In today's competitive environment managing green, becoming environmentally friendly and sustainable has become main topic for all industries and companies. Therefore, in this chapter it will be addressed how green logistics solutions and practices can help companies to increase their performance with specific practices, cases and results from Turkey's 3PL service providers' side. This chapter will discuss why being green is important for 3PL companies and the benefits of being green from the business and environment side with current data and real life examples. The main purpose of this chapter is to shed light on green performance indicators and to identify benefits of being green for 3PL companies in Turkey.

The objective of this paper is to describe a “step-change” in refining technology being proposed by Tongaat Hulett. This patented technology is termed “GREEN” Refining Technology, where “GREEN” is an acronym for “Greatly Reduced Energy and Equipment Needs”. The name attempts to encapsulate the “environmentally friendly” benefits of reduced energy usage whilst also emphasising the major savings in both energy and capital equipment requirements of the technology. GREEN refining technology aims to substantially (and ultimately totally) replace evaporating crystallization with cooling crystallization in a sugar refinery.

The case under discussion presents a new and innovative framework for implementing preventive service systems that detect potential service malfunctions, attempt to automatically prevent them and notify customers about the results of these operations. Such automated systems may proactively avert service malfunctions and reduce the volume of customer complaints due to service outages. The presented framework is based on four major stages: continuous detection of service delivery infrastructure and equipment, prevention of identified service failures, notification of customers about service failures and follow-up activities. Telco is a major Israeli telecommunications operator that implemented the preventive service methodology and systems to improve the quality of its services to the satisfaction of its largest customers. The model presented in this paper can be utilized by a broad variety of firms and service providers as means for improving the quality of their services, the satisfaction and the loyalty of customers and the ability to retain them for longer periods in an increasingly competitive environment.

In this paper, we introduce a new hub-and-spoke structure for service networks based on round-trips as practiced by some transport service providers. This problem is a variant of Uncapacitated Hub Location Problem wherein the spoke nodes allocated to a hub node form round-trips (cycles) starting from and ending to the hub node. This problem is motivated by two real-life practices in logistics wherein  runaway  nodes and  runaway  connections with their associated economies of scale were foreseen to increase redundancy in the network. We propose a mixed integer linear programming mathematical model with exponential number of constraints. In addition to the separation routines for separating from among exponential constraints, we propose a hyper-heuristic based on reinforcement learning and its comparable counterpart as a variable neighborhood search. <p>This paper investigates the price effect to the charging demand coming from electric vehicles and then evaluates the performance of a pre-reservation mechanism using the real-life demand patterns. On the charging network in Jeju city, the occupancy rates for 3 price groups, namely, free, medium-price, and expensive chargers, are separated almost evenly by about 9.0 %, while a set of chargers dominates the charging demand during hot hours. The virtual pre-reservation scheme matches electric vehicles to a time slot of a charger so as not only to avoid intolerable waiting time in charging stations systematically but also to increase the revenue of service providers, taking into account both bidding levels specified by electric vehicles and preference criteria defined by chargers. The performance analysis results obtained by prototype implementation show that the proposed pre-reservation mechanism improves the revenue of service providers by up to 9.5 % and 42.9 %, compared with the legacy FCFS and reservation-less walk-in schemes for the given performance parameter sets.</p>

Nature-based solutions (NBS) can contribute to equitable and sustainable development across Latin America and the Caribbean and represent an important investment opportunity for national and subnational governments, infrastructure service providers, development banks, and corporations. Examining the status of NBS efforts and results within the region can shed light on what is required to drive more investment towards NBS projects. To chart a pathway forward, this brief provides a regional review of NBS projects, their status, and implications for investment. These NBS projects aim to address a variety of objectives, including securing water supply, improving water quality, reducing landslide risk, and helping to manage urban flooding, river flooding, or coastal flooding and erosion. The projects utilize a broad range of types of NBS, from forest management to coral reef restoration. This brief outlines the difficulties to scaling NBS adoption in the region and identifies strategies to address the challenges moving forward.

The main topic of this chapter is service sustainability. Currently, the modern economy has huge planet-wide sustainability issues. The authors focus on the sustainability of service and propose the perspective of a tripartite value co-creation for achieving service sustainability. In the perspective, service providers collaborate with customers to improve not only their mutual value but also enhance the value of natural capital by establishing a voice for nature in service processes. Questions for changing behavior to achieve sustainability of service are discussed.

Public administration is subject to major changes affecting many countries, such as the need to implement the European Union Services Directive within the entire EU area. This chapter presents theoretical and practical approaches to developing e-Services and e-Government solutions and real experiences in developing two successful projects with great potential to improve complex Government procedures. The Point of Single Contact is an electronic means through which service providers can find information and complete the formalities necessary to doing business there. Each EU member state must have its own PSC, which should be a reliable source of electronic processing of information that should facilitate the interaction of citizens with the public administration. The design and implementation details of an e-Framework for optimizing the relationship between Governments and citizens using eServices will be presented. Evaluation results obtained by integrating a real-life workflow for opening a business in the Romanian environment are shown. Also, in order to optimize automatic data transfers, document workflows, and business reporting of business organizations, an e-Services system is used.

The market of Internet service providers (ISPs) is highly competitive. Although many different pricing schemes could be deployed in this market, two types are mainly offered: flat rate pricing and per-minute pricing. These pricing schemes are criticised for limiting ISPs’ revenues and for not addressing customer’s requirements on service quality. We focus on the ISPs’ business relationships and on their pricing strategies in order to analyse revenue sharing mechanisms. We argue that the introduction of incentive pricing schemes, such as dynamic pricing, may enable provision of service quality by improving revenue sharing among ISPs.

Today, a company continues its activities in a highly competitive environment regardless of the sector in which it operates. An important point has been emphasized in many developments by experienced managers and academics which have been released to the public. From marketing to finance, human resource management, auditing and planning, all business processes have entered an incredible innovative process. One of the topics in this process is big data. When cumulative data are not used, they cannot transcend being huge piles of garbage. However, it is not possible to analyze such large, complex, and dynamic data via conventional methods. At this point, the concept of big data has emerged. In this study, after the explanation and definition of the concept, a vast literature review was conducted in order to present the relationship of big data with IoT, big data-related topics, and academic researches on big data. Afterwards, real-life enterprise applications were exemplified from various industries.
