<p class="0abstract">Context-aware mobile applications can adapt to different mobile, user and application contexts. Mobile cloud computing has been integrated with those applications to benefit from the cloud resources and make up for the limited mobile resources. This paper proposes such an application for the assessment and training of student visual cognitive abilities and skills that constitute an integral part of student intelligence such as the visualization ability of recognizing rotated objects. The need to ubiquitously and continuously deliver exercises relevant to a specific visual cognitive ability or skill according to the student proficiency and context has stimulated proposing the context-aware cloud-based MObile application for assessment and training of visual Cognitive Abilities (MOCA) presented in this paper. Integrating cloud computing with MOCA allows creating an extendible repository on the cloud and saving the relatively limited mobile resources that would be consumed by visual material. MOCA can be used in applications that are based on such cognitive abilities such as teaching visual science concepts and the visual classification and diagnosis of medical images. Two prototype mobile applications have been developed based on MOCA for visualization ability and for visual classification of science concepts. Empirical evaluation has shown the effectiveness of MOCA in training the students and the satisfaction of the students and teachers with its capabilities. MOCA is also a framework for building systems for other types of cognitive abilities.</p>

Rapid advancements in the infrastructure of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have led to radically new but ubiquitous technology; cloud computing. Cloud computing has gracefully emerged offering services that possess on-demand scalability, huge computing power, and a utility-like availability, all at a relatively low cost. It has unsurprisingly become a paradigm shift in ICT, gaining adoptions in all forms of application i.e., personal, academic, business, or government. Not only for its cost-effectiveness but also for its inherent ability to meet business goals and provide strategic ICT resources. More recently there have been advances in cloud computing leading to the evolution of newer commercial cloud services, one of which is the Mobile backend as a Service (MBaaS). The MBaaS is important and required for a robust mobile application back-end data storage and management. Its wide adoption and importance stem from its ability to simplify application development and deployment. Also, MBaaS is robust, with the ability to cope with errors by providing nifty tools and other features. These enable rapid scaffolding of mobile applications. This paper reviews Mobile backend as a Service (MBaaS) and provides required background knowledge on some cloud services and their providers to enable stakeholders to make informed decisions and appropriate choices.

Abstract Objectives Visual cognitive performance (VCP) is an important factor in high-speed interactions with the environment such as sports or driving, however, the testing, training and determination of factors that influence this ability has been elusive. Iron intake from heme sources has been shown to prevent altered metabolic processes, reductions in protein and neurotransmitter synthesis, and cognitive abilities and neural functions. The purpose of this study is to determine whether chronic dietary iron intake explain the large difference in VCP and training responses between healthy individuals. Methods Men and women age 18–35 completed 15 visual cognitive training sessions (Neurotracker) in 10 visits to the laboratory. On the days of training, all food intake was documented (Nutribase) along with measures of body composition, blood pressure, hydration status, sleep patterns, and recent exercise. Mean nutritional intakes were calculated for the 10 days of food records. Total daily intakes of iron were also calculated for each of the 10 days of food records. Results Iron intake was significantly associated to VCP (P &lt; 0.001) in women (N = 52) but not men (N = 36). VCP improved progressively with dietary iron intake in women from low (iron: 8.2 ± 1.2 mg/day, VCP: 1.38 ± 0.22, N = 24), medium (iron: 13.4 ± 1.3 mg/day, VCP = 1.59 ± 0.38, N = 21) to high (20.9 ± 3.8 mg/day, VCP = 1.86 ± 0.33, N = 7) in which all groups were all significantly different from each other (P &lt; 0.05). Conclusions These results suggest that intakes of iron at or above the RDA may be essential to optimize VCP. Funding Sources National Cattlemen's Beef Association.

These days we are witnessing many mobile applications based on the recommended systems, which have become a great technology which is been used by the various mobile applications according to the situation. Recommendation provided by the mobile application is a key element for the person who is traveling to several places. For any tourist information application contextual information is much needed to guide the user on his interests this can be achieved by the Context-aware computing. Which provides the user most interactive system with the suggestions provided by it based on the input from the user in a certain location, here context includes the user’s mental, social, physical environments. To achieve this contextual information, we will design and implement the context-aware user interface based on the user for which we have to study the user and design a rich user interface. The final outcome for which users have the satisfaction when using context-aware functionality will be much better than non-context-aware application.

Companies are now recognizing that their employees require a spectrum of mobile applications in order to achieve maximum efficiency at the workplace. Mobile applications such as WeChat, Twitter and WhatsApp via smartphones have become influential tools and extensively used by employees at the workplace. This state-of-the-art technology in communication has penetrated various fields, including routine administrative jobs at the workplace. The objective of this research is toinvestigate the acceptance of the WhatsApp mobile application for formal use among support staff at The Commission of the City of Kuching North, Sarawak (DBKU). Perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and behavioral intention of the users in using WhatsApp are the variables measured for job performance. The researchers utilized convenience sampling, whereby a total of 105 employees from two departments participated in the investigation. Data was collected using a set of selfadministered questionnaires which was adapted from Davis. The findings revealed that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of WhatsApp as a means of communication were significant for job performance at DBKU. The employees felt more competent during their formal interaction at the workplace as less effort was needed while using WhatsApp. The existence of features which were user-friendly and easy operational functions helped to create positive attitudes when utilizing the application. Faster feedback, ease of use, and convenience were some of the reasons for the employees’ willingness to use WhatsApp for communication at the workplace.

M-Commerce has become distinguished in Indian people, quickly during last few years. Due to large number of mobile application, growth rate in mobile penetration in India is increasing with the rapid speed. The mobile users has shifted to use the android phone from simple and black and white phone and taking the service of internet, the role of telecom companies is also important in the being popular of mobile commerce. Although many people have started E-Commerce but still a separate part of the society feel uncomfortable and hesitate to use M-Commerce because of security problems, payment issues and complexity of mobile applications. This paper identifies facts about the feasibility of MCommercein India today its growth and the Strength and opportunity, weakness and threats lying ahead.

BACKGROUND Diligent wear of removable orthodontic retainers requires prolonged compliance and is invariably necessary to preserve optimal results. Patient-informed behaviour-change interventions represent a promising and novel means of enhancing compliance with retainer wear. OBJECTIVE To describe the development of a patient-informed mobile application aimed to enhance retainer wear. METHODS Four aspects were considered during mobile application development: participant preferences; analysis of publicly-available retainer-related posts on Twitter; available interventions; and behaviour-change theories. Audio-recorded one-to-one interviews were conducted with a subset of participants to account for patient preferences in terms of features, design and content. A criterion-based purposive sample of participants wearing vacuum-formed retainers for at least 4 years was used. Thematic analysis of transcribed data was undertaken. RESULTS The need to facilitate communication with the treating clinician, responsive reminder and tracking systems, and access to useful and engaging written and visual information, in addition to other personalised and interactive features were considered important. Concerns related to retainer wear shared on Twitter informed an exhaustive list of frequently-asked questions. Application features were mapped to relevant theoretical constructs. Determinants of existing behavioural change theories were used to link application features to expected outcomes. CONCLUSIONS A holistic process involving both patient and professional input can be useful in informing the development of mobile applications. The orthodontic application (“My Retainers”) will undergo further scrutiny in relation to its effectiveness in inducing behavioural change and concerning patient experiences prior to finalisation.

The aim of this pilot study was to investigate the acceptability of an oral health-related mobile application developed for young children based on the feedback given by the children and their parents. Another aim was to evaluate the self-reported change in children’s oral health behaviors during a short test period. The application—a virtual pet integrated into a child’s daily routines—aimed to promote oral hygiene and dietary behaviors in children. A total of 36 4–12-year-old voluntary children were given a mobile phone with the installed application. After the 5-week testing period, the feasibility of the application and possible changes in the children’s oral health behaviors were asked using an electronic questionnaire. Most of the children considered the application clear (n = 34), amusing (n = 31), and useful (n = 29). The children’s tooth brushing manners improved both qualitatively and quantitatively: the time used for tooth brushing increased and the children learned how to brush different tooth surfaces. Mobile applications can be fun and useful in oral health promotion; while playing, children can learn good oral health-related behaviors. Mobile applications integrate oral health promotion into children’s daily environment and routines.

AbstractIn the Internet of Things (IoT) era, the capacity-limited Internet and uncontrollable service delays for various new applications, such as video streaming analysis and augmented reality, are challenges. Cloud computing systems, also known as a solution that offloads energy-consuming computation of IoT applications to a cloud server, cannot meet the delay-sensitive and context-aware service requirements. To address this issue, an edge computing system provides timely and context-aware services by bringing the computations and storage closer to the user. The dynamic flow of requests that can be efficiently processed is a significant challenge for edge and cloud computing systems. To improve the performance of IoT systems, the mobile edge orchestrator (MEO), which is an application placement controller, was designed by integrating end mobile devices with edge and cloud computing systems. In this paper, we propose a flexible computation offloading method in a fuzzy-based MEO for IoT applications in order to improve the efficiency in computational resource management. Considering the network, computation resources, and task requirements, a fuzzy-based MEO allows edge workload orchestration actions to decide whether to offload a mobile user to local edge, neighboring edge, or cloud servers. Additionally, increasing packet sizes will affect the failed-task ratio when the number of mobile devices increases. To reduce failed tasks because of transmission collisions and to improve service times for time-critical tasks, we define a new input crisp value, and a new output decision for a fuzzy-based MEO. Using the EdgeCloudSim simulator, we evaluate our proposal with four benchmark algorithms in augmented reality, healthcare, compute-intensive, and infotainment applications. Simulation results show that our proposal provides better results in terms of WLAN delay, service times, the number of failed tasks, and VM utilization.
