Information and Communication Technology and Language Education

This chapter introduces the definition of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and its concise history along the development of three generations of computers from 1940s to now. It then summarizes the influence of ICT on language education in general. Standalone computer software facilitates the knowledge and skills acquirement and transformation in language learning, including vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking, and boosts motivation and interest. The Internet and mobile technology supply not only unlimited resources and practice opportunities but also authentic communication via text or speech for language learners worldwide. Intelligent computer-assisted language learning programs can analyze the learners' text and speech syntactically and semantically, formulate corresponding responses, and provide comprehensive language resources and support. It is equally important to realize that language learning can improve the learner's information literacy, including the knowledge and skill to acquire and apply ICT in daily life, learning, and work.

UTILIZATION OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) IN MATHEMATICS LEARNING. The aims of this study are (1) to explain the definition of Information and Communication Technology (ICT); (2) to explain the importance of ICT used in Mathematics Learning; (3) to describe how much ICT used in Mathematics Learning in indoensia; (4) to elaborate the positive and negative effects of implementing ICT used in Mathematics learning. The methods used are literature review and description of interviews to educators and learners in the field of mathematics education. Information and Communication Technology is an electronic equipment consisting of hardware and software as well as any activities related to processing, manipulation, management, and transfer of information between media. It has has a function to produce quality and communicative information. In Indonesia, the use of Information and Communication Technology is still in integrating level, shown by the use of technology in learning. The utilization of information technology, in addition to efforts to overcome the technical problems of learning as a learning medium, as well as an effort to answer the substantial problem of learning as a source of teaching and encourage computer literacy acceleration in Indonesian society.

This paper analyzes the reciprocal influences between various teaching methodologies supported by information and communication technology (ICT) and the teaching objectives that are pursued by means of these methodologies. The authors present the main characteristics of the conceptual model which has led to the definition of the teaching objectives and the results of the experience of the “eLearning@LIUC” project, where the validity of the hypotheses underlying the model has been tested through their application within concrete contexts. They believe that the presented model, with its analysis of the possible correlations between teaching objectives, teaching methodologies and technological tools, can provide a new awareness of the opportunities offered by the adoption of ICT in teaching.

In education, an increasing number of students with disabilities make use of assistive technologies (AT). Meanwhile, a recent but growing literature studies this concept. Despite this interest both in research and practice related to these technologies, several clues point to the difficulty of distinguishing it from and the information and communication technology (ICT), particularly in education. Are AT a distinct concept or a variation of ICT? What are the consequences of such a confusion? How can we differentiate these two concepts? The purpose of this article is to provide some answers to these questions.

AbstractInformation and Communication Technology advancement has made the method of practice across different industries and businesses record fundamental changes in various dimensions and levels. The construction industry is determined to measure up with other industries in this and has since embraced the use of computer software to perform most, if not all of its activities. It is generally known that this software is not cheap and they require special skill to use. This research study is aimed at developing a computerised template for material and labour schedules for some selected items of work in construction using Microsoft Excel. This is an inexpensive way of estimating to save cost while eliminating the traditional method. The study adopted a mixed research method that involved observation of labourers on-site and validation through a questionnaire survey. The personal observation was carried out and labour outputs were recorded which was used together with material constants in developing the bill of material and labour template. The template was validated by practising Quantity Surveyors for ongoing projects and an average of 92% accuracy was recorded. It was concluded that the template can enhance the accuracy of Quantity Surveyors’ estimate of materials and labour for construction projects.

This piece of research highlights a contextual understanding of employee performance’s concept by identifying factors affecting employee performance in the organization. This achieved through analyzing literature in ISI (Web of Knowledge) from 2015 until 2019, after that determine factors influencing employee performance. The definition of employee performance is given, furthermore, the description of each factor which has an influence on employee performance. The result indicates that knowledge management, information and communication technology, employee’s empowerment, innovation and creativity and organization culture have a significant impact on employee performance. On the other hand, the correlation between these factors has a vital role in maintaining employee’s performance and attitude.

Information and communication technology (ICT) can improve productivity and reduce costs / expenses in the agricultural sector and rural development. Jatinangor is one of sub-district on Sumedang with the highest economic growth, where the agricultural sector ranks third in contributing the economy. The use of ICT for farmers in Jatinangor it was not known the degree to which capable of being applied, then need to know the level of use of ICT by Jatinangor farmers. Method used in this research was descriptive method that described the data to determine size of the ICT usage level. Data is formulated into index numbers of ICT usage level or Information and Communication Technology Usage Level Quotient Index which was obtained by formulating an operational definition of variable using analysis of UNDP index calculation and Location Quotient analysis. The results of the study showed that the measurement of the ICT usage level covering by 4 indicators: farmers characteristic, farmers environment, ICT characteristic, and farmers behavior. Farmers group has the highest of the ICT use in Jatinangor is Harapan I, in Bina Karya Mandiri, Cileles Village with an index of 1,1380, and ICT absorption level of 50 %. Farmers group has the lowest of the ICT use is Jeruk Mipis, in Mulya Jaya, Cipacing Village with an index of 0,9156, and ICT absorption level of 36 %.
