The article examines the role of the Far East in modern Russian-Mongolian trade and economic relations. Based on the data of customs statistics, the features of mutual trade of the Far Eastern subjects with Mongolia are determined. The factors determining the growing interest of Ulaanbaatar to Russian Far Eastern ports are identified. Author highlights the Mongolian projects of railways construction, potentially aimed at enhancing transport connectivity with Russian territories, especially in the context of mineral raw materials supply diversification. The «bottlenecks» of the transport and logistics environment in the region bordering on Mongolia – the Republic of Buryatia, are shown. The research findings are applicable to management practices, especially those concerning transport and logistics solutions to ensure Russian-Mongolian trade.

The expansion of the borders of the Far Eastern Federal District due to the inclusion of the Trans-Baikal Territory and the Republic of Buryatia in its composition actualizes the problem of inequality of regions (primarily in the social sphere), which in the new boundaries of the macroregion has significantly increased and has acquired a «supernormal» character. It has been established that the lag of the «new» Far Eastern subjects in the level of social development is accompanied by an increase in negative phenomena in the social sphere. The necessity of implementing a set of measures to form a «corridor of opportunities» that regions can use, including within the framework of interregional interaction within the Far Eastern Federal District, has been substantiated

An assessment of spatial changes in the timber industry complex in Russia has been carried out. Based on the estimates obtained, it was concluded that the traditional leaders, which include the regions of the North-Western and Siberian Federal Districts, continue to determine the all-Russian trends in the timber industry. In the production of unprocessed wood and sawn wood, there has been a significant spatial shift in favor of the regions of the Siberian Federal District, which entailed an increase in the production of timber products on a national scale. The main factors that influenced the spatial shifts in the timber industry are identified, the leading role of the factors of external markets and internal institutional changes is shown, and their influence on the parameters of regional timber industry complexes is considered

The subject of the study is the processes of forming the budget security of municipalities. The purpose of the study was to identify problems that reduce the effectiveness of leveling the level of budget provision of municipalities. It is shown that it is impossible to equalize the budget provision of municipalities by establishing standards for the formation of expenditures of local budgets or improving interbudgetary relations within the framework of «model» budgets. Using the example of the Khabarovsk Territory, the preference for an evolutionary approach to improving the methodology for equalizing the degree of budget security in modern conditions is shown, with an emphasis on taking into account differences in housing and communal services costs and transport accessibility of municipalities

The article provides a review of theoretical concepts and empirical studies of the mutual influence of economic development processes and the types of formal and informal institutions constructed. It reveals that in order to explain the phenomenon of long-term stability of reproduction of the gap between theoretically expected and observed economic and social responses to institutional innovations in the Amur River basin, it is reasonable to test the hypothesis of blocking positive return on resources by extractive institutions, and the hypothesis of constant reproduction of extractive nature of institutions under the influence of geographical features of the regional system itself

The article analyzes theoretical approaches to explaining the mechanisms and methods for assessing effects of international economic integration. The author determined that within the framework of «modern regionalism», the mechanisms of integration are explained mainly by endogenous processes. These processes are determined both by the economic motives of market actors and by political and institutional constraints. Within the framework of «modern regionalism», the general direction is to assess the long-term multifaceted effects of integration, while the short-term effects of integration have not lost their relevance

The work considers the main categories of national projects of Russia 2019–2024 at the regional level. An assessment of the effects and consequences of the implementation of regional projects taking into account regional specifics and financial resources is given. The article shows the development indicators lag behind the planned goals as a result of a decrease in the number due to natural population decline, a decrease in real incomes of citizens, and the preservation of a high level of poverty of the population. The problem of coordination of regional projects with the current federal and regional programs and strategies for socio-economic development has been updated. The impact of the pandemic of coronavirus infection on the implementation of national projects in the Far East is analyzed.
