Customer Analytics Capabilities in the Big Data Spectrum

Customer analytics plays a vital role in generating insights from big data to improve service innovation, product development, personalization, and managerial decision-making; yet, no academic study has investigated customer analytics capability through which it is possible to achieve sustainable business growth. To close this gap, this chapter explores the constructs of the customer analytics capability by drawing on a systematic review of the literature in the big data spectrum. The chapter's interpretive framework portrays a definitional aspect of customer analytics, the importance of customer analytics, and customer analytics capability constructs. The study proposes a customer analytics capability model, which consists of four principal constructs and some important sub-constructs. The chapter briefly discusses the challenges and future research direction for developing the customer analytics capability model in the data rich competitive business environment.

The necessity for sustainable development, the coronavirus pandemic, and conducting business within the frameworks of the fourth industrial revolution—Industry 4.0 create a challenging environment where enterprises have difficulties to achieve and maintain competitiveness. Information is becoming a core construct when it comes to conducting business in the modern, globalized business environment. In this paper, the influence of information systems (IS) on sustainable business performance and competitiveness is analyzed. Additionally, the influence of human resource management (HRM) and decision making (DM) on sustainable business performance and competitiveness, as two crucial constructs in the new paradigm of conducting business, are addressed. The relations are discussed from the aspect of sustainable development and future post-pandemic business trends. The main goal is to determine the relations between the noted constructs in a transitional setting. In sum, 184 manufacturing enterprises from Republika Srpska were surveyed via a structured survey, where the focus was on quantifying and modeling the influence of IS, HRM, and DM on sustainable business performance. The results indicate that IS, HRM, DM can affect business performance in a transitional economic setting. This approach is novel, as the existing body of literature does not address all the noted influencing factors on sustainable business performance and competitiveness in a transition economy. Hence, this paper significantly contributes to the existing body of literature and provides a solid basis for future research in this domain.

Business models define configurations of activities that jointly enable a firm to create and capture value. The value paradigm is shifting from sharing created value to creating shared value in which firms and societies jointly create and share value to nurture more benefits for a sustainable business-environment symbiosis. Drawing on this logic, we develop a framework for designing business models that enable creation and capture of shared value. Our model builds on the practice theory and activity system and depicts business models as complex adaptive systems that co-evolve with markets. Using the shared value framework proposed by Porter and Kramer (2011) we propose three design themes namely the Product-Market Design (PMD), the Value Chain Design (VCD) and the Social Cluster Design (SCD). We specify features of each school from the activity perspective. Subsequently, we will discuss implications of our framework for theory, practice and management education and illuminate some directions for future research.

Internet banking strategy can be generally very challenging, but more challenging in an economic environment infested with high degree of corruption, insecurity, bad governance, poverty, and financial system instability. Due to its global nature, Internet banking, under such situation, is threatened by the easiness at which off-line crimes are transmitted into online businesses, and the difficulty in building trusts and confidence in online business relationships. Using the Nigerian case, this chapter aims at establishing some theoretical link between offline country image and Internet banking reputation. The chapter summarizes the structural and regulatory challenges in the Nigerian banking system. It represents and relates the country’s socioeconomic conditions with its Internet business reputation; and lays down past regulatory and global efforts to control the menace of the Nigerian version of Internet frauds. The last two sections of the chapter, respectively, suggest some future research direction and conclude the chapter.

In today's world concept sustainable development is the most important aspect of any organization. This paper aims to identify the contribution of the insurance industry and its role in promoting sustainability. Sustainable insurance is aimed primarily at developing innovative or green products and services, reducing risk, improving company efficiency, and supporting environmental, social, and financial sustainability. A blockchain is a distributed, digitized and consensus-based secure information storage mechanism. Blockchain technology moves in the direction of persistent revolution and change. In the last couple of years, the upsurge in blockchain technology has obliged scholars and specialists to scrutinize new ways to apply blockchain technology with a wide range of domains. The dramatic increase in blockchain technology has provided many new application opportunities, including e-voting application. The present article provides a systematic review of emerging blockchain-based e-voting systems. In this paper, we call attention to the open research matters in this fast-growing field, explaining them in some details. In the era of digital globalization, huge volume and variety of data are being produced at a very high rate. Every day, the world is producing around 2.5 quintillion bytes of data. According to IDC, by 2020, over 40 zettabytes of data will be generated and reproduced. Digital data have become a deluge, overwhelming in every field of information technology (IT), business, science and engineering. These fields are shifting to smart and advanced technologies such as smart manufacturing industries, data-aware medical sciences, and other smart applications. These applications are facilitating the industries in context of data-driven decision making, big data storage, and complex analysis of large data sets. Also, these applications are contributing to generate big data deluge where a variety of data necessitate the industries to use advanced IT approaches. 95% of the digital universe is unstructured data. It is rich data as it contains information that can play a vital role to improve big data analytics. The heterogeneity, complexity, lack of structured information, poor quality and scalability of unstructured data generates difficulties in adapting traditional information extraction techniques. Information extraction can play a vital role in transformation of unstructured data into useful information. A multistep pipeline with data preprocessing steps, extraction methods and representation are utmost requirement to improve the unstructured data analytics. In this regard, this paper presents a short review of information extraction process w.r.t. input data type, extraction methods with their corresponding techniques, and representation of extracted information. The issues with unstructured data and the challenges to information extraction from multifaceted unstructured big data as well as the future research directions have also been discussed

Background: Digital and smart supply chains are reforming the food chain to help eliminate waste, improve food safety, and reduce the possibility of a global food catastrophe. The globe currently faces numerous food-related issues, ranging from a lack of biodiversity to excessive waste, and from ill health caused by excessive consumption to widespread food insecurity. It is time to look back at how technology has tackled food supply-chain challenges related to quality, safety, and sustainability over the last decade. Moreover, continuous transformations of the food supply chain into a more sustainable business model with utmost resilience is the need of the hour due to COVID-19 disruptions. Method: This study aimed to systematize literature (2010–2021) in the described context and propose a future research direction, with the assistance of a systematic review and bibliometric analysis on the research agenda proposed above. Results: The findings reveal that technological Industry 4.0 (IR 4.0) tools face specific barriers due to the scope and objective of the application. Conclusion: The Internet of Things has received more attention than any other IR 4.0 tool. More integration between the specialized tools is needed to address this issue. Furthermore, the authors have proposed a food supply chain-based operational framework on technological inclusion to facilitate the roadmap for food supply chain 4.0 for more resilience and food supply chain viability.

Internet of things comprises billions of devices, people, and services, and entitles each to connect through sensor devices. The economic development of a city leads to better life quality and improved citizen services. Thus, this chapter discusses the background of big data, IoT, and smart city. It also discusses the collaborative approach of all the above. The various related work and future research direction for implementing smart city with the concept of big data and IoT would be addressed in this chapter.

SUMMARY Modern audit engagements often involve examination of clients that are using Big Data and analytics to remain competitive and relevant in today's business environment. Client systems now are integrated with the cloud, the Internet of Things, and external data sources such as social media. Furthermore, many engagement clients are now integrating this Big Data with new and complex business analytical approaches to generate intelligence for decision making. This scenario provides almost limitless opportunities and the urgency for the external auditor to utilize advanced analytics. This paper first positions the need for the external audit profession to move toward Big Data and audit analytics. It then reviews the regulations regarding audit evidence and analytical procedures, in contrast to the emerging environment of Big Data and advanced analytics. In a Big Data environment, the audit profession has the potential to undertake more advanced predictive and prescriptive-oriented analytics. The next section proposes and discusses six key research questions and ideas, followed with emphasis on the research needs of quantification of measurement and reporting. This paper provides a synthesis and review of the concerns facing the audit community with the growing use of Big Data and complex analytics by their clients. It contributes to the literature by expanding upon these emerging concerns and providing opportunities for future research.
