Background: The low ability of students in achieving narrative text vocabulary. Objective: To discover whether understudies who are instructed utilizing sound visuals have superior lexicon accomplishment than understudies who are instructed utilizing routine media in the tenth grade of SMK N 5 Padang. Methods: This study uses a true experimental quantitative design method. The research design is a two-group pretest-posttest design. In this study, the population is class X SMK N 5 Padang. Results: Shows that students taught by Audio Visual have better vocabulary achievement in Narrative text than students taught by Conventional Media. in class X SMK N 5 Padang. Conclusion: The employment of audiovisual media in the teaching of vocabulary mastery was extremely effective when compared to traditional media.

This study is revealed based on the observation on the tenth grade of SMKN 3 Cimahi.  The subjects of this study consisted of 34 students. The purpose of this study was to improve the students’ reading comprehension using Cooperative Integrated and Reading Composition Method. The research design was Classroom Action Research (CAR) which following Arikunto model. It is used to obtain the results of qualitative data using two cycles described through planning, implementing, observation, and reflection on each cycle. The result of the study showed that there was a development on the students’ reading comprehension. It could be seen from the result of the test. The Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM) of English lesson was 70 (seventy).  The students mean score in the first test was 50,  in the first post test the mean score was 65, and in the second post test the mean score was 85. In addition there were 3 students (8.8%) who passed KKM on pre test. In the first pretest there were 9 students (29.41%) who passed KKM. In the second pretest there were 31 students (91.18%) who passed KKM. Then, from the result of observation and interview it showed the positive responses from the students. The students can be more active and improve their ideas. The researchers conclude that Cooperative Integrated and Reading Composition method could improve students’ reading comprehension. Keywords:  Reading Comprehension, Cooperative Integrated and Reading Composition, Narrative Text, CAR

This research deals with an error analysis. The objectives of the study are (1) to identify and classify the kinds of regular and irregular verbs error find in recount, narrative, procedure, and descriptive writing by the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Tanjungbalai, (2) to know the most dominant text getting regular and irregular verbs error by the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Tanjungbalai, (3) to find out the causes of regular and irregular verbs error in recount, narrative, procedure, and descriptive writing by the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Tanjungbalai. The research design that was used in this study is descriptive research. The sources of data were taken from the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Tanjungbalai which consists of 40 students who were chosen by taking the X-2 class as the sample. In this research, the writing text was used as collecting data. The result of the analysis shows that: (1) the errors of regular and irregular verbs in recount, narrative, procedure, and descriptive writing made by the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Tanjungbalai were 112 occurrences of all errors. The most dominant text getting regular and irregular verbs was narrative text occurred 40 cases (10 regular verbs and 30 irregular) or (36%), it was followed by recount text occurred 36 cases (7 regular verbs and 29 irregular verbs) or (32%) then the descriptive text occurred 26 cases (7 regular verbs and 19 irregular verbs) or (23%) and the last was Procedure text occurred 10 cases (2 regular verbs and 8 irregular verbs) or (8%).

This study attempts to discover the effect of applying Personal Experiences Strategy on students’ achievement in writing narrative text. It was conducted by using experimental research design. The population of this research was the tenth (X) grade students of SMA N 6 Padangsidimpuan  which consists of 10 parallel classes with the total number of students is 64. The samples of this research were taken by random sampling through lottery technique. The result was class X1 consisted of 32 students became the experimental group and class X2 consisted of 32 students became the control group. The experimental group was taught by Personal Experiences Strategy while the control group was taught by using Big group work strategy. The instrument was used to collect the data was writing narrative text. After the data were analyzed, it was found that the value of t-observed was 4.25 with the degree of freedom (df) = 62 at the level significance 0.05. it means that t-observed was higher than t-table (4.25 > 1.997. The result of this study showed that teaching narrative text by using personal experiences strategy was higher than that by big group work. Keywords : Using Personal Experiences Strategy. This study aims at describing how the teachers teach reading comprehension of narrative text to the tenth grade students in Sibolangit and revealing the underlying reasons of why do they do that way. This study was conducted by using qualitative research design. The subject of this study were two english teachers who taught at tenth grade students of two SMA in Sibolangit they are : SMA Negeri  1 Sibolangit  and SMA RK Deli Murni Bandar Baru in academic year 2016/ 2017. The data were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman data analysis technique. The  technique of collecting the data was recorded from the classroom process in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text. The findings of the study show that most of teachers’ ways are not yet focusing on teaching reading comprehension but rather focusing teaching the knowledge of genre. The underlying reason of the teachers’ ways in teaching reading comprehension did not facilitate reading comprehension. It was due to the misperception of the concept of teaching reading comprehension.  Keywords : Teaching,Reading Comprehension,Narrative Text.

This study deals with the improving students’ achievement in reading narrative text by using reciprocal teaching. The research of this study was conducted by using action research. The subject of this study was the tenth grade students SMA Negeri 6 Medan. One class was taken as the subject, namely the students from X-5. There were 49 students, consisting of 22 male and 27 female. This research was done in two cycles; there was three meetings in cycle I and three meetings in cycle II. The instruments for collecting data were reading narrative text (25 items of multiple choice tests) teacher make test as quantitative data and interview sheet, observation sheet and diary notes as qualitative data. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students’ score for the treatment I was 61.79, for the treatment II was 72.24 and treatment III was 81.71. The data showed that the students’ score was rising in every treatment. The conclusion is that the use of reciprocal teaching method can improve students’ reading comprehension in narrative text. It suggested to English teacher to apply reciprocal teaching method in teaching reading comprehension. Key words: reading, narrative text, reciprocal teaching.

This research aims to develop Pop-Up Book as supplementary media to support the teaching of narrative texts and to evaluate whether or not the media are feasible to teach narrative texts to the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak. The media consisted of narrative texts with pop-up pictures. They were divided based on the structure of a narrative text. The materials were taken from the students’ textbook that the researcher has simplified. The procedures were adapted from ADDIE Model proposed by Branch and it used three phases, namely, Analyse, Design, and Develop. From analyse phase, it was found that the students needed interesting media that was visually attractive to engage them in the teaching learning process and to support the existing materials. The Design phase covered the aspects, which were the focus of the media, of the materials and the pictures for the media, and the structure of the media. The Development phase concerned the development of the essential parts of the media. According to the evaluation result, the media are considered feasible to be applied by the teachers to teach narrative text reading.

Some problems are faced by students in reading of English text. The interesting strategy is needed to teach them. Story Pyramid Strategyis one of strategies to teach reading comprehension. This strategy forces students to review and summarize the main points of a story. The research aimed at knowing the effectiveness of using story pyramid strategy in teaching  narrative text toward students’ reading comprehension was conducted in SMAN 1 Serang. The research design of this reseacrh was quasi experimental research with quantitative approach. The  research  finding  showed  that  Story Pyramid  Strategy  is  effective in  teaching  narrative  text  toward  students’ reading comprehension to Senior High School.

The present study aims at exams the effectiveness of small group discusssion in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text of the tenth -grade students of SMA NEGERI 1 WOLOWAE. Teaching reading comprehension is recommended in Senior High School because reading comprehension is very important. In competence based on curriculum, students are understanding to comprehending the conten of the text. The research is carried out through quantitative research with an experimental method because the researcher gives treatment in teaching writing. In conducting the research, the researcher uses one group pre-test-post-test design. The researcher gave pre-test before treatment and post-test after treatment to get the data. In this research, the researcher took twenty students as a sample. The result of the study shows that the score of pre-test was 61 while the mean score of post-test was 81.5 and the mean score of differentiate was 20.5. On the other side, it was found that the result of t-score is bigger than t-table (9,71 > 2,11) at the significant level of 0,05. Therefore, based on the hypothesis testing, we can conclude that the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted while the Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Based on the result, it can be concluded that the using small group discussion as a method is effective to increase students reading comprehension of the students’ of Senior High School, especially for the tenth grade of SMA NEGERI 1 WOLOWAE. Based on this findings, it is suggested, that the teacher should try to apply an interesting method.
