This paper presents an experimental study on the behavior of cement stabilized rammed earth (CSRE) column reinforced with steel under axial loading and its comparison with unreinforced and bamboo reinforced columns. Effects of structural parameters such as tie / stirrup spacing on the failure pattern, lateral and axial deformation of columns are studied. Test results show that the load-capacity of columns increases with increase in lateral / tie reinforcement ratio. Maximum axial and lateral deformations occur in columns with least tie spacing. Behavior of CSRE columns reinforced with close tie spacing is characterized by gradual spalling of cover at the failure zone. Steel reinforced columns perform better than other column types in terms of load-capacity; hence it may be used as structural member adjacent to walls for low-rise rammed earth houses. Proposed reinforcement technique can be adopted in the field for enhancement of greater strength and performance of columns.

This study evaluates the effectiveness of three different media in teaching a specific motor skill. Validated lessons utilizing three different media — motion/sound, slide/sound, and story boards — were used to teach basic manipulations of the M203 Grenade Launcher. Written and performance tests, derived directly from the instructional objectives, were used to evaluate the learning. As evaluated by the performance test, learners using motion film performed significantly better than those using either slides or workbooks, and required significantly less time. Written tests, however, failed to detect this difference. These results suggest that much previous research comparing media may have been inconclusive due to defects in experimental design, such as using a written test to measure motor skills taught by visual media.

Abstract In this study, a column with section IPE and different lengths, completely embedded in concrete, is modelled by finite element software ABAQUS. Columns under different bi-axial loading were used and graphs of axial force-axial deformation, interaction axial force, and bending moment and column curve were mapped. The results show that the load capacity of the column, with increasing length and also increasing eccentricity of the axial load, will be reduced. With increasing length, the effect of an increased eccentricity of the reduced load capacity was increased. Equations for the design of the column are also presented. The results of the presented equations were compared with the values obtained from finite element and building national institute 10th topic.

Magnetic fluid has many advantages when serving as lubricant. With an appropriate magnetic field this lubricant can prevent leakage and increase the load capacity of lubricant film. It can also be fixed at the friction zone by applying an external magnetic field. This paper aims to improve the lubrication performance of friction pairs under alternating magnetic fields. The test was conducted on a NG-x reciprocating friction tester. Test results using the magnetic fluid and those using expanded graphite were compared. The tribo-surfaces were obtained in real time. It is concluded that the magnetic fluid lubricant has better lubricating property than the nonmagnetic lubricant (expanded graphite) because it can cling on friction pairs uniformly, and the endurance magnetic fluid lubricant is better than that of nonmagnetic lubricant.

It has been commonly recognized by the international research and practice community that the presence of both outer and inner stirrups may significantly enhance the axial load capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) columns. However, there is limited testing evidence to support this conclusion that has been published nationally. This paper reports an experimental programme to study the effectiveness of stirrup detailing on the structural performance of columns having small sectional dimensions that are common in low-rise building structures. Nine column specimens with the same geometrical dimensions of 220 mm x 220 mm x 880 mm in three batches were detailed with different stirrup categories, have been gradually axially loaded to failure. The test data have revealed that although the presence of stirrups can generally enhance the axial load capacity of the column specimens, the enhancing levels are much dependent to the shapes of the stirrups. Selected interesting aspects of the test results have also been discussed, which set a concrete base for recommendations for design and detailing of such vertical structural elements. Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a telecommunications technology that is able to pass the communication service in Internet Protocol networks so as to allow communicating between users in an IP network. However VoIP technology still has weakness in the Quality of Service (QoS). VOPI weaknesses is affected by the selection of the physical servers used. In this research, VoIP is configured on Linux operating system with Asterisk as VoIP application server and integrated on a Raspberry Pi by using wired and wireless network as the transmission medium. Because of depletion of IPv4 capacity that can be used on the network, it needs to be applied to VoIP system using the IPv6 network protocol with supports devices. The test results by using a wired transmission medium that has obtained are the average delay is 117.851 ms, jitter is 5.796 ms, packet loss is 0.38%, throughput is 962.861 kbps, 8.33% of CPU usage and 59.33% of memory usage. The analysis shows that the wired transmission media is better than the wireless transmission media and wireless-wired.

This paper aims to study for accurate sheet trim shower position for paper making process. An accurate position is required in an automation system. A mathematical model of DC motor is used to obtain a transfer function between shaft position and applied voltage. PID controller with Ziegler-Nichols and Hang-tuning rule and Fuzzy logic controller for controlling position accuracy are required. The result reference explains it that the FLC is better than other methods and performance characteristics also improve the control of DC motor.
