Since Independence, UEE has been solitary imperative goal of educational progress in India. To achieve UEE, Government of India has initiated numerous programmes but it is sad that dropout rate is not declined. A foremost percentage of the dropouts comprises of socially underprivileged children. Most of the children have to effort very hard to earn their livelihood, and reside in slums. Recent approaches in the education technology like applications of multimedia by computer technology prove to cater to the various requirements of students in the educational system. Multimedia is a sole medium with structures of quality, audio-visual recording, and sound effects. Using Multimedia Approach, in teaching-learning process, is a perceptual knowledge, and as outcome students acquires the concepts and skills effectively. The present study was carried out with the objective to study the effect of the multi-media approach in relation to traditional approach in fostering selected Mathematics Competencies among Slum Students. The sample of the study was 40 slum students of standard six. The pre-posttest experimental design was followed for the present research study. The treatment for the Experimental group was given by the investigator for 40 sessions specically to foster Mathematics Competencies using a specially designed instructional material. Analysis of the results revealed, that Multi-Media Approach was signicantly more effective than of the traditional approach in fostering selected Mathematics Competencies among Slum students. Educational implications of the study were discussed in the study

Abstract Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan perangkat materi pembelajaran untuk pengajaran sosiologi guna memotivasi siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian dan pengembangan guna menformulasi produk dan mengukur efektifitasnya melalui validasi dan pengujian ahli di bidangnya. Ada tiga tipe test yang digunakan yaitu, one to one, small group, dan field test yang menunjukkan bahwa desain materi tersebut efektif. Setelah melalui revisi, desain meteri pembelajaran Sosiologi dianggap bermanfaat dan dapat digunakan dalam proses belajar mengajar Kata Kunci: Perangkat pembelajaran, mata pelajaran Sosiologi, siswa Madrasah Aliyah Abstract [Tittle: The Development of Sosiology Instructional Material for The Students fo Islamic Senior High School] . The research aims at developing a set of instructional material for teaching Sociology in order to motivate the students. The researcher employed a research and developing method to formulate a product and to measure its effectiveness through validation and trial-out by the experts of content-material and material-design. There were three types of trial to test the design; one to one, small group, and field test. Based on the test result, it was found that students in average can achieve 84% of overall score which indicate that the designed material is effective. After being revised several times in each stage, the design of instructional material for Sociology subject is considered as beneficial and able to be used in the teaching learning process

Historical reenactment is becoming a top-tier teaching tool in the countries of Southern Europe. In Spain specifically, this discipline is experiencing a boom as a heritage education method, particularly in informal settings. This article is the outcome of a qualitative research study of the results obtained from one hundred and fifteen educators from historical reenactment groups. The study analyses the methods used by the exponents of this discipline to teach war in the Middle Ages, specifically in three Spanish castles dating from the 11th to the 12th centuries. It has made it possible to analyse how the educational discourses are organised in relation to Medieval war within military spaces from this period, and how historical reenactment is a coadjutant in the construction of teaching/learning spaces from a heritage education perspective.

Purpose This research applies a quasi-experimental research method to investigate the impact of an innovative resource titled “Accounting Exercise” (teaching intervention using physical movement and lyrics) on learning motivation and performance on a group of students enrolled in a first-year undergraduate accounting course in Japan. Design/methodology/approach Five classes were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (two classes) or a control group (three classes). In the experimental group, 90 students participated in a 15-min “Accounting Exercise” at the commencement of lectures over three consecutive weeks. The remaining 133 students assigned to the control group did not participate in the Accounting Exercise. Findings The findings indicate that the Accounting Exercise provided stimuli in maintaining students’ learning motivation. This finding is important for entry-level students where learning motivation has the potential to influence students’ future decisions on major areas of study and career choices. Originality/value This finding is important for entry-level students where future career options are decided. This effect is also believed to contribute to reducing the declining numbers of students in accounting majors.

This study aimed to find out whether teaching-learning reading comprehension using Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) would get better results than using Direct Instruction approach. The research used a quantitative method. The population of the research was students from the Islamic University of Kalimantan Muhammad Arsyad Al-Banjari. The researcher used cluster random sampling to select two sample groups, the control group and the experimental group. The control group with 25 students was the class that continued to use the Direct Instruction approach. The experimental group, with 20 students, was the class tested using the CTL approach. The test was a written test with five multiple choice questions plus an essay test. The test was used to obtain the data. The students’ scores were the data for the study of reading comprehension comparing CTL and Direct Instruction. Based on the results of the study, the researcher found that CTL was more effective than Direct Instruction because the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted so that CTL was found to be better for teaching reading skills. CTL encourages materials that are related to the students’ surrounding so that it helps them use English related to their daily activities.

Technology can be a powerful tool for transforming learning. To be a successful teacher one should be learner always and should have the mind to comprehend and design new methodologies in their transaction process. ELearning courseware is an effective model of teaching and learning framework that can enhance academic achievement of students. In this research, E-Learning courseware is developed for B.Ed curriculum and the effectiveness of E-Learning courseware is studied on academic achievement of Prospective teachers studying B.Ed course. 80 students studying B.Ed. course are selected as sample by convenient sampling method. 40 of which are assigned in the experimental group and 40 in the control group. Experimental Group is subjected to E-Learning courseware and the Control group is subjected to Conventional method of teaching, Pre-test – Post Test non-equivalent groups design is used for the study. Achievement test developed and validated by the researcher is administered to measure the academic achievement of the prospective teachers as pre-test and post-test. Effectiveness of E-Learning courseware is studied on academic achievement of Prospective teachers studying B.Ed course. In the analysis of data, t-test and descriptive analysis were used. Results showed that there is significant effect of ELearning courseware in enhancing the academic achievement of Prospective Teachers. This research opens new avenues in teaching learning process which can empower students.

This study examines the results obtained by using the traditional and the cognitive approach to teaching phrasal verbs. The control group was taught phrasal verbs using the traditional way i.e. by providing a direct translation into Serbian. In the experimental group the author presented the verbs by explaining the meanings of the very particles and the meanings they develop. Both groups were given a test immediately after they received input. They were also tested on the meanings of untaught phrasal verbs three weeks later. Utilising the cognitive approach helped the students learn the phrasal verbs more successfully. The students who knew various meanings of the particles were able to understand the meanings of the whole phrasal verbs better. The experimental group was able to predict the meanings of the untaught phrasal verbs in the delayed test better than the control group.

This paper reports from a study where teachers and researchers collaborate on designing and validatingtopic-oriented teaching-learning sequences. In an iterative process, data about learning andteaching biological evolution are generated through continuous cycles of design, teaching, evaluation,and redesign. The study involved 180 Swedish students aged 11 – 16, and the overall learning aim was that the students should be able to use the theory of evolution as a tool when explaining the development of life on earth. The aim of this paper is to validate the students’ learning outcome, estimated as appropriation of scientific ways of reasoning in written answers. The students’ answers of questions are analysed before and after interventions (internal evaluation), and compared with the answers from a national sample (external evaluation). The students in the experimental group did develop their reasoning, and they attained the aim, to a greater extent than a national sample.

Indonesia International Work Camp (IIWC) is an international organization. The organization facilitates Indonesian course to foreign volunteers who conduct a voluntary project in Indonesia. The course started in 2009 up to now. If there is one lack from the course, it is because the course did not have any syllabus. This action research study has a main purpose to design an Indonesian speaking syllabus for IIWC foreign volunteers based on contextual field at a project site. This action research included a basic action research routine: look, think and act. An approach employed in this research is case study. Questionnaires, interviews, notes, a teaching journal, recordings, photographs and videos were taken during the course process. The population of this research is the IIWC foreign volunteers. The sample of this research is Yurie Takahashi, a Japanese foreign volunteer who was the only new foreign volunteer came in Indonesia at that time. She conducted a social international voluntary service in Indonesia. The major research participants are I as the Indonesian speaking instructor, and the foreign volunteer as the learner. The collected data is analyzed using a process of reflection and interpretation that is categorizing and coding. The findings are:  the syllabus for Indonesian speaking course, for IIWC foreign volunteers who conducted a project at the project site of Fatimatuzzahro orphanage Semarang central-Java Indonesia. The syllabus employs a learning centered approach. Then the program evaluation revealed the instructor’s teaching and attitudes from the learner’s perspective and the learner’s progresses after joining the course. Eventually, the teaching materials compilation was taught from the syllabus made to be a handout of the course which can support the teaching-learning processes later. It is suggested to other IIWC’s Indonesian speaking instructors who will teach foreign volunteers at the orphanage can look at the syllabus in advance, so that they can know starting points in surveying the existing situation. It is also suggested to other researchers to take the uninvestigated cases in this research regarding Indonesian listening and pronunciation problems which later can be contributed as well to knowledge of applied linguistics.

This chapter considers a traditional account of knowledge along with its indirect realist view of perception. On a traditional approach, perceptual knowledge is a special case of “justified true belief plus.” Such justification is alleged to come from the evidence of our senses. The chapter also compares a radically opposed, knowledge-first account, one that claims an important advantage: it is said to make room for reasons that can establish answers to our questions, enabling us to vouch for those answers. There is, however, a further alternative to consider. While better aligned with the tradition, this further alternative, as the chapter describes, still claims the same advantage as the radical knowledge-first approach.

Flip-GET has been developed with the objective of optimizing engineering practicals. The innovative element of this methodology is the use of serious games, as a complement to the flipped classroom method, in the teaching-learning process of engineering studies. This methodology uses serious games to take advantage of the capacity of motivation that video games have for the current generation of students, who have been involved with digital content, software, and electronic devices. This methodology has been evaluated using the method of case studies and by an experimental evaluation carried out in different stages, each of which has been developed during an academic course. In the experimental evaluation of the methodology, the control group carried out the practicals dividing the students into subgroups, without using the Flip-GET methodology, while the experimental group performed them with the methodology.
