Home-work (HW) in the putting-out system (POS)-based industry is the real proof of global capitalism existence in domestic space. It utilizes house resources and manipulates the domestic area to keep production costs low in order to compete in the global market. POS and HW become paradoxical as they are widely employed and categorized as strategic commodity production, market their products to the global market, and involve certain skills, creativity and technology. Nevertheless, the facts are obscured from public eyes. Efforts to uncover the obscured facts have been done through POS and HW transformation strategies, which are described in this paper. The paper aims at promoting POS and HW into public areas. The data used were gathered through participatory action research on batik industry based on "putting-out" system in cluster batik in Central Java from gender perspectives. The transformation model was used to promote POS and HW and to seek recognition of the facts that were based on system advantages and capacity enhancement of home-workers while enhancing product values through “fair trade” market. The implemented model has four components, namely: 1) development of innovation and technology that focused on product development, production, and marketing on the alternative market; 2) innovation and technological transfer in product development for better value chain and value added; 3) engineering and strengthening of production institutionalization, which is based on POS clusters; 4) engineering and strengthening of marketing institutionalization of alternative market; and 5) development and strengthening of vocal points that are related to and in support of the implementation. This model gave out positive impact on supporting the implementation of POS and POS roles and promoting this reality. As a model, however, this transformation model needed to be developed that it might be disseminated to a larger scale.

This paper aims to analyze the economic dimension and environmental impact of intra-EU value-added generation linked to global value chains (GVCs) through input-output analysis. For this purpose, information has been collected from TiVA (Trade in Value Added, OECD) and Eora databases for the years 2005 and 2015. From an economic perspective, the results point to a strengthening of the value-added generated within Factory Europe. From an environmental perspective, all EU28 members have reduced their exports-related impacts in intensity-emissions terms, but not all of them in the same degree. An approach to the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) has also been carried out through a panel data model. The results show a positive impact of the participation in intra-EU value chain (Factory Europe) on CO2 emissions per capita. Further, an inverted U-shaped curve for CO2 emissions is found for the period 2005–15. In this sense, European economies with lower development levels (many Eastern and Southern countries) seem to be still on the rising segment of the curve, while the more developed ones seem to be on the decreasing segment. These results highlight the need to design global monitoring and prevention mechanisms to tackle growing environmental challenges and the need to incorporate specific actions associated with the GVCs activity.

The fresh-cut apple industry has recently become established in North America. The future looks very bright for this value-added fruit product, however its growth requires improvements in quality and reduction of production costs. The existing industry has grown from concept to reality in response to research activities in anti-browning dips, package technology, sensory analysis, postharvest physiology, postharvest pathology and food microbiology. Several examples of how these critical research inputs have impacted and continue to impact on the industry practice are discussed. The next generation of questions and challenges posed by the industry will require some new inputs. Research in several disciplines will be need accessed to resolve the emerging issues. Traditional breeding effort and/or molecular technologies will be needed to provide non-browning fruit, fruit with better processing characteristics such as small cores to reduce waste and improved flavour and nutrition retention after cutting. With new cultivars, further work will be required to understand the commercial handling of each, including selection of harvest maturity and optimization of storage protocols. Also, pre-harvest factors such as phosphorus nutrition will need to be investigated further in terms of their effects on fruit tissue and membrane stability. Management of fungal pathogens is a key issue that needs to be studied from the field through storage and after cutting and packaging of the sliced fruit. The very nature of fresh-cut fruit has and continues to require a coordinated multi-disciplinary research strategy. Key words: Value-chain, value-added, apples, fresh-cut, integrated research

Abstract Objective: The aim of this paper is to understand a production system of a forging and presses structure of a centenary factory in terms of a cultural change on the management approach. Methodology: The study was focused on many aspects such as the pieces production lead time, a time study of the setups, the Overall Equipment Effectiveness determination for the Computer Numeric Control machinery and an analysis of the production cells operational flow. Findings: For the aspects that were analysed during the study, the problems are identified, and the root causes determined. At the end of the assessment stage Lean tools and concepts for fixing the problems were proposed, like new rules for production planning, setups procedures, 5S toll usage and a Lean implementation plan that is adapted to the company. Value Added: The high industrial competitivity has dictated the development for this sector that – allied with the inconstant and unstable economic environment – makes the companies very vulnerable and highly dependent of the global market. This is a concern of special relevance for the Small and Medium Size companies that are increasingly adopting Lean solutions to continuously improve their operational value chain and the management approach, for a more systemic way of thinking. Recommendations: For some of the solutions an impact study with their implementation was made. An analysis of the success factors proposed in the literature that were verified during the assessment stage of the case study was performed as well.

Cocoa is one of Indonesia’s plantation commodity that is important for the national economy. Cocoa plays a role in encouraging regional development and agro-industry. The purpose of this study was to find out the cocoa value chain in Indonesia and find out the impact of the downstream cocoa processing industry in Indonesia. The method used is literature study. The results of the analysis show that the downstreaming of the cocoa processing industry has a positive impact on Indonesia, the benefits of which are getting value added of raw material products, strengthening industrial structures, providing employment, attracting investors, and providing business opportunities in Indonesia.

This study aims to identify and analyze the data and information to determine the local featured products through the aspects of value-added, market expansion and production technology. The location is the town of Magelang in which there are many small and medium industries with a wide range of their products. The analytical tools used include common analytical technique used to determine a featured product. They are scoring, value chain and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The result of the study shows that the main criteria for weighting the featured products are competitive advantage, stakeholders' acceptance and societal benefits. Through all three criteria, there are three main local featured products becoming the. They are getuk (the result of processed cassava), kerupuk tahu (tofu crackers) and ceriping ketela (cassava crackers). Furthermore, through a comparative analysis of the criteria, it can be concluded that the product getuk can be considered as the Regional Industry Core Competence based featured product from Magelang.Keywords: Analytical Hierarchy Proces, Regional Product, Competitiveness

<p><em>This study aimed to analyze the value chain mapping, governance, improvement of value chain and marketing margins cassava in Pati regency. The basic method used  descriptive analytical research. The method of determining the location of the research method and the purposive sampling method is done by snowball sampling with 18 respondents. The results showed there are three models of the value chain by five actors, namely farmers, penebas, grinders, realtor, and collectors flour. Value-added activities conducted on cassava farmers, grinders and collectors. While penebas and brokers act as a liaison between value chain actors. Governance cassava value chain is analyzed through three approaches namely coordination structures, rules and regulations, and provider of information and services. The increase in the value chain are identified in several aspects of increase of processes, products, and functions. Enhanced functions effectively needs to be done because it will produce a positive impact on the actors of the value chain. Grinder has a marketing margin of RP 3300 / kg, meaning that most large margin than other players because it has many activities ranging from wet to cassava starch that have added value. While the perpetrators of broker only has a margin of RP 20 / kg for his activities only as an intermediary without any added value from the starch itself.</em></p>

In order to survive in today’s highly competitive global market, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have had to transition from sequential to concurrent product development, which significantly shortens development cycles, reduces costs, and ensures high product quality. Despite its many benefits, concurrent product development is still based on detailed upfront planning and cannot address the challenges related to today’s ever-growing uncertainty, constantly changing environment, and unstable requirements. A potential solution to this problem could be in more flexible and value-driven agile project management (APM) approaches, typical of software development. In this paper, we propose a new product development model specifically appropriate for SMEs that combines concurrent product development principles with APM elements. It is designed as a loop of five repetitive steps (macroplan, microplan, iteration activities, review, and retrospective) that are being executed within individual concurrent development loops. The application of the model is presented on a real case example of process development and small batch manufacture of a complex wiring harness. The study reveals many benefits of the proposed model, such as improved communication, faster detection of discrepancies, more effective problem solving, and greater flexibility. A positive impact on project success is also observed.

The fish sector is considered an important  component of the economies of  many countries in the  world  including Arab countries . This work is considered as the  first  attempt to study value  chain for fish in Iraq. The objective of  this  study is  to identify the main problems and  constraints  facing    different  channels  or  links  the  value  chain of  fish, and  to analyse  revenue, production costs, and to  calculate some  quantitative  indicators  like  value  added . The results  showed  that  average  value  added  of  the  different  links are amount: 22.13dinars/kg, 1007.7 dinar/kg, 242.9 dinar/kg and 1023.5 dinars/kg from each links hatcheries, producers, wholesalers and  retailers , the  results also showed  that  the share  of  different  links from value chain  for average value  additionrs  as  follows : 0.96% for  hatcheries link , 43.8% for producer link , 10.6% for  wholesalers  link and 44.6%  for  retailers  link. While  cages producers  added  68.5%  from average  value  added  it is amount  2796. 9 dinar/ kg on level techniques  of  floating cages . The study also identifis the main challenges and  problems  facing  each link in chain  value  and  forward  the  suitable  solution  and  recommendation  for  government  Authorities and private sector  in  order  to  increase the  efficiency of  fish  in  Iraq .

Collaborative product development (CPD) has become an imperative for companies to strengthen their niche values and remain competitive in the global market. However, most scholars may lack knowledge of deploying CPD in current industrial settings, and their research efforts may thus fail to fulfill practical needs. This paper presents a series of empirical case studies on distributed product development in Asia-Pacific Region. Engineering collaborations among brand-owner, manufacturer, and supplier in six product design chains (desktop PC, IC substrate, LCD monitor, bicycle, mold design, and CPU cooler) are under investigation. A systematic approach is developed that categorizes CPD into three modes based on the number of engineering BOM items and the difficulty of modularization in product design. It provides a preliminary but structured template for CPD deployment by characterizing the implications and software features of each mode. The cases also reveal values which CPD creates for the downstream supplier of a global value chain and new IT technologies enabling the collaboration process. This work is one of the early studies that analyze collaborative product development from the perspective of a manufacturer. The findings complement and corroborate theoretical studies in related research.

The results also showed that  the share of different links from value chain for average total value additionrs as follows: 0.73% for  hatcheries link, 66.7% for producer link , 3.6% for wholesalers link, and 28.9%  for retailers link. While cages producers added 65.5% from average value added it is amount to  2912. 7 dinar/ kg; on the level techniques cages floating. The study also identifis the main  challenges and problems facing each link in chain value and forward the suitable solution  and recommendation for government authorities and private sector in order to increase the  efficiency of  fish  in  Iraq.
