The relevance of the research is determined by the need to find new methods of teaching a foreign language in the context of the transition to an online learning environment, which will contribute to ensuring an appropriate level of development of future specialists' communicative foreign competence. The purpose of the study is to determine the features of the development of students' phonetic competence in online German classes on the example of the pedagogical activity of teachers of the I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University. The study of the selected problems was carried out in two stages based on logical and system approaches using general scientific methods, including the method of analysis, synthesis, comparison, concretisation, systematisation, and the method of analogies. It was identified that the modern educational space is characterised by the digitalisation of the educational process, as a result of which approaches to teaching a foreign language are changing. The paper considers foreign practices of using multimedia technologies in foreign language classes to form students' auditory and pronunciation skills in online learning. The necessity of changing the conventional methods of teaching an introductory phonetic course in a foreign language according to the requirements of distance learning was substantiated. It was established that the key factor in the development of auditory and pronunciation skills in online German classes is the use of video and audio materials (video conferences and messengers), animated images of articulation of sounds, as well as a system of exercises for the practical application of the theoretical knowledge obtained. On the example of teaching an introductory phonetic course in German for first-year students of the Department of International Relations of the I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University, the basic principles of using mobile applications in the process of distance learning, including Padlet, LearningApps, Voki, PicVoice, and ChatterPix are described. The prospects for further research lie in the practice of using the online environment of an introductory German phonetic course among students of related specialisations

The article explores the concept of blended learning in foreign language teaching as a new pedagogical formula that combines distance learning through digital media with classroom learning, which provides for a "co-presence" of students and teachers, and transforms learning. The use of this type of learning solves several important tasks: 1) transition to a student-centered approach built on greater self-organization of students, formation of their ability to active, productive learning; 2) defining the important role of the teacher as a co-organizer of the educational process who is able to encourage dialogue, communication in the classroom and in self-study; 3) redistribution of the workload of teachers according to the new requirements: more time to prepare for the education process and research, contributing to their commitment to professional self-development. To elaborate a blended model of foreign language teaching for Ukrainian students, the experience of face-to-face teaching and online foreign language teaching at Oles Honchar University and the models of blended learning proposed by the Clayton Christensen Institute were analyzed, and one blended learning model known as the «lab rotation model» was proposed as the most suitable. It provides for classroom work offline as synchronous learning, and individual work online (on the learning platform) as asynchronous leaning, as well as the integration of individual learning and face-to-face learning in group formats, which will provide adaptive, more individualized training of students. It is proposed to supplement this model with elements of the «flipped classroom» model when students receive basic learning material and instructions online, and work in a more interactive form in the classroom.

The article deals with the peculiarities of the educational process in a technical University in order to increase the motivation of students through learning a foreign language. The concepts of «motive» and «motivation» in a broad sense of the word are revealed, and in particular, the concept of «motives of scientific activity» is given through the prism of the classification of personal motives. The paper analyzes the provisions on this issue, described in the works of such researchers as D. B. Bogoyavlenskaya, J. Dewey, A. Maslow, D. Halpern, M. G. Yaroshevsky, etc. Most researchers emphasize that the research activity is a creative interaction of the main subjects of the educational process, the result of which is the development of students’ subjectively new knowledge by solving research problems. The aim of this article is to consider the ways of increasing motivation to study disciplines in the profile of training by attracting students to research activity by means of a foreign language. The article proposes a program of involvement of students in research activity taking into account modern requirements for professional training of University graduates. The article is based on research results, questionnaires, observations and a survey conducted among first-year and second year students and the first-year students in the master’s program of the Polytechnic University, those who continue studying English.

Educational life worldwide has been shaken by the closure of schools due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The ripple effects have been felt in the way both teachers and students have adapted to the constraints imposed by the new online form of education. The present study focuses exclusively on the beneficiaries of the educational process and aims to find out their perceptions of face-to-face and e-learning and their desire to return, or not, to the traditional form of education. These perceptions are represented by 604 students of the Politehnica University of Timisoara, who were asked to respond anonymously to an 8-question questionnaire between December 2020 and February 2021. The results show the respondents’ levels of desire to return to school (especially of those who have only benefited from e-learning) and their degree of involvement during online classes. The results also specify the advantages and disadvantages of the two forms of education from a double perspective, namely that of first-year students (beneficiaries of e-learning exclusively), and of upper-year students (beneficiaries of both face-to-face and e-learning). The study points out key information about e-learning from the students’ perspectives, which should be considered to understand the ongoing changes of the educational process and to solve its specific problems, thus ensuring its sustainability.

The article shows the expediency and significance of the work on social-pedagogical adaptation of first-year students of higher educational institutions under the new sociocultural conditions of our time. The search for effective ways of harmonizing the relations (interaction) with the social environment, being the basis for successful socialization and professional training of a future specialist, plays an important role under imperfect organizational and pedagogical support of social-pedagogical adaptation of the first-year students of higher educational institutions. The objective of the research is to theoretically substantiate and experimentally verify the effectiveness of pedagogical conditions of successful social-pedagogical adaptation of the first-year students of higher educational institutions. The research uses theoretical methods (theoretical analysis, generalization and synthesis), empirical methods (observation, questioning, conversation); experimental work; the Student’s criterion and correlation analysis were used as methods of mathematical processing of experimental data. To provide the process of social-pedagogical adaptation of the first-year students, the authors propose the following pedagogical conditions for successful adaptation of the first-year students, allowing, from the viewpoint of integrity of the social-pedagogical adaptation processes, to design and implement the group and individual strategies of the personal trajectories of students’ self-development, and to simultaneously solve the tasks of social, personal and professional development of future specialists: 1) the ability of the university professor to assist a student in their self-cognition, stimulating their personal self-development through motivating their interest in the chosen profession basing on pedagogy of cooperation, creating adequate conditions for expanding the possibility of personally significant and professional qualities of each student; 2) organization of an educational environment aimed at reducing anxiety, apprehension, inner discomfort, where a student realizes themselves as a team member, feels comfortable, which ensures the transformation of the structural components of professionalism as socially important qualities into personal ones; 3) social-pedagogical adaptation of the first-year students becomes an integral part of the university, when the student, without continuous internal and external conflicts, successfully carries out any activity in the educational environment in the context of personality-activity approach, and serves as a means for students to develop adequate self-esteem, advanced self-regulation, and high productivity, which is the basis for the development of activity, independence, and creativity. The authors provide the ways of implementing the revealed pedagogical conditions and the results of the formative experiment, which lead to the following conclusions: active social-pedagogical intervention, timely correction of the educational process, aimed at effective adaptation of the first-year students, through personal interaction basing on pedagogy of cooperation, ensures rapid adaptation of students in a new educational environment, which leads to value attitude to their future profession.
