The purpose of this study was to evaluate a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) in a required music psychology course and to measure student outcomes and conduct reliability estimation for the Research Skill Development Questionnaire (RSDQ) and Undergraduate Research Student Self-Assessment (URSSA). Student researchers ( N = 33) completed the URSSA and RSDQ. We analyzed URSSA Likert-type items using descriptive statistics and performed content analysis on open-ended responses. Student researchers reported moderate improvement across three subscales of Thinking and Working Like a Scientist, Personal Gains, and Research Skills, and some change for Attitudes and Beliefs. A comparison of pretest and posttest RSDQ subscale scores showed no significant change in participants’ self-reported research knowledge, skills, or dispositions. URSSA and RSDQ subscales demonstrated strong internal consistency. Based on content analysis of URSSA open-ended responses, participants reported interest in graduate school, greater understanding of and confidence about research, and plans to use research in their career.

The interest of contemporary society in improving the quality of education is mainly reflected in the issue of educational results - competences - and their provision in the learning process. Introducing the 21st Century educational standards, the development of competencies required for teaching become more relevant.  International documents indicate that a teacher should have the ability to teach, effectively use technologies in learning, help students gain transversal competencies. The teacher should be able to participate in research, use innovation, reflect on his/her work, collaborate with colleagues and parents. It is the teacher’s duty to direct the student's individual development.Latvian legislation offers wide opportunities for a person employed in education (especially in vocational and education of interests) to become a teacher. It is possible to work as a teacher after attending a short professional development course in education theory. In that case, competences in education (and the right to work at a school) is certified by the B-course certificate after basic training (72 hours total). The goal of this study is to identify and characterize teacher’s competences in education as acquired by teachers during this course. Research methods are a content analysis of 210 questionnaires filled in by vocational education teachers after attending the course and content analysis of their self-assessment.  The results of the research show that teacher’s competences are only partially formed and incomplete. The attitude towards the needs of the student's personality is inappropriate, there is a desire for an authoritarian style.

The current dramatic context of COVID-19 has urged academics and practitioners to tackle the topic of the pandemic not only regarding its medical side but from the perspective of social sciences, accounting and accountability as well. In this sense, our paper moves from the pivotal work of Higgins and Walker (2012) and Merkl-Davies and Brennan (2017) and tries to trace the use and the extent of accounting communication by companies during the peculiar context of the pandemic. Considering the nature of the elements to be evaluated, we applied a manual content analysis, a more suitable technique than software to capture subjective and emotional elements. Among the main preliminary results of the paper, the volume and the importance of emotional content come to the surface, such as self-assessment and emotional tone. The paper confirms the important role of rhetorical analysis in understanding the quality and the meaning of the information provided by companies and contributes to the stream of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) studies on corporate reporting.

The purpose of this study is to determine the character of the soul in the novel Al-arwa<hu Al-Mutamarridah by using the theory of David Krech. The research method used is descriptive qualitative content analysis techniques. The results of this study describe that there are three findings of the classification of the emotion of love that occurred in Laylā in the novel Al-arwāhu Al-Mutamarridah by Khalil Gibran with the theme Maḍja‘u Al-ūarūsi. David Krech's theory is related to the literary psychology of emotions which is divided into four parts, namely basic emotions, emotions related to sensory stimulation, emotions related to self-assessment, and emotions related to others. This theory is appropriate to dissect the emotional classification of the main character Laylā in the novel Al-arwāhu Al-Mutamarridah by Khalil Gibran with the theme Maḍja‘u Al-ūarūsi. This shows that the classification of emotions has been detailed by Krech as evidenced by novel quotations so this research confirms the existence of Krech's thoughts about emotions.

Gestão do conhecimento. Aprendizagem organizacional. Autoavaliação institucional.   SEBRAE Corporate Education Systems: An Institutional Self-assessment Abstract This research evaluates the SEBRAE Corporate Education System (SEC) based on the perception of its managers. This is a qualitative and descriptive research using the case study strategy. Regarding the results, the information and knowledge dimension, work processes, curriculum and learning solutions stand out, pointing out that the strategies pointed out by the national UC are suitable. However, managers highlighted difficulties in meeting the demand of local diversity. It is assumed that institutional self-assessment, as a systematic tool for collecting relevant information, is a tool that helps to improve the actions of the institution's corporate university, helps in discerning the value or the management’s merit of the Corporate Education System. Keywords: Corporate university. Corporate education system. Knowledge management. Organizational learning. Institutional self-evaluation.

The role of mobile devices in learning processes is growing rapidly and it is imperative to assess the effect of this technology. This paper explores the experience of healthcare professional students with regard to the educational impacts of mobile learning. We conducted a qualitative study using a conventional qualitative content analysis based on Graneheim and Lundman (2004) method to collect and analyze the experiences of 23 healthcare professional students. Two themes, each with subthemes, emerged from the findings: (1) perceived benefit in learning process, and (2) reflective self-assessment. The results revealed that mobile learning has a positive impact on both the process and the outcome of learning in healthcare professional students. Therefore, creating a supportive condition to promote mobile learning is recommended.

While the text-matching tool, Turnitin®, has traditionally been used to deter and detect plagiarism, more recently, instructors have started to use this tool for formative self-assessment. To describe Turnitin®’s use in practice and to explore perceptions of this tool, we surveyed 940 students, teaching assistants, and instructors at a Canadian university. Our findings indicate that Turnitin® was more commonly used for plagiarism detection than for formative self-assessment. The majority of respondents had positive views of Turnitin®, and 70% of students stated that they had no concerns about using this tool. Despite these positive findings, content analysis of open-ended responses indicate that students experience increased anxiety of being falsely accused of plagiarism and have concerns about their work being stored in the Turnitin® database. Our findings lead us to conclude that there is a need for more information and improved communication about Turnitin® for all three groups.

BACKGROUND In order to better direct assessments and interventions towards the general population during the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and future crises with societal restrictions, data on the types of practical and emotional problems people are suffering from are needed. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to examine what types of practical and emotional problems the general population is suffering from during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to construct an empirically derived inventory based on the findings. METHODS A total of 396 participants from the general public, with practical and/or emotional problems, accessed a self-guided digital problem-solving intervention for a period of one week to report and solve problems they experienced. Prior to accessing the intervention, participants completed a short self-assessment regarding symptoms of depression and anxiety. Content analysis was used to account for the types of problems participants reported. A set of items for an inventory was later proposed based on the problem categories derived from the analysis. RESULTS A majority of participants had either clinically relevant symptoms of depression or anxiety. The problems reported were categorized as 13 distinct types of problems. The most common problem was difficulties managing daily activities. Based on the categories, a 13-items inventory was proposed. CONCLUSIONS The 13 types of problems, and the proposed inventory, could be valuable when composing assessments and interventions for the general population during the ongoing pandemic or similar crises with societal restrictions. The most common problem was of practical nature, indicating the importance of including examples of such problems within assessments and interventions. CLINICALTRIAL This article does not report results of a health care intervention, but was nevertheless retrospectively registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (ID: NCT04677270).

We conducted a content analysis of 34 statements of interest submitted by applicants applying for admission to an education leadership preparation program. The purpose of the analysis was to understand their orientations toward social justice. Using Kumashiro's (2000) and Apple's (2001) discussions of antioppressive education, we identified three practices in the candidates’ treatment of the writing prompt concerning leadership related to Othering: ignoring, marginalizing, and mentioning. The fourth practice—embodying, or evidencing through practice, a social justice orientation—we identified in statements submitted by a few applicants ( n = 7). This article centers on the analysis of the applications of these seven candidates through the metaphor needle in a haystack. Through conducting a secondary-level analysis to extrapolate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions of critical literacy and elicit our collective perceptions of what constitutes social justice leadership, we found the social justice orientations—“or needles”—for which we searched. This self-reflexive approach to research reflects the model of program evaluation that we are developing called self-assessment for equity. We provide recommendations for faculty interested in improving their program's capacity to identify, prepare, and sustain social justice leadership.
