The objective of this research was to gather information about capturing techniques used by the local communities in Kaur District. Respondents were chosen by using snowball sampling method. Variables observed were equipment used by respondents, the time and location of capturing red jungle fowl. The result showed that the equipment used by the respondents are food supplies (rice and water), weapons (machetes, knives, matches), and clothing (hats , jackets, trousers, raincoats) and red jungle fowl hooks, nets, racit, sangkek and bags. Most of respondents chose the location of luring jungle fowl in the plantation area. Keywords: catching, equipment, red jungle fowl

Abstract Indonesia is one of the largest spice-producing countries in the world. Forests in Indonesia have biodiversity that holds the potential for spices which must always be protected. Community gardens in Tanjung Botung Village in various land-use patterns such as agroforestry gardens, people’s yards are a place to grow various types of spices, both grown wild and deliberat1ely cultivated. This study aims to determine the species of spices and their uses in Tanjung Botung Village, Barumun District, North Sumatra. The research method was carried out by in-depth interviews with 20 respondents of local communities. The respondents were chosen by snowball sampling method. There are 33 species of spice plants used by the community, consisting of 13 (39.4%) tree species and 20 (60.6%) herbs. Part of plant used, namely 18 species of fruit (54%), six species of leaves (18%), three species of rhizome (9%), two species of bark (6%), two species of tubers (6%) and stem of a species (1%).

Abstract The expansion of the Brazilian electricity sector is based on the construction of new dams. However, dams generate impacts, especially on riverine communities. Thus, this paper examined the local communities perceptions about the socioeconomic and environmental impacts of the Santo Antônio do Jari Dam, in Amapá. Data were obtained through surveys using the snowball sampling method. To analyze the perception data the Bardin’s analysis of content was used. The research showed that, before the construction of the dam, there was a very intimate bond between the communities, the environment and the nature, which influenced the communities perceptions mainly regarding environmental impacts, relocation, changes in livelihood and access to natural resources.

Tourism development in Denpasar, especially maritime tourism at Semawang Beach in Sanur Kelod has encourage the local community to participate in developing tourism on Semawang Beach. This phenomenon has create participation of local communities in the management of maritime tourism. This research aim to examine participation of local communities in the management of maritime tourism at Semawang Beach in Sanur Kelod. The advantage that are expected to be achieved from this research are academic and practical advantages. This research is located at Semawang Beach in Sanur Kelod. The limits on the scope of this research includes motivation of local communities in management of maritime tourism and participation of local communities in the management of maritime tourism. Type of research data is in the form of qualitative and quantitative. Source of data obtained from primary and secondary data. Collection data techniques using observation, in-depth interview and documentation. Snowball sampling method has been used to determine informant and respondent The result of this research shows that motivation of local communities in the management of maritime tourism at Semawang Beach in Sanur Kelod is motivation to improve the welfare of the society and the mutual relationship between the maritime tourism with the local citizen. The type of local communities participation in the management of maritime tourism at Semawang Beach in Sanur Kelod are divide by three domains, such as : (1) economic participation, by the local communities work in the field of marine tourism, (2) environtment participation, by implementing thebeach clean program at Semawang Beach, coral reef cleanup program, village deliberations are held to discuss various issues in the environment, participation of local communities in the efforts to protect the environment around Semawang Beach, participation of local communities in lending of vacant land as parking lots, (3) social culture participation, laying of typical Balinese statues and introduce the melukat culture to the tourist. The purposes of this study were to know marketing channel, marketing margin, share, and marketing profit of fresh fruit bunches of oil palm in Tempakan Village, Batu Engau Subregency, Paser Regency. The study was conducted from June to August 2016. The sampling method was done with two ways as random sampling in farmer level and in marketing channel as snowball sampling. Data analysis were done by calculating marketing margin, share, and marketing profit. The results of this study showed that there are two marketing channels in reserach location are channel of level zero and channel of level one. Marketing margin in farmer level was Rp40.39 kg-1 and margin in whole trader level was Rp314.44 kg-1. The average share of farmer level was 97.58% and in trader level was 81.48%. Margin and share that profitable for farmer is at channel of level zero. The average of profit in whole trader level of fresh fruit bunches was 112.75%, that meant marketing by whole trader is profitable.

Gambier  is  one  of  the  commodity  export  in  Indonesia  and  it  has  been supplied  80%  of  the  world’s  needs.  The  largest  gambier  production  area  is  Lima Puluh  Kota  Regency,  West  Sumatera  (70,39%).  The  benefit  from  its  position  as  the biggest  gambier  supplier  or  producer  is  not  enjoyed  by  gambier  farmer  because  of weak gambier marketing  and  the role of  merchand middlement had a more powerful and dominant  for  determine  of gambier prices.  The purpose of this study  is  analyzing marketing  system  of  gambier  through  marketing  channel  analysis,  marketing channel’s  role  analysis  (farmer  group  and  merchand  middlemen)  and  operational efficiency analysis. This study was conducted from Desember 2014 until January 2015 in  Kapur  IX  Subdistrict,  Lima  Puluh  Kota  Regency,  West  Sumatera.  Farmer s  were chosen  by  purposive  sampling  method  and  middlemen  were  chosen  by  snowball sampling  method. Data processing  in this study was  using  descriptive qualitative and quantitative  analysis.  The  result  of  this  study  showed  that  there  are  4  marketing channels  of  gambier  marketing.  Based  on  operational  efficiency  indicator,  all marketing channels had been inefficiency because of weak farmer’s bargaining power so their  role is just as a price taker. But  among all  marketing channels, channel  4  is more  efficient  relatively  based  on  benefit and cost  ratio,  price  share  and  marketing function implementation. The result of this  study  also  showed that farmer  group  and farmer  association  of  gambier  are  still  in  starter  institution  so  that  they  are  not capable to contribute in marketing gambier.

Background: Initiation of smoking habit often occurs in early teens due to the interaction of teenagers with the social environment. The community has an important role in protecting teenagers from the habit of smoking. Objective: The research was aimed to explore the experience of the community in protecting the early-teenagers from smoking habit from the perspective of Indonesian people. Materials and Methods: The qualitative study used the descriptive phenomenology approach on 100 participants (early-teenagers, parents, teachers, and school nurses) who were selected through snowball sampling method. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews using open-ended questions. The data were analysed manually using the data source triangulation method. Results: Six research topics were concluded: 1) screening of habits related to health, 2) smoking bans, 3) punishment for smoking habit, 4) smoke-free counseling, 5) evaluation of efforts done, and 6) follow-up of smoking-free programs. Conclusion: The results of the study indicated the importance of consistent efforts to prevent the initiation of smoking habit in early-teenagers both at school and at home. The communities around them at school and home need to have people with healthy non-smoking habit as good role models for the teens.

Red junglefowl domestication has been carried out by communities in the region of Bengkulu Province. This research aimed to study the management of keeping red junglefowl and the offsprings and the coops. The research was carried out in Bengkulu Province. The sample of breeders was selected using snow-ball sampling method. The selected samples were recorded and used as the data and information sources. The data were collected by interviewing, questionnaires, and direct observation. The data obtained were processed, presented in the form of tables, drawings and analyzed descriptively. Based on research method, out of a total of 200 red junglefowl breeders and or the offsprings were chosen 50 (25%) respondents from Bengkulu city, 50 (25%) respondents from Seluma District, 50 (25%) respondents from Central Bengkulu District and 50 (25%) respondents from North Bengkulu District. The red junglefowl and the offsprings breeding is divided into keeping the hens, roosters and chicks. The hens were kept in the coop during the day and night (41%), released during the day and night (22%) and kept during the night in the coop and released during the day (37%). In the same way, in sequence, the breeding of roosters was 71%, 12.5% and 16.5%, while the breeding of chicks was 37%, 18% and 45%. 31% respondents provided quarantine coop, while 69% respondents did not. 75% provided hens coop and 25% did not, 61% provided roosters coop and 39% did not. Finally, the respondents who provided chicks coop were 40.5% and 59.5% did not. The breeding management has not been done intensively, some respondents have completed coops system, but not yet meet the criteria of good coop.Keywords: Domestication, red junglefowl, coops

Lazada is a market leader of e-commerce in Shout-East Asia. This study aims to analyze and discuss the effect of the e-service quality and eases on the repurchase intention through satisfaction. This study uses college students aged 18-25 years as respondents, which have purchased Lazada at least once, and their last purchase is in the last one month. The sampling method is non-probability sampling using a snowball sampling technique. The number of samples is 220 respondents. Data were collected by an online questionnaire and analyzed using AMOS. The result of this study indicates that e-service quality and ease have a significant effect on satisfaction and repurchase intention.

The purpose of this study was to find the level of orphans’ motivation for higher education and factors contributing their motivation for higher education. Since Kandahar is one of the historically and strategically important provinces of Afghanistan in which four-decade war have adversely affected different aspects of lives of its population. Orphan and education seem two contradictory terms in a country like Afghanistan with four-decade war history. The study is descriptive in nature where a quantitative questionnaire was designed to collect data from randomly selected 112 students studying in 10th, 11th and 12th of Shaikh Zaid orphanage and from 15 graduates through snowball sampling method. The findings revealed that orphans are motivated for higher education transportation, financial problem, daydreaming, distraction during study are the major challenges that prevent orphans from getting higher education.
