The article discusses the development of the transport of dry goods, including in containers, along the inland waterways of Russia. The authors presented the concept and algorithm of substantiating transport and logistics schemes for the delivery of export-import dry cargo with the participation of river transport, since it is here that justified and comprehensive state measures are needed to increase the role of this transport in cooperation with railway, road and sea modes of transport. Factors that negatively affect the functioning of river transport are described, topical transport and logistics schemes for the transport of dry cargo are proposed: through the Northern Sea Route or railway transport (Alternative - through Gibraltar and the Suez Canal); through the international transport corridor (ITC) «North-South»; the scheme of transportation of export-import dry cargo to the regions of Russia and vice versa "Western Europe - Russia." The conclusion contains a list of measures to develop further research.

The Arctic region, including the Russian Arctic and the Northern Sea Route (NSR), is currently characterized by an increased interest of many countries of the world and international business circles. For Russia the need to develop the Arctic is indisputable, and the NSRis the basis for development of the region. In addition, the region possesses a unique transport and logistics potential. It is believed that in the future it will connect the largest markets in Asia, Europe and North America with maritime transport corridors. Climatic changes and melting of ice are increasingly opening up the NSRfor navigation, and this leads to an increase in the attractiveness of this route. At the national level, the task is todevelop possibilities for turning the NSRinto an international transport corridor, similar to the Suez Canal. However, the transit potential of the NSR is not obvious. The article is aimed to determine the competitive capabilities of the NSRand assessits transit potential in the near future. To achieve the goal, it is necessary to identify strengths and weaknesses when using NSR, to conduct a comparative analysis of the known international routes (the Suez Canal) and this route, and to reveal prospects for the transit potential of the NSR, identifying the most likely potential transit transport participant —China. As a result of the study, it was concluded that in the near future the NSR will not compete with the Suez Canal and other international routes, but will be in demand as a national transport artery for transporting extracted oil and gas resources from the fields in the Arctic part of Russia. As to the transformation of the NSR into an international transport corridor, it will take huge financial and time resources, also Russia may have to sacrifice its strategic and geopolitical interests in the Arctic, which is currently unacceptable.

Archaeological sources make it impossible to deny that rivers served as pathways in the past. Conversely, the role of inland waterways in the Roman transport economy of northern Gaul has received little scholarly attention. This paper introduces a historical archaeological study of the transport network of the Roman-era Scheldt basin (presentday north-western Europe), with an emphasis on the role of waterways. As a starting point, this study works from the hypothesis of an integrated transport network, in which rivers, roads, and seaways link up to form a single system.

Abstract The article considers the development of urbanization in the regions of Russia through the formation of transport corridors. The authors analysed the urbanization processes and their features in three regions of Russia: Trans-Baikal Territory, the Republic of Buryatia, and the Irkutsk region. Transport corridors will continue to develop within the framework of the regional policy of Russia and China. The authors also evaluated the foreign economic activity with Mongolia and China. The study highlights the key role of regional centres in the development of foreign economic cooperation. The evolution of urbanization processes in these regions requires the creation of a regulatory complex, which will allow streamlining these processes. It is necessary to use the opportunities for further development of regional cities through the formation of international transport corridors.

This article considers the issues on forming the Russian transport system, and the impact of distance and climate on the transport development. Special attention is paid to the role of railway transport in the country’s transport system, the state and development of rolling stock, and the development of track equipment. Considerable attention is paid to the development of transport and the railway network in the Far East and Siberia.

The active melting of the Arctic ice has increased interest in the prospects for the development of the Northern Sea Route not only in Russia, but also in China. The paper analyzes the state, problems, and prospects for the development of the Russian Northern Sea Route, considers the main provisions of China’s Arctic strategy. It is shown that the growth of China’s activity in the Arctic, superimposed on China’s desire to optimize logistics ties with Western Europe, can stimulate the formation of the international transport corridor «Northern Transit», which will attract up to 180 billion rubles of investments in the Far East within the framework of infrastructure projects, and will contribute to the growth of its economy and strengthening the transport framework of the Far East

Enzootic bovine leucosis (EBL) has been known for more than a century and a half. Its occurrence and registration may have historically been associated with intensive breeding of dairy cattle in Western Europe to increase target productivity. It is known that any limiting intervention in the nature of the animal organism is always accompanied by an uncontrolled and unpredictable change in the genotype of a wider range than the required, particularly negative order. In particular, a decrease in the resistance to macroorganisms and the possibility of the new diseases emergence, including infectious ones (for example, immunodeficiencies such as BLAD syndrome of black-motley cattle and stress syndrome in pigs, the occurrence of scrapie and other slow sheep infections). In the last two decades of the last century, in many disadvantaged countries, primarily Western European, national programs for the eradication of EBL have been developed and subsequently successfully implemented. First of all the motivation was the economy of dairy cattle breeding (mainly the extension of productive age, as well as the tightening of requirements in international trade in cattle and bull products, breeding, pricing, etc.). In an analytical article are reviewed the elements of epizootology of EBL in the foreign countries with special attention to the situation in the USA, scenarios of various control programs, and promising methods for assessing the role of infected animals in the epizootic process. A critical assessment of the problem of EBL in the Russian Federation is given, the reasons for the ineffectiveness of against leucosis measures are discussed.

The concluding chapter highlights how the cultural history of graphic signs of authority in late antiquity and the early Middle Ages encapsulated the profound transformation of political culture in the Mediterranean and Europe from approximately the fourth to ninth centuries. It also reflects on the transcendent sources of authority in these historical periods, and the role of graphic signs in highlighting this connection. Finally, it warns that, despite the apparent dominant role of the sign of the cross and cruciform graphic devices in providing access to transcendent protection and support in ninth-century Western Europe, some people could still employ alternative graphic signs deriving from older occult traditions in their recourse to transcendent powers.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) was first detected in Madrid, Spain, on 25 February 2020. It increased in frequency very fast and by the end of May more than 70,000 cases had been confirmed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). To study the lineages and the diversity of the viral population during this first epidemic wave in Madrid we sequenced 224 SARS-CoV-2 viral genomes collected from three hospitals from February to May 2020. All the known major lineages were found in this set of samples, though B.1 and B.1.5 were the most frequent ones, accounting for more than 60% of the sequences. In parallel with the B lineages and sublineages, the D614G mutation in the Spike protein sequence was detected soon after the detection of the first coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) case in Madrid and in two weeks became dominant, being found in 80% of the samples and remaining at this level during all the study periods. The lineage composition of the viral population found in Madrid was more similar to the European population than to the publicly available Spanish data, underlining the role of Madrid as a national and international transport hub. In agreement with this, phylodynamic analysis suggested multiple independent entries before the national lockdown and air transportation restrictions.
