Sustainable Framework to Attract, Develop, and Retain Global Talent

Effective talent management is essential for ‘competitive edge and future survival' (Marchington & Wilkinson, 2012, p. 200). Moreover, volatile economic context makes talent management more crucial to organisational success. Similarly attracting, developing and retaining talent particularly managerial, professional and technical in a sustainable way is herculean task indeed. With a growing problem of limited specialist and technical skills in the labour market there is definitely going to be escalated ‘war for talent', Both male and female leadership talent might be warranted for organisational success and economic development. There is also a considerable body of research suggesting a link between language, communication and how gender – and leadership – gets ‘done' in organisations. This chapter through grounded research and in depth literature review intends to discuss the current scenario and propose a sustainable framework to attract develop and retain global talent in particular. It is hoped that the chapter contributes and add to the talent management knowledge base.

Today, no country can claim that its business can be local or national due to the effects of globalization. The world of business has become international. In this new millennium, few economies can afford to ignore global business opportunities. The globalizing wind has broadened the mind sets of executives, extended the geographical reach of firms, and nudged international business into some new trajectories. One such new trajectory is the concern with national culture. This has a tremendous impact on the subject matter of talent management for any country, economy or nation. Africa is no exception. Though there is a considerable body of research suggesting a link between language, communication and how gender – and leadership – gets ‘done' in organisations, there is very little research on global perspective for managing talent especially in the African context. This chapter intends to fill that gap and in particular deals with global perspective of talent management in the African context.

BACKGROUND Evaluating Health Information System (HIS) quality is strategically advantageous for improving patient care quality. Nevertheless, there is little research evidence identifying and describing what standards, processes, and tools are used to evaluate HIS quality. OBJECTIVE This study aims to illustrate, detail, and discuss the current scenario regarding the standards, norms, processes, and tools used to evaluate HIS quality. METHODS We conduct a systematic literature review (SLR) using review guidelines focused on software and systems. We examined seven electronic databases (Scopus, ACM, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, IEEE Xplorer, the Web of Science and PubMed) to search and select primary studies. Three researchers and three collaborators participated in the review and quality assessment process of the studies. RESULTS We identified 17 primary studies that have been published in journals and conferences. We found that most of the primary studies address quality evaluation from a management perspective. Second, there is little explicit and pragmatic evidence on the processes and tools that allow evaluation of HIS quality. CONCLUSIONS To promote quality evaluation of HISs, it is necessary to define mechanisms and methods that operationalize the standards and norms of HISs. Additionally, it is necessary to create metrics that measure the quality of the most critical components and processes of HISs. CLINICALTRIAL Does not apply to our study

Improving the poor’s overall quality through education and promoting local economic development and social progress is an important way for China to alleviate poverty. At present, China has formed a policy system of poverty alleviation by education with its characteristics and has achieved remarkable results. This article first elaborates the definition and impact of poverty alleviation by education, and then through the use of literature review and other research methods, it combs the policies of China’s poverty alleviation by education in different historical periods. The aim is to summarize China’s poverty alleviation by education, analyze possible policy problems, and finally make constructive suggestions for its future development.

ABSTRACT This paper presents the partial results of an ongoing research on the proposal of a methodology for the integration between Knowledge Management (KM) and World Class Manufacturing (WCM). The initial investigation of theoretical and conceptual nature aimed at developing a comprehensive and current vision on KM, WCM, and how (or "whether") these constructs relate to one another. The primary sources for the literature review were Web of Science, Scopus, Emerald, Ebsco, SciELO and Spell, and the time frame was 2000 to 2016. The analysis of the selected papers showed that, although the initial WCM model evolved into a "new WCM" in the 2000s, the literature is still focused on the broad conceptual aspects and basic methods and tools, such as Total Quality Process, Total Productive Maintenance and Just-in-Time, conceived in the Toyota Production System, which shows the need for more studies focused on the current scenario of companies associated with the "new WCM" and its Methods and Tools. Only one article explicitly addressing the interaction between KM theories with WCM was found in the databases surveyed, thus reinforcing the lack of theoretical approximation of these constructs.

Entrepreneurship has been deliberated as multidimensional and multidisciplinary study. From the economic point of view entrepreneurship is the central force for economic development for any nation. Scholars and policy makers now have started to see entrepreneurship as panacea for inclusive growth. Entrepreneurships are most widely popular and discussed area. Study on small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) has been maturing for the last decade as it has been regarded as significant player for the social development along with the economic development. In Bangladesh, SMEs account for a large proportion of the total establishments in various sectors. Considering the importance of the SME sector in Bangladesh, this study intends to explore and sketch-out the landscape of current SME setting in Bangladesh. With this aim the study has extensively carried out literature review, observed and understood the secondary data obtained from various organizations, and finally presented a policy driven recommendation (micro and macro level) which would enable to develop the SME sector in a developing country like Bangladesh.

The entrepreneur is regarded as a driver of economic development encouraging researchers to delve into the causes that lead some people to choose the entrepreneurial activity. The response has followed two approaches: biological and sociological. The former privileges non-cognitive skills while the sociological favors factors are associated with learning and contextual conditions. Thus, the question arises: Is behavior determined by non-cognitive skills or can it be 'shaped' throughout an individual's lifetime? Using an exploratory approach supported by a literature review and contacts with the Portuguese (context under analysis) educational system, the authors aim to understand which skills are critical, the way they are acquired and developed, and the role the educational system plays in their development, concluding that entrepreneurial activity implies cognitive and non-cognitive skills which the system must deliver provided the teachers' training in advance.

Indian economy post-COVID 19 pandemic may witness a massive reengineering of all its economic activities. Some will cherish the change, while others will perish over time. The post-pandemic scenario will have a drastic impact across industries and sectors regardless of their scale or size. The magnitude of impact on SMEs and entrepreneurship is unfathomable considering the prevailing intensity of the crisis. SMEs should come up with plausible innovation and talented human force to sustain in the market. The enterprises should develop and nourish ‘talent culture' and should focus on ‘talent', which remains the most neglected component in Indian SMEs until today. Hence, adopting an exploratory approach with a systematic literature review, the chapter focuses on positioning the importance of talent management and its components in the SME framework to manage the post-pandemic crisis. In the process, the chapter deliberates on the key strategies for rearing SMEs through proper management of critical talent and human resources.

There are a rapidly growing number of scientific studies analyzing the role of university and higher educational institutions in regional economic development. In this study, the author reviews the rapidly growing body of research streaming out of the geography of innovation and knowledge with particular attention to the period from 1994 to 2019. The author discusses several seminal contributions on the role of universities in regional economic development and then applies a systematic literature review to the extant research of 193 articles. This literature review offers a conceptual framework by identifying four key topics found in the literature: organizational capacity, intermediaries, knowledge dynamics, and policy.
