NZmilk is a small, fresh milk supplier that is contemplating using IS to a greater extent to become more competitive. Following deregulation of the industry in 1997, supermarkets and home delivery contractors could purchase milk from wherever they chose, rather than a required local manufacturer. This had opened up both competition and expansion opportunities within the industry. NZmilk recognised that they would have to fight hard to retain and increase their share of the market. They had already lost some of their local market to competitors coming in from outside their region, but had also gained a contract to supply Woolworths supermarkets outside their traditional market area. Improvements to production facilities and distribution systems were in place, but NZmilk knew that a fresh look at how they interacted with their customers would be needed. Their general manager was convinced that information systems had a greater role to play at NZmilk beyond just the accounting and order processing that was presently undertaken. A new direction in using information systems to support NZmilks rapid growth and new strategy was needed, but he was unsure of which way to proceed.

Enterprise systems are becoming more important as they support the efficiency and effectiveness of operations and reduce cost. In this chapter we explored the literature related to production information systems (PIS), enterprise systems, and other applications and their influence in an industrial zone in Jordan. Constructs from the Innovation Diffusion Theory were used, where results indicated that the adoption rate is acceptable and all variables have high means with respect to their evaluation by managers, but only two variable significantly predicted intention to use. In a second study that explored the status of IT usage in manufacturing firms using a different sample, results indicated that accounting information systems were widely used and distribution systems and manufacturing aiding systems were the least used. Other findings, conclusions and future work are stated at the end of the chapter.

The studies to establish the relationship between the external environment and business performance have not produced any conclusive results. Moreover, the field combining environmental uncertainty, information systems (IS) strategy and business performance has not been well explored. Considering the gap in current research, this study conceptualises an information systems environmental alignment model. The model analysed the extent of support provided by IS strategy in the assessment of environmental uncertainty and also examined the impact of IS environmental alignment on business performance. Based on empirical data collected by means of a questionnaire from 22 commercial banks in South Africa (covering more than 90% of the commercial banking sector) and using the Partial Least Squares (PLS) technique, the study validated the IS environmental alignment model and found that banks were using IS support to assess the external environment of business. The results suggest that it is not the IS support or investment in information technology (IT) that impacts on business performance, but rather the effective use of IS support in meeting the information needs of the organisation. The study also found that profitability still remains the key measure of business performance in the banking sector in South Africa. These findings have major implications for IT investment by banks, and for the implementation of IS strategy and general investment in the banking sector. IS environmental alignment is becoming extremely important for business because of the substantial investment in IT and the uncertainty of the business environment.

The North Maluku Wiratama Polytechnic of Science and Technology is a Private campus located in Ternate City, Jati Ternate District, South Ternate, which annually has a large number of alumni graduates and alumni data. However, the data is not maximized because it is not processed more further to be informed and, mainly, for students not knowing information about alumni's specific distribution. After all, there is no system to do this. To overcome these problems, we can utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, where GIS can present information in graphical form using maps as an interface so that alumni's distribution can be explicitly known. This study aims to develop a GIS Web-Based Alumni Data Information System (Geographic Information System) at the North Maluku Wiratama Science and Technology Polytechnic. This research was carried out at the North Maluku Wiratama Science and Technology Polytechnic. Research data collection using documentation and interviews. This study's results can help and make it easier for Wiratama students to find out the distribution systems of Wiratama alumni. Keywords: Information Systems, Alumni Data, Gis Web-Based

This chapter reports an explorative study on the relationship between Information Systems Strategy and the Perception of Project Success. The authors built upon the theoretical foundations of prior research and constructed their conceptual research model from literature. The authors' study defines IS strategy as the degree to which the organization has a shared perspective to seek innovation through IS. The authors operationalize project success by grouping six project success criteria into process-orientation and outcome-orientation. The authors use a quantitative and conclusive descriptive design to study associations between these variables. The type of design they follow is cross-sectional where IS strategy and perceived project success are assayed in a sample of subjects once and the relationships between them are determined. The authors' data is collected using an online questionnaire by a combination of business and IT managers and executives, working at organizations with a certain level of IS maturity. The authors' research finds good support to posit that organizations with an innovative IS strategy are more focused on the outcome of a project than on the project process itself and that organizations with a conservative IS strategy do show some characteristics of a process-oriented view. Furthermore, their research indicates that a more innovative organization relates to a lower perceived importance of Cost and a higher perceived importance of Value and Learning. On the other hand, they find support that a more conservative organization relates to a higher perceived importance of Cost and a lower perceived importance of Use. Next to these findings the authors' study concludes with implications for practitioners and suggestions for further explorative research.

In large, geographically dispersed organizations, achieving a successful Information Systems (IS) strategy can prove very challenging. This case describes how a CIO in such an organization met that challenge by focusing on actions rather than plans, and on bottom-up processes rather than top-down decisions. The CIO keyed on benefitting from employees’ competencies. The organization, here called “NorConstruct,” has few long-term IS strategic plans. Instead, it has developed five different IS strategic themes on a general level. It’s actual IS strategy takes place through different IS projects. The case is told through the CIO and provides rich descriptions of IS strategic processes in NorConstruct, as well as the CIO’s thoughts on the pros and cons. Throughout the case, several relevant reflections are described.

In standard econometric application all variables are analyzed statistically before being used in mathematical models. In this framework we considered non-stationary distribution as an starting procedure on the study of consumer behavior in a local market area whereof non-homogeneity of buyers and small size effect could be present. By evaluation of the degree of non-stationary of the actual state for particular variable as observed, we hope to be able to estimate and interpret the model outcomes. Assuming the non-stationary of variables as indicator of the overall stet itself, we argue that the state where observation were made is non-stationary too, and for that reason, models are expected to not fit well. In the other hand, by dropping the significance level in model fitting process we expect to count for this instability whereas the model remains valid. Herewith, the logistic model for consumer behavior in our system is applied and calculated using significance level 0.85-0.90. Under such limiting constraint assumption we identified the variables that mostly affected the proportion between expense categories and the characteristics of the expenses that mostly describe the market consumer behavior in the unity studied. We hope that methodically this procedure could be helpful for other similar market or socio-metric study as well.

Title: Fish Processing Industry in South Konawe Regency,  South East SulawesiThis study aimed to examine the availability of raw materials and the marketing scale of fish processing industry in South Konawe Regency. This research was conducted in 2017 and 2018 using primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected through questionnaires from 21 respondents. Secondary data were collected from Statistics Indonesia, Fisheries and Marine Affairs Office, and Industry and Trade Affairs of South Konawe Regency. Data were analyzed with descriptive analysis and SWOT analysis. The results found that raw material from local sources is the major force of fish processing industry. However, the fluctuating condition of its availability becomes the weakness. Fermentation, smoked fish, and dried fish processing industries suffer from this raw material problems. In addition, the availability of raw materials also largely depends on fishing results from small-scale traditional fishers. Therefore, the development of the fish industries need some specific improvement in the upstream section through the synergy on policies regarding raw material management from related institutions. Meanwhile, the research finding showed that 24% of business units have penetrated national market 28% have penetrated regional market, while the remaining 48% have only penetrated local market. The local industries were pulverized, smoked fish, fish brine, and some other fish processing industries. Those who could only reach small market area due to limited availability of raw materials are able to use substitute materials in a similar quality of market preferences.
