The research aims to identify the extent to which minorities depend on social networking sites to introduce their issues and to know the extent to which minorities follow these sites and to identify the most important sites they rely on and the extent of their trust in them and to know the effects resulting from their dependence on these sites after these sites have become one of the most important promotional means for what It is characterized by the ease of communication and creating a public space for discussion and formation of views. This research is a descriptive research that adopted the survey method. The research tools are observation, interview, and questionnaire that were used to collect data for the field study. The research sample is a simple random sample from the total community of minorities located within the geographical area of Nineveh Governorate. The research concluded with a set of results, most notably: the respondents’ reliance on social networking sites to get acquainted with the news of the sect to which they belong. Follow-up on social networking sites, and the search results showed the side of the terms closest to the respondent for the category (components) and then (minorities).

This study investigates the perception and use of social networking sites among undergraduate students in Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The main purpose of the study is ascertained the popularly used SNS, the purpose of using the SNSs, the perception of students towards SNSs and identity the impact of the use of SNSs by the undergraduate students. The study adopted descriptive research. The population of the study is 300 registered undergraduate students of Niger Delta University Library. Questionnaire was used to collected data. The result shows that Facebook, Google and WhatsApp are the popularly used social networking sites. Social relation, academic learning activities, sharing of information, etc. are the purpose of using social networking sites. The findings also revealed positive perception towards the use of social networking sites and, positive impact of using social networking sites. Arising from the findings some recommendations were made.

Social Media is an important tool for sharing information and communication among the people. Mobile Applications enable these social networking sites (SNS) to send and receive info-content to the target audience. Especially, University students in the country today use SNS extensively for information and entertainment needs. Social media is playing a crucial role in social and political awareness for inclusive development. The study focuses on how social networking apps help in fulfilling the social needs of youth? What are the effects of social media on studies of university students? How do political parties use SNS apps for youth? And how mobile apps are contributing to the Digital India movement? A survey method was used for quantitative research methodology with a stratified random sampling of 100 university students of two state university of Haryana. The study reveals that students consider mobile apps help in socially connected with well known, to whom they are meeting personally and they feel happy for sharing their thoughts. It also explains the use of social media can create a negative effect on studies. Political parties and political leaders are targeting youth for their propaganda and agenda-setting through mobile apps. In the Digital India movement mobile apps are empowering youth for inclusive development.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the views of university students on social networking sites (SNSs) adoption for educational purposes and investigate the factors that motivate students to use SNSs for academic purposes.Design/methodology/approachA survey method of research was adopted and questionnaires were administered to the respondent group. A total of 522 valid responses from the University of Ghana Business School Students were used in the empirical analysis. Regression analysis was used to examine the relationship among the key constructs of the study.FindingsThe results of this study suggest that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, the existence of facilitating conditions and the purposes of SNSs are the key factors that motivate students to adopt SNSs for academic purposes. However, the influence of other people in society and the desire to be identified with social groups were found not to be important predictors of SNSs use by students for educational purposes.Research limitations/implicationsThe data examined in this study are based on sample responses from only one university, which may limit the extent of generalization of the findings.Originality/valueThis paper provides some useful insights into the key predictors of SNSs adoption for educational use by university students from the perspective of a developing country.

In Bangladeshi student politics, political performances in public spaces play an essential role in establishing patronage relationships and determining local authority structures. As Thomas Blom Hansen has famously argued, “visibility means everything” in such a context. With the emergence of social networking sites like Facebook, new digital public spaces have appeared. Focusing on ruling-party student activists at Rajshahi University, this article examines how student politicians in Bangladesh utilize Facebook to become visible in their everyday politicking. It shows how longstanding performative repertoires in the nondigital public space have gained a new salience through performances in the digital public space. It is those digital spaces that allow the performer to rearticulate even mundane everyday events as political performances. As these new digital public spaces impact the politics of visibility, it is crucial to integrate them in our efforts to understand local politics in South Asia and beyond.

A recent review published by Rains and Brunner documented an overwhelming preponderance of the Facebook brand in scholarship about social networking sites (SNS). This follow-up analysis shows that Facebook is still over-privileged when examining the broader umbrella of social media brands; the social networking hegemon constitutes over half of all scholarship across an array of social media, including SNS, media sharing sites, (micro)blogging platforms, virtual communities, and others. This study builds upon Rains and Brunner’s critiques about the over-reliance on the Facebook brand and calls for more scholarship that examines social media as part of larger media repertoires, is more inclusive of indigenous social media brands and their users, and provides greater diversity in terms of academic context. In doing, it serves as the most comprehensive review of social media scholarship to date. Implications for future research are discussed.

Purpose – Although social networking sites (SNS) are providing marketers a lot of information, it is also providing consumers with the ability to present their virtual identities, limiting the benefit of such information. The purpose of this paper is to understand how marketers can segment virtual consumers. Design/methodology/approach – A review of the literature is first conducted. Followed by a survey method, data from 258 consumers were analyzed using a combination of scales including best-worst scaling. Classes and other demographics, behavioral and psychographic covariates were determined using latent-class analysis. Findings – Findings show there exist three different segments based on values: self-conservers, social entertainers, and achievers. The results show how SNS consumers differ in their motivation to use social media, even when there is similarity in the uses (virtual behaviors) of SNS. Research limitations/implications – Analyzing behavior of virtual consumers can be limited by the fact that they are presenting their virtual identity. Psychographic metrics should be the focus of future research when dealing with online consumers, values and motivations provide a better way as they are more consistent than the virtual behavior. Practical implications – Practitioners should look for more ways to integrate SNS segments with traditional segments, values-segmentation can aid in this. Additionally, practitioners should maximize the information access benefits of SNS by focussing also on underlying motives to certain behaviors on SNS. Originality/value – This research value is derived from the fact that it is the first to perform values-segmentation on SNS. The results show that it is reliable and necessary when segmenting consumers on SNS.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the students’ opinion of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, regarding the use of social networking sites (SNSs)/tools by library and their expectation from the library through SNSs. Design/methodology/approach – A survey was conducted using a well-designed questionnaire circulated among 200 students studying in JNU for the academic session 2011-2012. Findings – The study explores that most of the students are in favor of using the SNS/tools by the libraries and they expect the services should be provided to them by libraries through SNS/tools as well. Research limitations/implications – The study geographical area was confined to the students of the JNU, New Delhi, regarding their opinion on use of SNS/tools by the library. Originality/value – The paper highlights the student opinion regarding the use of SNS by library and further explores the expectations of students from library through SNS/tool.

This study dealt with the role played by social networking sites and their implications for the values of Saudi society. This study sought to determine the most used social networking sites by the Saudi society, to reveal their impact on the religious, moral and social values of the Saudi society, and to identify the challenges that result from the use of social networking sites on the values of Saudi society. This study aims to determine the most used social networking sites by the Saudi society, and to reveal its impact on the religious, moral and social values of the Saudi society, and to identify the challenges that result from the use of social networking sites on the values of Saudi society.       This study belongs to the matrix of descriptive studies. The researchers used the survey method by using the questionnaire tool. The study concluded that the What's App platform, followed by Twitter, is one of the most used social networking sites by the Saudi community the Saudis discussed social issues through the societal value index, and the sample members confirmed that social networking sites helped spread the Arabic language outside the borders through the language value index.       This study recommended the need to use the time to benefit, especially since the use of social networking sites for more than three hours during the day is very much. Preserving the value of the Arabic language by avoiding writing with numbers or foreign letters or using the local and colloquial language.

This chapter examines users' opinion regarding various aspects of ICT-based services and facilities provided by the Maulana Azad Library, Aligarh Muslim University, India. The authors used a quantitative study based on the survey method along with the questionnaire as a tool for data collection. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for analysis and interpretation of 278 selected questionnaires. Findings of the study reveal a majority of respondents are satisfied with ICT-based services and facilities offered by the library. However, most of the respondents have reported that it is essential to improve the quality of ICT facilities like the speed of Internet connection, scanner facility, and photocopy facility. They also cited a need to increase the number of printing machines. The findings also show that users have a positive attitude towards ICT tools which are used by the library such as various Social Networking Sites (SNSs), e-mail, blogs, etc. for spreading quick information.

The Influence of Social Net Working Sites (SNS) is being so widely discussed around the world and range of studies conducted with the usage of SNS among higher secondary students is negligible in India. The purpose of the study was to determine the Influence of Social Networking Sites on the study habit of higher secondary students. The researcher is followed descriptive research design for this study. A semi structured research questionnaire was designed to determine the factors of social networking sites that have influenced on higher secondary students. Objectives were to study about socio demographic profile of the children and understand the positive and negative influence of SNS with respect to study habits, identify the study habit among the respondents. The investigator used random sampling method and the total sample size was 40 students. The target population of this study was defined as the students belonging to the higher secondary students in Mammalashery govt. higher secondary school Piravom, Ernakulam. Findings of the study indicated that SNS had been greatly influenced among adolescents. The extend usage of media, usage pattern of SNS, the level of and study habit have been dealt scientifically in this paper. The study was also undertaken to determine how much time students actively use social media and if there has been an increase or decrease in usage over time and its impact on their study and academics.Int.
