The field of e-learning has been a precursor in using the video streaming over the Internet. Both the synchronous and the asynchronous options have been explored over the last decade, with the asynchronous one becoming the dominant paradigm in recent years. Pedagogical research lecture reported evidence that video-streaming is an effective way of teaching, provided certain conditions are met. Technological research has attempted to investigate various ways to better produce or deploy video lectures: video segmentation, summarization, multimodal extraction of text and metadata, semantic search and gesture analysis are among the research areas that were involved. The present paper reviews the main technological research achievements and trends, and suggests directions in which we may be seeing the streaming of lectures to venture in near future.

Due to the growing volume of multimedia data generated these days, it has become extremely difficult to manually analyze the data and extract useful information from it. Especially the analysis of videos pertaining to different fields such as surveillance, videos, social media, education, etc. cannot be done efficiently by manual methods. This requires automatic analysis algorithms that can intelligently analyze videos and derive salient information from them. This information can be useful in a number of tasks such as video segmentation, incident detection, anomaly detection, query-based video retrieval, and content censorship. This chapter provides a detailed review of the techniques proposed for video analysis to provide a compact set of video tags. This chapter considers it a joint tag-segmentation problem and critically analyzes the relevant literature to highlight their respective pros and cons. At the end, potential research areas in this domain and suggestions for improvement are discussed.

The internet is designed for processing and forwarding of any packet in a best effort manner. The packets carried by the internet may be malicious or not. Most of the time, internet architecture provides an unregulated path to victims. Denial-of-service (DoS) attack is the most common critical threat that causes devastating effects on the internet. The Botnet-based DoS attack aims to exhaust both the target resources and network bandwidth, thereby making the network resources unavailable for its valid users. The resources are utilized by either injecting a computer virus or flooding the network with useless traffic. This chapter provides a systematic analysis of the causes of DoS attacks, including motivations and history, analysis of different attacks, detection and protection techniques, various mitigation techniques, the limitations and challenges of DoS research areas. Finally, this chapter discusses some important research directions which will need more attention in the near future to guarantee the successful defense against DoS attacks.

The article presents the results of a study conducted to analyze and evaluate the new pedagogical experience of teachers, received by them in the conditions of distance learning during the period of self-isolation in the spring of 2020. The study was carried out by the method of questionnaires. It was revealed that the majority of teachers assess this period as more difficult in comparison with the period of traditional education, but at the same time consider the experience gained as positive and useful for the future. The teachers noted that they had to master modern digital tools suitable for distance learning (video conferencing services, recording audio and video lectures, online test constructors, etc.), as well as take a fresh look at the capabilities of social networks and messengers and e-learning systems of Udmurt State University. In assessing the degree of mastering by students of educational material in conditions of distance learning, the opinions of teachers differed: most of them believe that students have mastered the material at the same level as in offline conditions or even better, but almost half (44.4 %) noted that there was a decrease in this level. The need to ensure the appropriate quality of education requires finding ways to solve problems arising in the process of distance learning.

This case study describes the use of learning analytics to evaluate the transition of a postgraduate wine business course from face-to-face to online delivery using e-learning course design principles. Traditionally, Foundations of Wine Science lectures were delivered face-to-face, however the decision to transition the course from semester to trimester format presented an opportunity for online delivery of lectures. This was initially achieved through audio recordings, then video lectures, supported by a range of digital learning resources intended to engage, support and enhance student learning and the student experience. Descriptive analysis of learning analytics, comprising assessment results, student evaluations of learning and teaching, and data sourced from the Learning Management System, was performed to evaluate the impact of online delivery of course content on student performance, satisfaction and engagement. The use of audio lecture recordings negatively impacted students’ perception of the overall quality of the course (including course organisation, learning strategies and learning resources). The subsequent implementation of e-learning designed video lectures was considered superior to audio recordings, albeit final grades were not significantly different between the delivery modes. However, student engagement was equal to, or better than face-to-face delivery, when content was designed specifically for an e-learning environment.
