Squid (Loligo chinensis) played an important role in small scale fisheries in Banyuasin Coastal Waters, however, the information and publications were limited. This study aimed to estimate the length at first capture (LC50%), the length at first maturity (Lm), growth pattern and condition factor of L. chinensis from Banyuasin Coastal Waters of South Sumatra. The squids were observed for samples in April 2018 and March 2019 using a stationary lift net. During the observation, the squid measurement was conducted on 1179 individuals. The mantle length ranged was 40-210 mm and their body weight ranged was 2-42 gr. The value of LC50%, Lm and ½L∞ were obtained at 103 mm, 147 mm, and 110.5 mm respectively. The analysis results of the length-weight relationship (W = 0.0145L1.4618, R2 = 0.9265 and P < 0.05) showed that their growth pattern was negative allometric (b < 3).  The mean relative condition factor (Kn = 1.01) above the critical value limits (K=0.56) confirmed that the environmental condition of Banyuasin Coastal Waters suitable for the L. chinensis growth. However, should be careful with their length size of the squid catch were not feasible in the capture.

Kawakawa (Euthynnus affinis Cantor, 1849) one of the important catch for small-scale fisheries in Tanjung Luar, West Nusa Tenggara. This species is included in neritic tuna group that mostly utilized by using purse seine and gillnet. The objectives of this research are to investigate the growth pattern and condition factor of this particular species. Data collection was conducted for 12 months from January to December 2016 in Tanjung Luar Port, West Nusa Tenggara. Data were collected in twelve consecutive months by enumerators. Total of 1,297 specimens were collected, measured (cmFL) and weighted (kg). The measurements showed that the length of ranged from 24-71 cmFL with average of 51.66 cmFL. The weight ranged from 0.21-7.05 kg with average of 2.72 kg. Analysis of length-weight relationships was W=0.00001 FL3.114 with determination coefficient (R2) 0.978. Growth pattern of positive allometric (b>3) where the additional of weight proceeded faster than the of length increments. The highest relative condition factor (Kn) occurred at upper limit of length class 45 cm with 1.187 and the lowest at 30 cmFL with 0.940. Monthly relative condition factor tends to stable with the highest value occurred on November with 1.140 and the lowest on March with 1.033 and tend to fluctuated for small size group. While for adult fish tend to decrease along with the length increase.

Face to decreasing of high-value commercial fishes’ stocks particularly of small pelagic fish in the central part of FAO fishery area 34, the present study has been carried out. From November 2016 to June 2018, monthly 1041 specimens of Sardinella maderensis were collected from southeastern coastal water of Benin randomly. Standard and Total Length, and weight as well as, the sex data were collected.t-test, z-test and ANOVA one tail test were performed to determine whether there was a significant difference between data. With a ratio of 1:1.5 statistically different from 1:1 (p<0.001), female dominate S. maderensis population in Benin. Negative allometry both for the female (2.92) the male (2.88) and combined sexes (2.90) highly different from the consensus, “b=3” (p<0.001) is remarked. The relative condition factor computed from the allometry shows an average environmental condition for S. maderensis growth. Regarding the shared character of S. maderensis stock in CECAF’s central area, these results are important for the next stock assessment..

The investigation of length-weight relationship and condition factor are very relevant indices to ascertain the health of fish in the water body. Length-weigh relationship and condition factor of Hyperopisus bebe (Lacepede, 1803) (Actinopterygii: Osteoglossiformes: Mormyridae) in River Galma, Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria, were assessed. The mean length and mean weigh in male and female were 26.703 cm +/- 0.51 cm and 25.32 cm +/- 0.898 cm; 158.2 g +/- 10.1 g and 95.91 g +/- 9.26 g, respectively. The exponent or growth pattern 'b' values for male and female were 2.009 and 2.176. The condition factor for male and female were 0.59 and 0.83, respectively. The negative allometric growth pattern and poor condition factor might be due to the poor water quality in the fish ecosystem and should be regarded with concern.

Hematology is an important pathological and diagnostic tool. This paper describes the hematological parameters of 76 specimens of Hoplias malabaricus infested with monogenean parasites, which were collected from two lagoons. The hematological parameters included: erythrocyte count (Er), microhematocrit (Hct), hemoglobin (Hb), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC). The blood parameters showed no significant changes associated with the infestation. Water temperature was found to be negatively correlated with MCV and Hct, with values of rs= −0.52, p<0.0001 and rs= −0.48, p<0.0001, respectively. The mean Relative Condition Factor was Kn=1.01, indicating good health conditions of the fish in these lagoons. No correlation was found between the monogenean infestation and the blood parameters, or between the environmental factors and the monogeneans.

Tade gray mullet (Chelon planiceps) forms a lucrative fishery in the Hooghly-Matlah estuarine system. During eight months of investigation 232 specimens were examined to study length-weight relationship and relative condition factor (Kn). The length and weight of fish was varied from 41 to 283 mm and 0.81 to 208 g respectively. Two length-weight relationship equations were obtained from the analysis, W=0.0000397L2.952 for <187 mm size group and W=0.0000406L2.834 for >187 mm size group. The size at first maturity was recorded as 187 mm. The b value was not significantly different from 3 indicating isometric growth. The monthly mean Kn for the male and female were 1.041–1.125 and 1.009–1.236 respectively. The highest Kn value was recorded in July for both the sexes, which may be due to advance maturity stages. The present study will be useful in the context of biological management of mullet fishery as well as to find out aqua-farming potential of Tade gray mullet.

Twenty specimens of triploid with weight and length ranging from 207-300g and 29-32cm; diploid 150-200g and 23-28cm Heterobranchus bidorsalis (Geoffroy St. Hilaire 1809) were subjected to morphometric and meristic characterization, length-weight relationship and condition factor evaluation. Triploid specimens had the higher values in all the parameters examined and were significantly different (P<0.005). Regression analysis of diploid and triploid show the ranges of values (K) of 0.802 1.453 and 0.838 0.906 respectively, for condition factor (k) while the relative condition factor values (Kn) ranged between 0.869 1.087 and 0.968 1.038 respectively. Weight increases directly as the total length increases for both diploid and triploid indicating isometric growth. The R2 in triploid was higher (96.8%) than in diploids (42.4%). In diploid progenies, the length by weight was significantly different (P<0.05) in triploid. Triploid progenies need no special adaptive environment or technique for rearing. Therefore, diploid and triploid progenies can be successfully cultured simultaneously under the same environmental condition.

The Common carp, Cyprinus carpio is an exotic fish in Lake Naivasha. It is one of the commercially important species in the lake. This study investigated on its biology and population parameters during 2017. Fish samples (433) were caught using gillnets of mesh-sizes 2-5 inches. Length of fish ranged from 12.0 to 69.0 cm TL, and weighed between 32 and 6840 g. The overall population sex ratio was 1.66: 1.0 (male: female). The mean length of females was 34.8 cm and males 32.1 cm. The length at first maturity was calculated at 54.0 and 49.0 cm for females and males, respectively. The mean condition factor for all fish was 1.05. The peak condition values were recorded during April (1.35), September (1.59) and October (1.80). There was a significant difference in mean condition factor within the size classes highest (1.38) and lowest (0.93) values recorded in class 56-60 and 26-30, respectively. The overall asymptotic length (L∞) was 73.5 cm and growth curvature (K) 1.05 yr-1 with growth performance index (Ф) of 3.72. The total (Z), natural (M), fishing (F) mortality coefficients 2.85, 1.34 and 1.78 yr-1, respectively. The exploitation rate (E) of 0.57 was higher than optimum sustainable yield (E0.5) of 0.32, but not different from maximum sustainable yields (Emax) 0.54 and economic yield (E0.1) 0.46. The length at first capture (LC50) was lower than length at first maturity (LM50), suggesting capture of immature fish. This study provides parameters of fish biology and population often useful in fisheries management.
