Adhering to standard precautions is a key factor in reducing the risk of infection among nurses and nursing students. This study identified nursing students’ compliance with standard precautions and the factors associated with their compliance. This descriptive survey included 176 nursing students from a regional nursing college. Compliance with standard precautions was assessed using a 20-item questionnaire. Data were analysed using t-tests, a one-way analysis of variance, and a multiple regression analysis. Participants’ overall compliance rate was 50.5%. Concerning general characteristics, significant differences were found regarding needle-stick or sharps injuries, practicum department (surgical and paediatric), and type of contact (faeces). Needle-stick or sharps injury experience (β = -0.225) and surgery practicum department (β = 0.182; Adj R² = 0.063; p = 0.001) had a significant effect on compliance level. Standard precautions should be emphasized in the nursing curricula, along with systematic continuing education. Educational programs for needle-stick or sharps injury prevention should also be included in standard precautions curricula.

                The evolution of information technology has exerted great influence on nursing education via new pedagogy of knowledge delivery without time and place restriction. Mobile technology revolutionises nursing education and clinical practice via empowering skills of critical thinking and clinical decision-making through learning. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of using mobile messenger (Whatsapp) as an educational supporting tool among nursing students. The study design used is a Cluster Randomized Control Trail. Two nursing colleges were selected. Sample size was 93 participants, 48 from the Kuala Terengganu Nursing College Kuala Terengganu as the intervention group while the control group were recruited among 45 participants from UniSZA Nursing College. There is a significant difference in the level of knowledge between pre and posttest among intervention group (mean difference was -8.70 with a standard deviation 8.42, p-value< 0.001) and 93.8 percent of the respondents perceived the usefulness of using WhatsApp mobile messenger to enhance learning. This demonstrates that learning through mobile messenger (WhatsApp) enhances learning and is well received as a new method of learning by almost all students.   Keywords: Mobile learning, WhatsApp messenger, Social Interaction

Introduction Nursing students are exposed to ethically challenging conditions in their future workplaces; hence, they must be ethically knowledgeable and morally sensitive to provide patients with holistic care based on sound ethical decision-making skills. Objectives: This study aimed to assess nursing students’ perception of their academic ethical awareness and moral sensitivity and determine the relationship between these variables. Methods: We conducted a descriptive correlational research study with a convenient sample of nursing students (N = 246) in a Saudi University nursing college. Data were collected using the Academic Ethical Awareness Questionnaire and Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire. We used descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and regression analyses. Results: Nursing students exhibited moderate academic ethical awareness and moral sensitivity. The regression analysis showed that academic ethical awareness can substantially predict 28.8% of the explained moral sensitivity variance ( p < 0.001). Nursing students were aware that the violation of patients’ respect or confidentiality and cheating in examinations were unethical behaviors. However, they showed low ethical awareness toward plagiarism behaviors. Furthermore, they reported higher moral sensitivity for patient-oriented care and professional responsibility and did not experience conflict. Academic level and integrated classroom and clinical learning experiences seemed to positively impact students’ academic ethical awareness. Conclusion: The findings provide a basis for monitoring nursing students’ professional misconduct so that they maintain integrity and adhere to academic ethics guidelines. Constant exertions for fostering nursing ethics courses with inspiring learning content and innovative instructional material are vital in improving nursing students’ academic integrity and ethical care.

Background: Higher education institutions have executed policies and practices intended to determine and promote good teaching. Students’ evaluation of the teaching and learning process is seen as one measure of evaluating quality and effectiveness of instruction and courses. Policies and procedures guiding this process are discernible in universities, but it isoften not the case for nursing colleges.Objective: To analyse and describe the views of nursing students on block evaluation, and how feedback obtained from this process was managed.Method: A quantitative descriptive study was conducted amongst nursing students (n = 177) in their second to fourth year of training from one nursing college in KwaZulu-Natal. A questionnaire was administered by the researcher and data were analysed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences Version 19.0.Results: The response rate was 145 (81.9%). The participants perceived the aim of block evaluation as improving the quality of teaching and enhancing their experiences as students.They questioned the significance of their input as stakeholders given that they had never been consulted about the development or review of the evaluation tool, or the administration process; and they often did not receive feedback from the evaluation they participated in.Conclusion: The college management should develop a clear organisational structure with supporting policies and operational guidelines for administering the evaluation process. The administration, implementation procedures, reporting of results and follow-up mechanisms should be made transparent and communicated to all concerned. Reports and actions related to these evaluations should provide feedback into relevant courses or programmes.Keywords: Student evaluation of teaching; perceptions; undergraduate nursing students; evaluation process

Biomedical waste or hospital waste is any kind of waste containing infectious materials. It may also include waste ass ociated with the generation of biomedical waste that visually appears to be of medical or laboratory origin (e.g. packaging, unused bandages, infusion kits etc.), as well research laboratory waste containing bio molecules or organisms that are mainly restricted from environmental release. The pre-experimental study was conducted on 40 nursing students in Chief Khalsa Diwan International Nursing College, Amritsar. Prior to structured teaching programme nursing students gave self-information and a self-structured knowledge questionnaire was used and evaluate the significant of difference between the two groups. The data obtained from study subjects was analysed and interpreted in terms of objectives and hypothesis of the study. Descriptive and inferential statistics was used for the data analysis. The study findings revealed that structured teaching programme was significantly effective in increasing the knowledge of Nursing Students of Chief Khalsa Diwan International Nursing College, Amritsar.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate interpersonal competence and social support and their mediating effects on the relationship between caring efficacy and empathy in nursing students. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. Data collection was conducted from February 5 to February 12, 2019, from 254 students enrolled in the Department of Nursing in Jeollabuk-do and Chungcheongbuk-do. Data analysis was conducted using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: As a result of verifying the mediating effects of social support and interpersonal competence on the relationship between the empathy ability and caring efficacy of nursing college students, it was found that social support and interpersonal competence partially mediated the relationship between the two variables (Z=1.68, p=.046).Conclusion: Through this study, a theoretical basis was provided that when applied to an educational program could improve nursing students' caring efficacy. Content that can improve not only empathy but also social support and interpersonal competence should be included.
