An Analysis of Teachers' Processes of Technology Appropriation in Classroom

This paper aims to investigate the “sense” of appropriation of the iPad use by teachers in a professional secondary school. As iPads are increasingly employed in the teaching process in classroom the authors intend to understand how the process of teachers' appropriation of iPad use is perceived as a learning tool. Through the analysis of focus groups with teachers, they intend to detect changes in the sense of appropriation of the iPad in classroom during a school year. The findings of their study allow to identify facilitating and hindering elements that support the process of teachers' appropriation of iPads and open further spaces to investigate the role of new technologies in teaching/learning contexts.

This chapter aims to investigate how teachers perceive the usefulness of introducing technological tools (namely, iPad) for the learning/teaching process in a professional secondary school. More specifically, the authors intend to understand how the process of iPad appropriation is identified by the teachers as a learning tool. Through the analysis of focus groups involving different teachers belonging to the same school, the authors intend to detect teachers' self-efficacy and beliefs concerning the appropriation of the use of the iPad in the classroom along a school year. The findings of the study highlight diverse facilitating and hindering elements in the process of teachers' appropriation of such technological tool. The study opens further spaces to examine teachers' and students' perceptions in mastering new technological tools and in building new processes of teaching/learning.

New technologies have invaded our daily lives, and as a consequence the use of computers and internet inside the classroom is progressively more frequent. At the same time, subtitling as a teaching/learning tool has become more popular. For that purpose, scholars such as Delabastita (1989), Sokoli (2006) or Talaván (2013) have been researching how the adaptation of these subtitling methods will have some influence in the learning/teaching process. Thus, the aim of this paper is to present an interlingual subtitling task in a class for English for Specific Purposes students (from a university degree of architecture), in order to improve their receptive skills (commonly known as listening and reading). Along these lines, this paper will explore the use of Task Based Learning in ESP classes and it will propose a teaching unit for further implementation in a university class of English for the degree of architecture, discussing the advantages and repercussions it may have for the acquisition and improvement of the aforementioned passive skills. Learning strategies in the digitalization era are vastly expanding. Students are comprised of the millennials for whom life cannot be separated from technology and the internet. The ever-expanding technology has posed new challenge on the teaching process of millennials, and one of which is the growing importance and increased involvement of technology that empower a host of new learning tools. One of the most prominent open-access teaching/learning tool is Kahoot! This chapter aims to complement studies about the use of game-based methods at higher education. The survey was conducted for 1 year at a university located in a small city in Indonesia. A total of 415 students were actively involved in measuring their perceptions of games-based learning tools called Kahoot! Furthermore, this study also measured differences in outcomes between faculties, types of subjects, and commonly used research methods. The result shows that Kahoot! positively impacts student academic achievement as measured by student motivation, enjoyment, engagement, and concentration.

The future of higher education is intrinsically linked with developments on new technologies and computing capacities of the new intelligent machines. In this field, advances in artificial intelligence open to new possibilities and challenges for teaching and learning in higher education with the potential to fundamentally change governance and the internal architecture of institutions of higher education. The role of technology in higher learning is to enhance human thinking and to augment the educational process, not to reduce it to a set of procedures for content delivery, control, and assessment. With the rise of AI solutions, it is increasingly important for educational institutions to stay alert and see if the power of control over hidden algorithms that run them is not monopolized by tech-lords. This chapter will cover all the positive and negative aspects of AI technologies on teaching, learning, and research in higher education.

The role of libraries today is rooted in their historical mission. At their heart, libraries provide access to knowledge and information. They do so by preserving the cultural and historical record, not only for today, but for generations to come. They support teaching, learning and research by providing access to works, curating collections and ensuring that connections between different materials can be made. Libraries also have a long history of providing physicalspaces for studying, meeting or for exhibitions. They have also provided accessible formats to individuals with print and other disabilities, helping to ensure that everyone can access information. While these activities represent the historical role for libraries, these same endeavors hold true today. Beyond this historic role, libraries today have also evolved to accommodate the new ways of learning that technology has permitted. Ultimately, libraries have adapted to the changing landscape to ensure that they fulfill their missions of preservation and provision of access to knowledge and culture. Through fair use, for example, libraries have been able to adapt to new and emerging technologies.

This research aimed to improve some components of psychomotor by using some therapeutic play activities in Physical Education and Sports lessons. The study was conducted at the „Stefan cel Mare” Gymnasium School in Putna, on five children aged between 7 and 10 years old. This experiment took place during a school year. The research is based on the premise that play (playful activities) conceived as therapy is part of the new trend of teaching-learning methods, which aim to transform the role of the teacher and to give new possibilities to the child with certain psychomotor disorders. The results have highlighted that the application of different ludo-therapy activities in physical education and sport lessons to children without mental deficiencies, but which have different psychomotor disorders, has led to the improvement of some components of psychomotor, namely static and dinamic balance, general coordination, segmental coordination, ocular - motor coordination and spatial orientation.

Abstract Drawing on the distinction between absent and present presences, this article contributes to our understanding of how new managerial and performative discourses are played out in a secondary school context in Sweden. The consequences of numerous educational reforms during the last 20 years include a surge of new independent schools and increased segregation between students due to individual school choice. Following international trends, a yearly national municipal school ranking is published, drawing much attention both in the media and on the policy level, intensifying pressure for results at the municipal level. A case study was conducted in one bottom-ranked Swedish secondary school over the 2012-13 school year, focusing on how relationships between students and staff were negotiated in informal spaces and places. The results illustrate how absent presences and present presences are produced in the practice of schooling. The present presences were publication of results, raising merit scores and grading pressure, and the absent presences were the role of the media in the self-image of schools, increased workload for teachers, the misuse of statistical data and demoralization and determination. The results contribute to the understanding of a) the challenges that teachers and schools are faced with as a consequence of the new managerial and performative discourses in educational settings, and b) the means they draw on to face and resist them in their everyday practices.


In the face of the advance of new technologies that has been occurring and reaching all sectors of society, this article presents a discussion guided by scholars about the changes that are occurring in education. It is important to think of how you can use so many resources available today while providing power changes in the teaching-learning process which until then was seen as something static and conservative. The task of the teacher in the twenty-first century is no longer ready to take the knowledge to the student, but rather has the role of acting as a mediator and facilitator in the process of knowledge construction. The changes that are taking place have led educators to seek knowledge and expertise so that they can perform satisfactorily their role in society.

The aim of research was to verify the effectiveness of implementing the inquiry-based teaching (IBT) into the teaching process of chemistry in secondary school in the phase of revising and deepening the previous-year learning content. The results of the research confirmed a significant difference on the level of knowledge and skills between the experimental group students (N=143) where the IBT was implemented and the control group students (N=149) where traditional teaching methods were implied.  The objective of the study was to characterize the current situation of alcohol and tobacco consumption in secondary school, with a view to the health education, in Cubal, Benguela province, Angola. The study was carried out in the first and second trimester of the school year and the survey to the teacher and student, interviews with school principals and participant`s observation during class and in the playground were used as methods. The sample was taken from the Fist Cycle of Secondary Education at "Kilamba" School and it concluded that teachers and students presented themselves to classes after comsuming alcohol and used to consume tobacco during break time in the court-yard. Although teachers and students were aware of the negative effect of alcohol and tobacco consumption, it was noticed that the problem at issue was not systematically addressed in the teaching-learning process of Geography, which would contribute to the prevention of alcohol and tobacco consumption in school and in general life of the citizen.
