Computational modeling represents useful tool for the assessment of newly designed or refurbished building materials and structures. Especially, when complex buildings elements need to be assessed from a hygrothermal point of view, the computational modeling is the right approach with desired power and accuracy. In this paper a historical wall element is investigated using two-dimensional simulation in order to study the effect of application of several insulation materials in various scenarios. In total two insulation materials are investigated (mineral wool, wood fiber boards) that are applied in three different scenarios. All simulations are performed under real climatic load. The results of the computational simulations reveal potential weak points in system application and can provide engineers and designers with valuable recommendations and practical information. The best results were obtained for thermal insulation from mineral wool. On the other hand, an improper system application can lead to a significant devaluation of the beneficial effects on the thermal performance of the studied brick element.

SummaryWhen mammals navigate in the physical environment, specific neurons such as grid-cells, head-direction cells, and place-cells activate to represent the navigable surface, the faced direction of movement, and the specific location the animal is visiting. Here we test the hypothesis that these codes are also activated when humans navigate abstract language-based representational spaces. Human participants learnt the meaning of novel words as arbitrary signs referring to specific artificial audiovisual objects varying in size and sound. Next, they were presented with sequences of words and asked to process them semantically while we recorded the activity of their brain using fMRI. Processing words in sequence was conceivable as movements in the semantic space, thus enabling us to systematically search for the different types of neuronal coding schemes known to represent space during navigation. By applying a combination of representational similarity and fMRI-adaptation analyses, we found evidence of i) a grid-like code in the right postero-medial entorhinal cortex, representing the general bidimensional layout of the novel semantic space; ii) a head-direction-like code in parietal cortex and striatum, representing the faced direction of movements between concepts; and iii) a place-like code in medial prefrontal, orbitofrontal, and mid cingulate cortices, representing the Euclidean distance between concepts. We also found evidence that the brain represents 1-dimensional distances between word meanings along individual sensory dimensions: implied size was encoded in secondary visual areas, and implied sound in Heschl’s gyrus/Insula. These results reveal that mentally navigating between 2D word meanings is supported by a network of brain regions hosting a variety of spatial codes, partially overlapping with those recruited for navigation in physical space.

Introduction. The unit of continuous action for the formation of the underlying layer is designed to increase labor productivity in the construction of roads and other objects, for the construction of which it is necessary to remove the upper layer of soil. The working bodies of the unit are buckets that cut and transport soil. To balance these forces and moments in the transverse-vertical plane, relative to the direction of movement of the buckets, support bars with support hydraulic cylinders are used. To create and regulate the pressure in the support hydraulic cylinders, two hydraulic pneumatic accumulators for controlling the supporting strips are installed on the power device. Part of the forces and moments through the supporting strips, support hydraulic cylinders, the frame of the working part of the unit is transmitted to the energy device that serves to drive the unit. During the operation of the unit, the resistance of the soil to cutting changes continuously. Therefore, the forces and moments transmitted to the energy device change. During operation, the stability of the rectilinear course of the unit is necessary. To ensure the stability of the movement of buckets and the direction of movement of the unit, you should first consider the process of filling the buckets with soil. The method of research. On the basis of the constructive layout, the number of buckets filled with soil was revealed. Suppose the filling of buckets with soil occurs gradually and evenly. Hence, an increase in the load on the right and left support bar was revealed by each subsequent bucket as it is filled. By adding the vertical forces, the value and position of the total load on the supporting bars are determined. The resistance to the movement of the left and right wheels of the working part of the unit, due to the load from the buckets to the supporting strips, the gravity of the raised soil, the gravity of the working part of the unit, is determined. The total horizontal force, the impact of soil on the buckets, directed along the course of the unit, was revealed. The method of calculating the position of the thrust vector of the energy device is given.Results. On the basis of the developed technique, the diameters of the support hydraulic cylinders and the nominal pressure in the hydraulic pneumatic accumulators of the control of the right and left support strips were determined. A constructive layout of the hinged energy device and a system for automatic adjustment of the position of the thrust vector of the energy device depending on the properties of the developed soil is proposed.Conclusion. On the basis of theoretical studies, the diameters of the support hydraulic cylinders and the nominal pressure in the hydraulic pneumatic accumulators of the control of the right and left support strips were calculated. An example of calculating the position of the thrust vector of an energy device is given. The constructive arrangement of the system of automatic adjustment of the position of the thrust vector of the energy device depending on the properties of the developed soil and the general layout of the energy device is proposed. The conducted theoretical studies allow to ensure the stability of the movement of buckets and the direction of movement of the continuous unit for the formation of the underlying layer of roads.

Introduction. Neurofunctional state is an essential criterion in assessing the quality of the regulatory mechanisms of autonomic and somatic functions that determine the prognosis and course of vibration disease associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). Objective of the study is to identify neurophysiological signs of changes in the functional state of the nervous system in patients with vibration disease caused by the combined effects of local and general vibration (VD com.) in combination with DM2. Materials and Methods. The group I included (n = 33) - VD com. patients, group II - 30 cases with VD com., burdened with DM2. We used neuroenergy mapping (NEM), registration of somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP). Statistica software was used for statistical processing. Results. Analysis of the severity of changes in DC-potential level in both groups established a statistically significant predominance of persons with an increased average DC-potential level. In group II, when compared with group I, there was an increase in the latency of components N9, N10, N11, N13, N18, N20, N25, N30, bipolar DC-potential level Cz-Pz, local DC-potential level in the central lead of the right hemisphere, decrease in DC-potential level in the central parietal region, bipolar pote ntials Fpz -Ts, Cz-Td, Pz-Oz. As a result of discriminant analysis, the following signs were obtained: indices of the latent period of the peak N13, the duration of the interpeak interval N10-N13, DC-potential level of the central parietal, right central, frontal right, frontal central leads. Discussion. The presence of DM2 in VD com. patients accompanied by disturbances in the neurofunctional state caused by a slowdown in the passage of an afferent impulse at the peripheral and central levels, a decrease in energy exchange in the frontal, central-parietal regions with its increase in the occipital, temporal parts of both hemispheres. Conclusion. Neurophysiological signs of changes in the functional state of the nervous system in VD com. patients with DM2 are a decrease in DC-potential level in the parietal central, frontal central, an increase in the latent period of the peak N13, the duration of the inter-peak interval N10-N13, DC-potential level in the central and frontal regions of the right hemisphere of the brain.

In treating insomnia patients, acupuncturists who are not always in their clinics trust their patients to their assistants but because of their assistants limited knowledge, their assistants can not determine the right acupoints. Therefore, an application that able to store their knowledge about insomnia disease treatment is needed so that their assistants can handle the patients like they do.In this research, an expert system application using certainty factor method to determine the acupoint in dealing with insomnia disease was built. This research used certainty factor to accommodate uncertainty about symptoms and rules. The mechanism of certainty factor on symptoms used a measure of increased belief (MB) and a measure of increased disbelief (MD).The built expert system resulted acupoints based on symptoms experienced by insomnia patients. Accuracy value produced by the system that used certainty factor for determining acupoint dealing with insomnia is 0.933. It showed that the acupoint produced by the system is 93.3% relevant according acupuncturist expertise in treating insomnia patients.

In various ciliated epithelia one can distinguish either symplectic, antiplectic, dexioplectic, or laeoplectic metachronal waves, according to whether the effective beat of their cilia is with, against, to the right of, or to the left of, the direction of movement of the waves. In a given epithelium the relation between the direction of the waves and the direction of beat is constant. Symplectic waves are probably associated with the transport of large particles, or viscous masses of mucus; antiplectic and diaplectic waves are better suited for creating water currents. It is unusual to find both dexioplectic and laeoplectic waves in the same animal; indeed, it is the rule for only one of these two types of metachronism to occur throughout a given systematic group. Dexioplectic waves are found in Protochordata, primitive Spiralia, the velum of Eulamellibranchiata, Phoronidea, Brachiopoda, Bdelloidea, and Melicertida; laeoplectic waves are found in Chaetopterus, Mollusca generally, Bryozoa, and Ploima. The incidence of dexioplectic and laeoplectic metachronism is not influenced by morphological reversals of symmetry such as the situs inversus. The relation between the direction of beat and the direction of the waves is therefore probably determined by cytological or stereochemical factors, rather than by gross morphology.
