The sudden accidents often occur when passengers traveling on the footpath of public transport at high speed. The sudden fall from footsteps at that speed may cause serious risk to passengers. In this paper, we present a passengers safety system that has two major features, one is to detect the passengers present in the footpath of the vehicle and the other one is to maintain the speed of the vehicle based on the detection of passengers in the footpath. The present work used IOT system that contains an ultrasonic sensor to detect passengers in a given area. Based on the sensor output of detection of passengers, the door of public transport will automatically open/close and also it will maintain or increase the speed of the bus based on the results. The development of this IOT system also implements an IEEE 802.11 technology to transmit the signal from public transport to mobile apps. The monitoring and controlling mobile application are developed which can receive/transmit the data from/to the controller of the system by using IEEE 802.11. This mobile application shows the status of detection of passengers, door status, and also the real-time speed of the public transport. Keywords – Passenger safety, IoT, Monitoring system, Wireless Communication.

The paper addresses the issue of assessing the condition of the public transport stops infrastructure in urban areas. A set of eight criteria was used for the assessment. The first six criteria assess the occurrence of certain infrastructure elements categorized as: basic equipment; additional equipment; passenger information system; equipment increasing accessibility for people with disabilities; as well as equipment increasing security and safety. The other two criteria reflect the subjective assessment of the degree of destruction and visual quality of the stop. The method was used to assess 68 stops located in Poznań’s district Łazarz.

We have proposed an advanced android crime tracker mobile application which will track the status of the investigation as well as it also tracks complaints reported by the public. The main purpose of the application is to help higher authorities like CBI and police to speed up their investigation process and track status of multiple cases at a time. In this application, public will help them to get the crime details quickly and then they can take action immediately. It will help the police to know the crime ratio in the society. This application will show all the updated crime post and once case is solved then admin can delete the post and can also update the status of investigation. Public can upload photos of crime spot and location of crime spot and photos of items found on scene. User can also post their missing person details by doing same procedure. User can also check the status updated by the admin and incase of any query or emergency; the user can chat with the police with the help of chat box. For women safety, we have provided a SOS button which will call police by clicking on that button. This application is designed in such a way that all the post which is uploaded by peoples can be seen by police also. After that they can take action immediately on it and they can write the status of the crime. This system will speed up the crime investigation process.

In the last five years, there has been a growing concern about the fact that there might be some terrorist mix in the surge of refugees fleeing war-torn Muslim-majority countries. The concern resulted in people rethinking about refugees are granted asylums. Some Europeans call for their governments to quit bringing to their countries any more refugees at all. This however goes against what these countries agreed and signed in the 1951 Convention and the 1967 United Nations Protocol concerning the status of refugees. In this article, it will be examined if it is true that migrants bring terrorists with them, how this proposition itself came to be, and whether or not there are rock solid data to support it. As it will be discovered in the following paragraphs, there is no direct correlation between refugees and terrorist activities that take place in different places which happen to be hosting refugees. Instead, the idea security threat in refugee host countries and migrants they accommodate roots from attitude the people in those countries have towards migrants, demographic differences as well as real world issues. The solution to this misconception requires both refugees and receiving nations to collaborate; such as the refugees helping authorities to identify any terrorist recruiter who may be lurking among them and on the other hand the authorities should devise a seamless system of border control in order to know who enters their countries and who leaves. They can also engage in activities helping the public to distinguish between terrorists and migrants by raising awareness.

The purpose of this research is to construct an application prototype from the study of public transport problems in the local communities of Thailand. There are three main goals for research to be successful: (1) To study problems and situations in which communities are affected by public transport. (2) To design and standardize the management of problems and situations in which the community is affected by public transport. (3) To construct a public transport application prototype for local communities of Thailand. Population and sampling were scoped from the public transport service provider in Phayao Province, Thailand. The prototype was constructed with an Android Mobile Application. The results of the study showed that the developed application prototypes showed a high level of satisfaction (total means is equal to 3.95, S.D. is equal to 0.73) with the design and implementation of the prototype. In the future, the researcher will bring the application to the test and deployment.

This chapter examines the dual role of arbitrators as service providers and adjudicators. The public conceptualization of international arbitrators has often leaned towards seeing them as either contract providers of sorts or adjudicators, but never both. The arbitrator's status is thus often a conflict between ‘service provider’ and ‘justice provider’. Yet arbitrators are, as discussed in previous chapters, professionals whose ethics are grounded in real-world perspectives. This chapter analyses several ideas and philosophies that corroborate a dual conception of the ideal arbitrator as both service provider and justice provider, and that neither aspect is independent from the other. Several institutions across the world are beginning to recognize this duality, fortunately, as the greatest strength of an international arbitrator is his ability to straddle these dual roles, rather than subject themselves to mere one-dimensional representations.

AbstractThe modern mobile phones and the complete digitalization of the public and private transport networks have allowed to access useful information to understand the user’s mean of transportation. This enables a plethora of old and new applications in the fields of sustainable mobility, smart transportation, assistance, and e-health. The precise understanding of the travel means is at the basis of the development of a large range of applications. In this paper, a number of metrics has been identified to understand whether an individual on the move is stationary, walking, on a motorized private or public transport, with the aim of delivering to city users personalized assistance messages for: sustainable mobility, health, and/or for a better and enjoyable life, etc. Differently from the state-of-the-art solutions, the proposed approach has been designed to provide results, and thus collect metrics, in real operating conditions (imposed on the mobile phones as: a range of different mobile phone kinds, operating system constraints managing Applications, active battery consumption manager, etc.). The paper reports the whole experimentations and results. The solution has been developed in the context of Sii-Mobility Km4City Research Project infrastructure and tools, performed with the collaboration of public transport operators, and GDPR compliant. The same solution has been used in Snap4City mobile Apps with experiments performed in Antwerp and Helsinki.

Mobile devices have penetrated all spheres of human activities, including education. Previous research has shown that smartphones are becoming widely used in learning as they can improve knowledge retention and increase student engagement. The purpose of this study was to discuss students’ perception of the use of a mobile application aimed at learning new English vocabulary and phrases and describe its strengths and weaknesses as perceived by the students. In total, 28 university students answered a pen and paper questionnaire survey after experiencing the app during one semester. Overall, the students’ agreement to the positive aspects displayed in the questionnaire prevailed over their disagreement or neutral opinions. The mobile app helped students prepare for the final achievement test, learning was accessible from anywhere and at any time, students appreciated the corrective feedback and would opt for the implementation of the mobile app in other courses taught at the faculty. On the other hand, as the findings indicate, the students reported that the app was not very supportive regarding communication performance; they did not find the teachers’ notifications encouraging and they did not use the pronunciation support much, which was caused by various factors, such as offering students words and phrases without context or not testing all the items in the final credit test. The findings of this study contribute to the existing knowledge of students’ perceptions of the use of mobile apps for learning purposes.

Criminal prosecution is generally the preserve of the state. However, there are legislated exceptions that allow for private prosecution. For example, section 7 of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977 entitles individuals who satisfy certain criteria to prosecute in their own names. Section 8 of the Act, on the other hand, provides for statutory private prosecution. Statutory private prosecutions are limited to certain bodies and certain types of offences. In this article, it is submitted that private prosecution must be extended beyond the realm of sections 7 and 8 of the Act or the currently statutory sanctioned private prosecution. It is contended that section 7 of the Act must be amended to include the prosecution of corruption and related offences, on the one hand, and money laundering and related offences, on the other, in the public interest. It is submitted that there are safeguards to avoid private prosecution being abused. Furthermore, the allowance of private prosecution in the private interest would not impinge on the status of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) as the constitutional body mandated to institute prosecutions on behalf of the state. This is because a prospective private prosecutor may institute proceedings only in the event that the NPA declines to prosecute or on the basis of unreasonable delay on the part of the NPA to institute prosecutions.
