lean culture. Although these determinants of environmental sustainability have been studied separately until now, this paper analyzes them simultaneously, investigating the relationship between different strategies and shedding some light on successful actions that promote sustainable manufacturing, and on the role of LM in sustainability. The findings can help manufacturers to take the initiative to improve environmental performance and assist governments in implementing industrial policies.
