Ceramic-reinforced slabs were widely used in Spain during the second half of the 20th century, especially for industrial buildings. This solution was popular due to the lack of materials at that time, as it requires almost no concrete and low ratios of reinforcement. In this study, we present and discuss the results of a real load-bearing test of a real ceramic-reinforced slab, which was loaded and reloaded cyclically for a duration of one week in order to describe any damage under a high-demand loading series. Due to the design of these slabs, the structural response is based more on shear than on bending due to the low levels of concrete and the geometry and location of re-bars. The low ratio of concrete makes these slabs ideal for short-span structures, mainly combined with steel or RC frames. The slab which was analyzed in this study covers a span of 4.88 m between two steel I-beams (IPN400), and corresponds to a building from the mid-1960s in the city of Igualada (Barcelona, Spain). A load-bearing test was carried out up to 7.50 kN/m2 by using two-story sacks full of sand. The supporting steel beams were propped up in order to avoid any interference in the results of the test; without the shoring of the steel structure, deflections would come from the combination of the ceramic slab together with the steel profiles. A process of loading and unloading was repeated for a duration of six days in order to describe the cyclic response of the slab under high levels of loading. Finally, vibration analysis of the slab was also done; the higher the load applied, the higher the fundamental frequency of the cross section, which is more comfortable in terms of serviceability.

Abstract The article discusses a project that features the relocation of the historic Atelier building, built by Krakow-based architect Wandalin Beringer (1839–1923) who was active in the early twentieth century, and the regeneration of a plot belonging to the Congregation of the Resurrection since 1885, which is located at 12 Łobzowska Street in Krakow. The method includes cutting the entire structure off at the foundation and then after reinforcing it with a steel structure transporting it in its entirety to the new location. The project included two possible variants of moving the building in a straight line, either by 21 or 59 metres and evaluates two projects of further regeneration, the adaptive reuse of the building as an exhibition and religious space as well as a proposal for the remodelling of the nearby plot that belongs to the Congregation into a space for meditation and as a recreational park. The aim of these measures is to prevent the demolition of this building, now over a century old, as a result of which a forgotten element of the cultural heritage of the city will be saved. This project was based on the results of analyses of the cultural and historical conditions of Krakow. The block of buildings in which the Atelier in question is located is a very attractive location, near to the very centre of Krakow, adjacent to residential, service and educational buildings. It is directly adjacent to the Monastery Complex of the Congregation of the Resurrection, listed as a heritage building under conservation protection (municipal registry of heritage buildings). In the second half of the twentieth century, the building was used as a workroom by artists such as Xawery Dunikowski and later by the sculptress Teodora Stasiak. The case of the Atelier may provide an inspiration for discussion as well as raising awareness among citizens and city authorities to avoid future situations in which cultural heritage may become forgotten or demolished.

<p>The Gouin bascule bridge is a 1,300 tons gigantic steel structure that allows pleasure boats to enter the Chambly Canal National Historic Site and provides access over the Richelieu river for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. As part of a project to revitalize and modernize the city centre, the architectural concept of the movable bridge will provide a landmark to this highly touristic site. There are only few examples in the world of such movable bridges with a large suspended counterweight. The challenges of the project include strict architectural criteria, fabrication and alignment of over 800 mm in diameter pins, the assembly on-site of remarkably large bridge parts and the precise balancing of the bridge.</p><p>When designing this structure, WSP made sure to consider the non-redundant aspect of some parts of the structure. Details regarding the design of the stays supporting the entire upper structure and the hydraulic cylinders initiating the rotation are described in this paper. The planning of the works in the middle of the critical infrastructures and services surrounding the bridge is explained. Since no interruption of the navigation on the canal was allowed during construction, some special considerations had to be taken with regards to the works at the foundation units.</p>

OBJECTIVE: to characterize the profiles of families in the area covered by a Primary Health Center and to identify those in a vulnerable situation. METHOD: this is an epidemiological, observational, cross-sectional and quantitative study. 320 home visits were made, defined by a random sample of the areas covered by the Urban Center 1 in the city of São Sebastião, in Brazil's Federal District. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection, elaborated based on the Family Development Index (FDI). RESULTS: there was a predominance of young families, women, and low levels of schooling. The FDI permitted the identification of families in situations of "high" and "very high" vulnerability. The most critical dimensions were: "access to knowledge" and "access to work". CONCLUSION: the study indicated the importance of greater investments in the areas of education, work and income, and highlighted the need for the use of a wider concept of vulnerability by the health services.

For seismic resilience-based design (RBD), a selection of recorded time histories for dynamic structural analysis is usually required. In order to make individual structures and communities regain their target functions as promptly as possible, uncertainty of the structural response estimates is in great need of reduction. The ground motion (GM) selection based on a single target response spectrum, such as acceleration or displacement response spectrum, would bias structural response estimates leading significant uncertainty, even though response spectrum variance is taken into account. In addition, resilience of an individual structure is not governed by its own performance, but depends severely on the performance of other systems in the same community. Thus, evaluation of resilience of a community using records matching target spectrum at whole periods would be reasonable because the fundamental periods of systems in the community may be varied. This paper presents a GM selection approach based on a probabilistic framework to find an optimal set of records to match multiple target spectra, including acceleration and displacement response spectra. Two major steps are included in that framework. Generation of multiple sub-spectra from target displacement response spectrum for selecting sets of GMs was proposed as the first step. Likewise, the process as genetic algorithm (GA), evolvement of individuals previously generated, is the second step, rather than using crossover and mutation techniques. A novel technique improving the match between acceleration response spectra of samples and targets is proposed as the second evolvement step. It is proved computationally efficient for the proposed algorithm by comparing with two developed GM selection algorithms. Finally, the proposed algorithm is applied to select GM records according to seismic codes for analysis of four archetype reinforced concrete (RC) frames aiming to evaluate the influence of GM selection considering two design response spectra on structural responses. The implications of design response spectra especially the displacement response spectrum and GM selection algorithm are summarized.

The computational model of numerical analysis of a suspended pre-stressed steel reticulated shell subjected to fire load is established with using the software Marc. Based on the model presented here, numerical analysis of thermal response and structural response of the pre-stressed steel structure are computed. The different space height and different rise-span ratio are considered for analysis of response temperature, displacements and stresses of the pre-stressed lattice shell under fire for one fire source. It is also shown that displacement of the node right above the inner cable is the maximum among the four nodes presented here as the fire source is located at the position right below the second-ring cable of the structure. It is concluded that the influence degree of space height of the structure on the fire response of the structure is not great, but rise-span ratio has obvious and great effect on displacements and stresses of the pre-stressed steel structure with large span in fire.

Objetivo: Establecer los determinantes sociales de la salud estructurales e intermedios y su relación con la discapacidad en la ciudad de Barranquilla, apartir del análisis de las diferencias por género. Materiales y métodos: Estudio descriptivo correlacional, con 726 registros de la base de datos a 2011.Se utilizó el Registro DANE de personas con discapacidad, que fue sistematizado en el programa SPSS Versión 19.0. Resultados: Se encontrarondiferencias estadísticamente significativas (p < 0,05) y niveles de dependencia baja relacionadas con tipo de afiliación a la seguridad social, la raza, eltrabajo desempeñado y el salario mensual. Conclusiones: Existen diferencias por género en algunos determinantes sociales de la salud. Además, ladiscapacidad se hace evidente cuando la persona encuentra o presenta restricciones que le impiden su plena participación en la sociedad. ABSTRACTObjective:To establish the social determinants of health and intermediate structural and Disability in the city of Barranquilla, analyzing genderdifferences. With the rapid expansion of the city in China, more and more old industrial buildings in cities become idle and abandoned. However, Old industrial buildings are carrying the history of a city and reflecting the urban development process so that renewal of the old industrial buildings has great value in the sense of cultural, aesthetic, ecological, economic, and sustainable development. How to reuse those buildings is worth studying. This paper, based on the principle of Adaptive Renewal and sustainable reuse, takes two typical successful cases to discuss how to reuse these old industrial buildings into culture ones in China.

Traditional methods of calculation of beam constructions of floors and coverings of industrial buildings assume their consideration when calculating separately from the frame structures, in particular, reinforced concrete slabs, without taking into account their joint work, which leads to a significant margin of safety. Today in Ukraine there is a significant number of industrial buildings and structures that need strengthening and reconstruction. In this regard, of particular importance are studies of the actual load-bearing capacity of the frames of single-storey and multi-storey industrial buildings, and both in the reconstruction and in new construction, the results of which will significantly reduce costs and more rationally design structures. At the same time, one of the most relevant areas is the study of the joint work of metal load-bearing structures with prefabricated reinforced concrete structures of rigid disks of coatings and floors in their calculation.           Moreover, in the national building codes, as well as in the educational and methodological literature, the calculation methods of taking into account the joint work of such constructions are not fully covered. The purpose of this work is to estimate the reduction of mass of the metal beam structure in its calculation in bending, taking into account the joint work with the rigid disk of the floor consist of precast concrete. As part of the study, the calculation of the floor beam according to the traditional calculation scheme - without taking into account the joint work with the floor slab, the calculation of its cross-section taking into account the joint work with floor slabs and experimental numerical study of the floor by the finite element method. Modeling of the floor fragment was performed in the software packages "SCAD Office" and "LIRA CAD 2019". Numerical research is aimed at verifying the feasibility of using the calculation methodology of DBN B.2.6-98-2009 to determine the effective width of the shelf when calculating the T-sections for prefabricated reinforced concrete slabs, which are included in the joint work with the floor beams. A comparative analysis of the obtained cross-section of the beam with the beam which was previously calculated by the traditional method of calculation  in stresses in the most dangerous cross section and the total mass of the beams. According to the results of the analysis, the correctness of the application of the above normative method for determining the effective width of the shelf of T-bending reinforced concrete elements was confirmed.

The amount of potential investment in Padang City, Indonesia since 2017 attracted many investors to contribute to the city. One of the investments is a 12-story hotel that will be constructed in By Pass Street of the city. The hotel is located in a high seismic zone area, so the seismic base isolation has been proposed to be used in the hotel building. The main aim of using a seismic base isolation device is to reduce the inertia forces introduced in the structure due to earthquakes by shifting the fundamental period of the structure out of dangerous resonance range and concentration of the deformation demand at the isolation system. An analytical study on the Reinforced Concrete (RC) hotel building with and without rubber bearing (RB) base isolation is carried out using the response spectrum and time history analysis methods. The results show that internal forces and inter-story drift of the building with high damping rubber bearing (HDRB) are lower than that of the fixed base with a remarkable margin. From this study, it is recommended to use the HDRB base isolation for medium and high rise buildings with soft soil in Padang City, Indonesia.
