Technological advancement in the design of wireless communication have propelled an active interest in the field of Wireless Networks, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), and Mobile Adhoc Networks (MANETs). Now days the speed and privacy are more reason of concern than the performance. The attacks can occur and there is always a chance that it will be a success. One of the major problems with Wireless Network security is that, all types of attacks are not known, and new ones emerge constantly [6]. Moreover, there is also a range of attacks that can be launched in the different mode, and thus making it more difficult for the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) to detect them. Therefore, main approach in network security is to detect and remove malicious intrusions. In this paper three different techniques have been proposed for securing Wireless LAN, WSNs and MANETs.

Solutions that can be implemented to secure a LAN include firewalls and intrusion detection / prevention systems (IDS / IPS). For a wireless network, security is a challenge considering the specific elements of this type of network: the physical area from which the connection is possible, and the weaknesses of the protocols used for data encryption. This article presents a case study on the most widely used protocols (WEP, WPA and WPA2) to secure wireless networks and the methodology by which passwords can be decrypted using Kali Linux distribution - available for free on the Internet - and applications included in this operating system.

Wireless networks in the lives of people at work, at home, and in public places, plays a decisive role. Given the widespread demand for wireless networks, providers deploy wireless local area networks (WLAN) to provide access to broadband Internet Within the range of a public wireless LAN hotspot such as in airports or hotels, users can access their e-mails and browse the Internet either for free or, most often, against a fee. However, as the number of users rises, so does the risk that users may misbehave. Misbehaving users can to a large extent increase their share of bandwidth at the expense of other paid users by slightly modifying the driver of the network adapter. As the use of such networks grows, users will demand secure yet efficient, low-latency communications. Intruders’ detection is one of the key techniques that can be used to protect a network against outsiders. Many Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) have been designed for wired networks. Unfortunately, most of these IDSs do not give the expected results when used with wireless networks and are especially poor at addressing the Media Access Control (MAC) layer problem. In this sheet, we present the design and implementation of an IDS tool that is chosen for WLANs and addresses misbehavior at the MAC layer properly. Keywords: IDS, WLAN, MAC layer, Misbehavior

An Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is a network security system that detects, identifies, and tracks an intruder or an invader in a network. As the usage of the internet is growing every day in our society, the IDS is becoming an essential part of the network security system. Therefore, the proper research and implementation of IDSs are required. Today, with the help of improved technologies at our disposal, many solutions have been found to create many intrusion detection systems. However, it is difficult to identify the perfect solution from the vast options we have available. Hence, motivated by the need of a better security system, this paper presents a survey of different published solutions that have been developed and/or researched on the topic of intrusion detection techniques during the period from 2000 to 2019, including the accuracy of the output. With the help of this survey, an all-inclusive view of the different papers would be at one’s disposal.

In recent years, wireless networks are the key concern in communication field. Mobile Ad Hoc NETwork (MANET) comprised number of wireless nodes to communicate with each other for information exchange. MANET is temporary network constructed for particular purpose and no need of any pre-established infrastructure. MANET became well-liked technology due to its flexibility for various applications. The flexibility brings new security threats in MANET. Intrusion detection system used to identify and prevent the security attacks at different levels. IDS needed continuous monitoring which resulted in fast exhaustion of node battery life. Many researchers introduced different intrusion detection techniques for detecting the attacks variants. But, the energy consumption and intrusion detection performance was not improved. In order to address these problems, the existing intrusion detection techniques are reviewed.

Security in IoT networks is currently mandatory, due to the high amount of data that has to be handled. These systems are vulnerable to several cybersecurity attacks, which are increasing in number and sophistication. Due to this reason, new intrusion detection techniques have to be developed, being as accurate as possible for these scenarios. Intrusion detection systems based on machine learning algorithms have already shown a high performance in terms of accuracy. This research proposes the study and evaluation of several preprocessing techniques based on traffic categorization for a machine learning neural network algorithm. This research uses for its evaluation two benchmark datasets, namely UGR16 and the UNSW-NB15, and one of the most used datasets, KDD99. The preprocessing techniques were evaluated in accordance with scalar and normalization functions. All of these preprocessing models were applied through different sets of characteristics based on a categorization composed by four groups of features: basic connection features, content characteristics, statistical characteristics and finally, a group which is composed by traffic-based features and connection direction-based traffic characteristics. The objective of this research is to evaluate this categorization by using various data preprocessing techniques to obtain the most accurate model. Our proposal shows that, by applying the categorization of network traffic and several preprocessing techniques, the accuracy can be enhanced by up to 45%. The preprocessing of a specific group of characteristics allows for greater accuracy, allowing the machine learning algorithm to correctly classify these parameters related to possible attacks.

In today’s world, Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is one of the significant tools used to the improvement of network security, by detecting attacks or abnormal data accesses. Most of existing IDS have many disadvantages such as high false alarm rates and low detection rates. For the IDS, dealing with distributed and massive data constitutes a challenge. Besides, dealing with imprecise data is another challenge. This paper proposes an Intrusion Detection System based on big data fuzzy analytics; Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) method is used to cluster and classify the pre-processed training dataset. The CTU-13 and the UNSW-NB15 are used as distributed and massive datasets to prove the feasibility of the method. The proposed system shows high performance in terms of accuracy, precision, detection rates, and false alarms.

It is necessary to understand the basic concept of wireless networks, to consider the security issues related to them, and then observe how they work and what benefits they can bring in different cases. In this regard the given research paper presents the fundamental principles of security as well as related open questions. It reviews the security issues of the wireless networks. Security of protocols of wireless network routing has become an urgent necessity to stimulate the network launching and expand the area of its usage. Therefore, the presented research paper proposes and defines different solutions and concepts for security.

Security is a major challenge faced by cloud computing (CC) due to its open and distributed architecture. Hence, it is vulnerable and prone to intrusions that affect confidentiality, availability, and integrity of cloud resources and offered services. Intrusion detection system (IDS) has become the most commonly used component of computer system security and compliance practices that defends cloud environment from various kinds of threats and attacks. This chapter presents the cloud architecture, an overview of different intrusions in the cloud, the challenges and essential characteristics of cloud-based IDS (CIDS), and detection techniques used by CIDS and their types. Then, the authors analyze 24 pertinent CIDS with respect to their various types, positioning, detection time, and data source. The analysis also gives the strength of each system and limitations in order to evaluate whether they carry out the security requirements of CC environment or not.
