This chapter uses cognitive theory of information processing to demonstrate the role of visual learning in the context of reading and writing. According to the theory, individuals do not take a singular approach to processing information. Rather, they experience the world through visual and verbal channels. Information is then organized by working memory into more comprehensive models—the visuo-spatial sketchpad and the phonological loop. The author considers pedagogical strategies for writing instruction that rely on the multimedia principle, which states that our minds work best when learning combines the visual with the aural. The specific mission of the chapter is to show how the multimedia principle can benefit writing instruction in three different contexts: 1) reading and writing comprehension, 2) narrative writing, and 3) grammar usage. The chapter concludes with the suggestion that learning through images is not just a cultural phenomenon, but also a scientific one.

Dans nombre de ses biographies imaginaires, parmi lesquelles Monsieur Melville (1978) et James Joyce, l’Irlande, le Québec, les mots (2006) occupent une place de choix, Victor-Lévy Beaulieu se dote d’une posture d’écrivain singulière en construisant un double fictionnel à son image, Abel Beauchemin, chargé de jouer le rôle de son créateur en poursuivant le projet intellectuel de ce dernier, celui d’une quête de l’écriture et de l’être québécois, mais aussi d’une connaissance de soi et du monde par la lecture-écriture. À la faveur d’extraits du Melville et du Joyce, ouvrages qui réfléchissent (sur) la lecture et l’écriture tout en mettant en scène leurs processus croisés, cet article se propose de cerner l’image particulière qu’Abel Beauchemin, le personnage-narrateur, construit de lui-même dans son discours, afin de montrer en quoi la représentation de soi que constitue l’ethos oratoire participe d’une stratégie de persuasion quelque peu détournée, grâce à laquelle il s’agit en quelque sorte, selon l’expression d’Aaron Kibédi-Varga, de « diriger les passions ».AbstractIn several of his imaginary biographies, among which Monsieur Melville (1978) and James Joyce, l’Irlande, le Québec, les mots (2006) are particularly important, Victor-Lévy Beaulieu adopts a singular writer’s posture by constructing a fictional double, Abel Beauchemin, who plays the role of his creator carrying out his intellectual quest for writing and for the Québécois soul, as well as for a knowledge of self and of the world through reading/writing. By way of excerpts from Melville and from Joyce, works that reflect on reading and writing and on the intricate relationship between the two, this article aims to define the image that Abel Beauchemin, the narrator, proposes of himself. In so doing, we intend to demonstrate that the representation of the self through the discourse ethos is part of an indirect strategy of persuasion whose function is, as Aaron Kibédi-Varga’s would say, to “steer the reader’s passions”.

Abstract.HOSTILE BEHAVIORS IN ADOLESCENTS: EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION TEACHERSThe hostile behaviors in adolescents are a growing reality in the world being necessary to investigate their causes and think about interventions in the various contexts of lifeObjective: Outline appropriate intervention strategies to adolescents, in close liaison with teachers for prevention and promotion of healthy behaviors.Methods: Qualitative study of phenomenological nature inscribed in naturalistic paradigm involving a sample of 35 class directors of the secondary schools in the city of Viseu. The data collection is made through a questionnaire, consisting of open response questions: characterization; teachers’ opinions about the formal educational interventions, practiced and recommended; role of the nurse in the school.Results: class directors consider that the pedagogical strategies enacted by the Ministry of Education, are not effective in the facing of hostile behaviors in adolescents, stating that the pedagogical strategy they most utilize is the dialogue; Pedagogical strategies recommended are in school interventions, followed by interventions directed to parents and “creating Health Office” being the nurse one of the trainers sensitizing the entire educational community about this issue.Conclusions: Support for the development of protective factors is of paramount importance in the prevention of hostile behaviors reducing its prevalence. We suggest the implementation of intervention programs based on promotion of non-violent environments and behaviors involving theentire educational community.Keywords: hostile Behaviors; Adolescents; Teachers; Intervention strategies.Resumo.Os comportamentos hostis em adolescentes são uma realidade crescente no mundo sendo necessário investigar as suas causas e pensar intervenções nos diversos contextos de vida.Objetivo: Delinear estratégias intervenção adequadas aos adolescentes, em estreita ligação com os professores para a prevenção e promoção de comportamentos saudáveis.Métodos: Estudo qualitativo, de natureza fenomenológica inscrito no paradigma naturalista, envolvendo uma amostra de 35 diretores de turma das Escolas Secundárias da cidade de Viseu. A colheita de dados foi realizada através de um questionário, constituído por questões de resposta aberta: caracterização; opinião dos professores acerca das intervenções educativas formais, praticadas e recomendadas; papel do enfermeiro no meio escolar.Resultados: Os diretores de turma consideram que as estratégias pedagógicas emanadas pelo Ministério da Educação, não são eficazes face aos comportamentos hostis em adolescentes, afirmando que a estratégia pedagógica a que mais recorrem é o diálogo; As estratégias pedagógicas mais recomendadas são as intervenções intraescolares, seguidas das intervenções direcionadas para os encarregados de educação e “Criação de gabinete de saúde” sendo o enfermeiro um dos formadores sensibilizando toda a comunidade educativa sobre esta problemática.Conclusão: O apoio ao desenvolvimento de fatores protetores é de primordial importância na prevenção de comportamentos hostis reduzindo a sua prevalência. Sugerimos a implementação de Programas de intervenção baseados na Promoção de comportamentos e ambientes não violentos envolvendo toda a comunidade educativa.Palavras-Chave: Comportamentos hostis; Adolescentes; Professores; Estratégias de Intervenção.

Penelitian dengan judul “Simbolisme Hujan dalam novel Hujan karya Tere Liye” ini diteliti dengan menggunakan metode semiotik. Untuk mendapatkan kesatuan makna simbolisme hujan dalam novel tersebut digunakan teori semiotik Riffaterre dan teori-teori pendukung lainnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk : (1) mendeskripsikan hipogram dalam novel Hujan karya Tere Liye, (2) mendeskripsikan makna “hujan” dalam novel Hujan karya Tere Liye berdasarkan pembacaan heuristik dan hermeneutik, dan (3) mendeskripsikan peran simbol “hujan” dalam novel Hujan terhadap pembentukan makna dan estetika. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan sumber data penelitian ini adalah teks yang berupa novel Hujan karya Tere Liye. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini adalah teknik baca dan catat. Hasil penelitian ini yaitu mengetahui hipogram potensial berupa bencana yang terjadi tahun 2015 dan hipogram aktual novel Hujan yaitu novel yang pernah diterbitkan sebelumnya yang berjudul Rindu. Makna “hujan” dalam novel Hujan karya Tere Liye berdasarkan pembacaan heuristik bermakna bahwa hujan berkaitan erat dengan bencana alam, sedangkan makna “hujan” dalam novel Hujan berdasarkan pembacaan hermeneutik menghasilkan makna bahwa hujan dapat menimbulkan berbagai perasaan kepada seseorang bergantung situasi yang sedang mereka alami. Berdasarkan peran simbol “hujan” dalam pembentukan makna dan estetika ini menunjukkan adanya keterikatan antara pembentukan makna dan keindahan suatu teks. Dengan demikian, hasil analisis ini dapat dijadikan suatu pengetahuan dan dapat dijadikan suatu gambaran mengenai kehidupan di dunia untuk memikirkan berbagai hal posisif dan negatif yang berhubungan dengan hujan. Pada dasarnya hujan berperan penting dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.   The research titled "Rain Symbolism in Tere Liye's Rain novel" was examined using semiotic method. To get the unity of the meaning of rain symbolism in the novel is used Riffaterre's semiotic theory and other supporting theories. This study aims to: (1) describe the hipogram in Tere Liye's Rain novel, (2) to describe the meaning of "rain" in Tere Liye's Rain novel based on heuristic and hermeneutic readings, and (3) to describe the role of "rain" symbol in the novel Rain Against the formation of meaning and aesthetics. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach with the source data of this research is a text in the form of Tere Liye's Rain novel. Data collection techniques in this research is the technique of reading and writing. The result of this research is to know the potential hypogame of the disaster that happened in 2015 and the actual hipogram of novel Rain that is novel which ever published previously called Rindu. The meaning of "rain" in Tere Liye's Rain novel based on heuristic readings means that rain is closely related to natural disasters, while the meaning of "rain" in the novel Rain based on hermeneutic readings results in meaning that rain can cause feelings to a person depending on the situation they are experiencing that. Based on the role of the symbol "rain" in the formation of meaning and aesthetics it shows the existence of attachment between the formation of meaning and beauty of a text. Thus, the results of this analysis can be used as a knowledge and can be used as a picture of life in the world to think about various posisif and negative things related to the rain. Basically rain plays an important role in everyday life.

Literacy movement is a very important activity in the world of education. This is a serious concern in education in Indonesia because based on the research conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in 2006-2007 shows that Indonesia was in the second ranks lowest in the aspect of reading competency quality. These concerns trigger issues that need to be addressed, among others: (1) How to foster the participation of school residents in the school literacy movement ?, (2) How does the implementation of Batu Akik Model Klawing in growing literacy habits in students? The solution in order to grow the school community in the literacy movement is determined by the school community, namely committees, principals, teachers, administrative staff, parents / guardians of students, and students according to their respective capacities. The implementation is paying attention to reading habits, reading habits of high school students, the relevance of reading and writing habits, and aspects of reading habits. Batu Akik Model Klawing is an acronym for words (Read and Write, Active, Creative, Innovative, and Cooperative). Klawing is an acronym for words (Group, Exercise, Observe, Time, Instructions, Values, and Games). The role of the school community is very much needed in developing the school literacy movement and these activities especially reading and writing can be developed through the strategy of applying Batu Akik Model Klawing.

The paper is devoted to the role of the global financial market in the development of Russian big business. It proves that terms and standards posed by this market as well as opportunities it offers determine major changes in Russian big business in the last three years. The article examines why Russian companies go abroad to attract capital and provides data, which indicate the scope of this phenomenon. It stresses the effects of Russian big business’s interaction with the world capital market, including the modification of the principal subject of Russian big business from integrated business groups to companies and the changes in companies’ behavior: they gradually move away from the so-called Russian specifics and adopt global standards.
