The study was designed to examine whether practice of Yoga has a positive effect on the mental health and emotional maturity of visually challenged students. The sample consisted of 20 visually challenged students drawn purposively from a Govt. School for the Blind. The main objective of the study was to see the effect of yoga on mental health and emotional maturity of visually challenged students. A Yoga training programme was designed and the subjects were exposed to it for a period of four weeks. The effects of yoga on mental health of visually challenged students were measured by administering Singh & Gupta’s Mental Health battery whereas effects on emotional maturity were obtained by applying Singh and Bhargava’s Emotional Maturity Scale. The data was analyzed in terms of mean, S.D and t-test. The results indicate that on the whole the level of mental health and emotional maturity of visually challenged students improves after the practice of yoga. Significance differences were found between mean gain scores on all the dimensions of Mental health Battery and Emotional Maturity Scale. Hence, it can be concluded that yoga puts a positive effect on the mental health and emotional maturity of the practitioners. The study has its implications for school administrators, policy makers, parents, teachers, community leaders, and rehabilitation workers.

This study investigates the impact of income inequality on household carbon emissions in China using nationwide micro panel data. The effect is positive—households in counties with greater income inequality emit more—and remarkably robust to a battery of robustness checks. We also explore the roles that consumption patterns, time preference, and mental health play in the relationship between income inequality and household carbon emissions. The findings suggest that the change in consumption patterns caused by income inequality may be an important reason for the positive effect of inequality on household carbon emissions and that a lower time preference for consumption and improved mental health can mitigate the positive effect of income inequality on household carbon emissions. Furthermore, substantial differences are found among households at different income levels and households with heads of different ages. The findings of this study provide important insights for policy makers to reduce both inequality and emissions.

Research  from a variety of scientific fields suggests that physical activity in nature and feelings of connection to nature enhance psychological health and well-beings. The main purpose of this research was to find out mental health and emotional maturity among green and non-green environment. The total sample consisted of 120 students out of which 60 green and 60 non-green environment were selected purposively, non-probability sampling technique, from Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar with age group of 20-24 years, average age group of 22 years. Ex post facto research design used in following study i.e. without previous intervention. Mental health was measured for the selected subjects using the questionnaire developed by Dr. (Smt) Kamlesh Sharma and Emotional Maturity Scale by Dr. Yashvir  Singh and Dr. Mahesh Bhargav. The obtained data was analyzed t-test to know the mean difference between green and non-green environment and Karl Pearson correlation method was used to know the relation between emotional maturity and mental health variables. Here t-test result revealed that there is a significant difference in emotional maturity and mental health at 0.05 level. t-test statistical method used as to examine the significance of hypothesis. Also a  positive correlation was observed between mental health and emotional maturity. As per above result it shows that green environment highly impacts our overall dimensions of life i.e. physical, mental, emotional as well as spiritual health.

Introduction This study aims to determine the guidelines for the design of a social skills training programme for people with schizophrenia using virtual reality. Methods This article encompasses two studies: Study 1, a systematic review of five articles indexed in the databases B-on, PubMed, Clinical trials and Cochrane Library (2010–2020); Study 2, a focus group of occupational therapists trained in mental health and multimedia professionals, in which they discussed the outline of such a programme. Results A set of guidelines were identified as central and consensual which should be included in the programme. It must have multilevel logic and gradual learning, with simulations of everyday situations, in which it is possible to practise the skills of conversation and communication. Virtual reality provides people with schizophrenia with unlimited opportunities, enhancing a personalized intervention. Conclusion Social skills training could be part of the treatment for people with schizophrenia, and virtual reality is a promising tool to complement traditional training, although still little implemented in mental health services. Occupational therapists have a prominent role in the development and application of this because of their knowledge of activity analysis and their ability to facilitate the generalization of skills in different contexts.

Aim: The objective of this paper is to examine the level of psychiatric symptoms and associated factors among Thai migrants from the southernmost Thai provinces of Pattani, Yala, and Narithiwat who are working in Malaysia. Comparisons will be made with the sending population in the southernmost provinces of Thailand. Methods: Data are drawn from survey and in-depth interviews with Thai migrants who are working in Malaysia. Comparisons are made with a probability sample of working age adults in Thailand. The twenty item Self Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ) was the measure of mental health. Results: The study found that the migrants, on average, have normal levels of psychiatric symptoms. However, although about 24% of migrants reported more eight or more symptoms that may indicate a need for evaluation. There are many stressors in their lives including distance from families, reduced social support, legal matters surrounding immigration, and discrimination/exploitation of migrant groups. Conclusion: The study highlights the need for policy makers and non-governmental organizations to give attention to migrants’ mental health, well-being and sustainable livelihoods.

Organisations have shifted from traditional beliefs to the incorporation of agile methods for attaining high levels of performance through its established goals and objectives. Emotional intelligence (EI) is envisaged to contribute to the achievement of higher levels of performance. With the current global economic crisis and the pandemic situation, it has become very critical to achieve higher levels of performance with limited resources. Countries confront challenges by way of attaining a higher level of emotional maturity and realisation in order to sail through the current economic storm. The Administrative and Diplomatic Officers (ADOs) are seen to shoulder a heavy responsibility in materialising this shift. This study analyses the impact of EI on organisational performance (OP) in the Malaysian public sector. A survey instrumentation was distributed to 700 ADOs based in Putrajaya, within five selected ministries, obtaining 375 valid responses. The results attained, analysed using the SMART-PLS method, affirm the significant positive effect of EI on OP, suggesting the need for an increase in the EI of civil servants by including EI indicators and measures in the areas of recruitment, learning and development, workforce planning, succession planning, and organisational development. EI should actively be adopted to increase awareness and maturity, which would thus enable civil servants to embrace the current challenging agile environment.

What are the short- and long-term consequences of tests on the lives of individuals? What are the motivating factors behind the administration of language tests? What are the politics of the tests? These kinds of questions logically arise when the examination of testing includes a concern with the use of tests by educational institutions, policy makers, and society at large. Focusing primarily on the misuse of tests, this volume chronicles both intended and unintended test consequences.

Background/Context The Supreme Court's June 2007 decision on the Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District No.1 (PICS) provides an important context for school districts and educational policy makers as they consider the role of race in school assignment. The PICS decision has been described as essentially “undoing” the 1954 Supreme Court decision in the Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka case that ended de jure racial segregation. Purpose/Objective/Research Question/Focus of Study Given the rhetoric that education in the United States is the “great equalizer,” this conceptual article considers how the PICS decisions impact notions of educational equity and self-determination for African Americans. Research Design This article provides a conceptual analysis of the PICS decision and educational equity. Conclusions/Recommendations The author recommends that despite the PICS decision, school administrators and policy makers continue to consider how race impacts school assignment to ensure that public schools are democratic institutions that are racially and educationally equitable.
