Compliance with the new more stringent requirements for railway wheels is possible only with an integrated approach to improving their production technology with a reasonable choice of heat treatment modes, taking into account the chemical composition of steel. The purpose of the study is the experimental and analytical determination of the maximum permissible cooling rate of the rolling surface and the minimum required cooling rate of the central sections of the rim of a railway wheel to achieve a high level of hardness of the ferrite-pearlite structure. The studies were carried out on steels of grades ER8 and ER7 according to EN 13262, grade 2 according to GOST 10791: 2016, steel of class C according to AAR M-107 / M-208. Based on the hardenability test (GOST 5657) by the end hardening method (according to the Jomeni method), the distance from the surface from which one-sided cooling was performed, where the hardness met the requirements of the normative documentation for wheels made of the steel under study, the distance where the formation of needle-like structures did not occur, was determined, including bainite and widmanstatt according to the results of metallographic studies and determination of hardness. Based on the results of temperature changes during the cooling process, the cooling rates were determined in places that met the specified conditions. In the work, modeling was applied in the QForm VX 8.2 software package, as a result, a model was developed for the adaptation of which the results of the experiment were used. The high convergence of the results of calculation and experiment was confirmed. At the same time, the model made it possible to obtain the instantaneous cooling rate in a form that is more consistent with the physical meaning of the process and to avoid the scatter of actual values associated with the discreteness of data recording. It was found that the instantaneous cooling rate changes during the continuous uniform supply of the coolant. In some cases, a significant slowdown in cooling was recorded, or even negative values of the instantaneous cooling rate. This is due to the release of the heat of phase transformation, which occurs during the decomposition of austenite by the diffusion mechanism. The developed model can be used to construct thermokinetic diagrams during continuous cooling and to develop recommendations for heat treatment modes to achieve the specified mechanical properties at a certain structural state.

Demand for water is increasing in the world parallel to increase in population and industrialization. In many developing countries, wastewater is the only source of water for irrigation during dry periods. Besides, wastewater is high in nutrient content which reduces the use of chemical fertilizers for crop cultivation. After a certain period, it will be unable to irrigate with ground water because of its limited quantities and contamination. To overcome this difficulties waste water may be a suitable source to meet the irrigation demand if properly managed and utilized in convenient way. In this study, wastewater samples were collected from four places of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) for determining water quality parameters. Analysis of these impurities were performed with strict quality control and quality assurance using the internationally accepted analytical chemical methods for the determination of their harmful effects on crops and found that most of the parameters exceed the permissible limits. The major problem in using wastewater in agriculture in the project area is the high level of faecal contamination. Thus, efforts are geared toward finding ways of utilizing the previously unused sources of water and/or recycling wastewater.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jesnr.v6i1.22061 J. Environ. Several outbreak prediction models for COVID-19 are being used by officials around the world to make informed-decisions and enforce relevant control measures. Among the standard models for COVID-19 global pandemic prediction, simple epidemiological and statistical models have received more attention by authorities, and they are popular in the media. Due to a high level of uncertainty and lack of essential data, standard models have shown low accuracy for long-term prediction. Although the literature includes several attempts to address this issue, the essential generalization and robustness abilities of existing models needs to be improved. This paper presents a comparative analysis of machine learning and soft computing models to predict the COVID-19 outbreak as an alternative to SIR and SEIR models. Among a wide range of machine learning models investigated, two models showed promising results (i.e., multi-layered perceptron, MLP, and adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system, ANFIS). Based on the results reported here, and due to the highly complex nature of the COVID-19 outbreak and variation in its behavior from nation-to-nation, this study suggests machine learning as an effective tool to model the outbreak. This paper provides an initial benchmarking to demonstrate the potential of machine learning for future research. Paper further suggests that real novelty in outbreak prediction can be realized through integrating machine learning and SEIR models.

Although the two concepts of lean and sustainable construction have been developed due to different incentives, and they do not pursue the same exact goals, there exists considerable commonality between them. This paper discusses the potentials for integrating the two approaches and their practices and how the resulting synergy from combining the two methods can potentially lead to higher levels of fulfilling the individual goals of each of them. Some limitations and challenges to implementing the integrated approach are also discussed. Based on a comprehensive review of existing papers related to sustainable and lean construction topics, the commonality between the two approaches is discussed and grouped in five categories of (1) cost savings, (2) waste minimization, (3) Jobsite safety improvement, (4) reduced energy consumption, and (5) customers’ satisfaction improvement. The challenges of this integration are similarly identified and discussed in the four main categories of (1) additional initial costs to the project, (2) difficulty of providing specialized expertise, (3) contractors’ unwillingness to adopt the additional requirements, and (4) challenges to establish a high level of teamwork. Industry professionals were then interviewed to rank the elements in each of the two categories of opportunities and challenges. The results of the study highlight how future research can pursue the development of a new Green-Lean approach by investing in the communalities and meeting the challenges of this integration.

A novel analytical method involving high-performance liquid chromatography with evaporative light scattering detection (HPLC-ELSD) was developed for simultaneous determination of 11 phenolic acids and 12 triterpenes in Sanguisorba officinalis L. Chromatographic separation was conducted with gradient elution mode by using a DiamonsilTM C18 column (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) with the mobile phase of 0.1% acetic acid water (A) and methanol (B). The drift tube temperature of ELSD was set at 70 °C and the nitrogen cumulative flow rate was 1.6 L/min. The method was fully validated to be linear over a wide concentration range (R2 ≥ 0.9991). The precisions (RSD) were less than 3.0% and the recoveries were between 97.7% and 101.4% for all compounds. The results indicated that this method is accurate and effective for the determination of 23 functional components in Sanguisorba officinalis L. and could also be successfully applied to study the influence of processing method on those functional components in Sanguisorba officinalis L.

The determination of natural radionuclide concentrations plays an important role for assuring public health and in the estimation of the radiological hazards. This is especially true for high level radiation areas. In this study, 226Ra, 228Ra and 238U concentrations were measured in well waters surrounding eight of the high-level natural radiation areas in northern Vietnam. The 226Ra, 228Ra and 238U activity concentrations vary from <1.2 × 10−3–2.7 (0.46), <2.6 × 10−3–0.43 (0.07) and <38 × 10−3–5.32 Bq/L (0.50 of median), respectively. 226Ra and 238U isotopes in most areas are in equilibrium, except for the DT-Thai Nguyen area. The calculated radiological hazard indices are generally higher than WHO (World Health Organization) recommendations. Average annual effective dose and excess lifetime cancer risk values due to drinking well water range from to 130 to 540 μSv/year and 7.4 × 10−6 to 3.1 × 10−5, respectively.

Hiking is a very popular outdoor activity, and has led to an exponential increase in the number of visitors to natural spaces. The objective of this study was to analyze the circulation pattern of visitors to the Caminito del Rey trail, based on the three zones into which the trail can be divided. The sample consisted of 1582 hikers distributed into three different profiles. Of these, 126 utilized an eye-tracking device during the hike, while, for the rest (1456), only their travel speed along the trail was recorded. The use of eye tracking devices identified a greater number of interesting landscapes located in zones 1 and 3 of the trail, and it was observed that the mean travel speed was greater for zone 2 (42.31 m/min) (p < 0.01). Additionally, when the three different visitor profiles were analyzed, significant differences were found between the mean travel speeds according to sectors (p < 0.05). This information is crucial for more efficient management of the trail, as it allows for the development of measures to control and regulate the flow of visitors according to zone, and the design of additional strategies to increase the awareness of the hiker about specific areas of the hike.
