Technological Innovations Through Digital Service Design in Hospital Districts

The aim of the study is to describe and increase understanding about digital service design in creating technological innovations in Finnish hospital districts. The data was collected via an open questionnaire during March-August 2019 and analyzed using a combined thematic and narrative analysis. Three distinct themes arose from the research narratives: cooperation, development, and cost. First, the importance of cooperation in the early stages of the service design process, when new technological innovation ideas are developed, was emphasized. Second, the possibilities of digitalization and need for new innovations were taken into account in the development theme. Third, costs define the utilization of an innovation and guide its initial development. If savings and costs are in balance, technological innovations will move forward. Moreover, the findings show that technological innovations in hospital districts progress in a certain pattern, and the utilization of innovations come from the need and pressure to evolve. PurposeExisting innovation frameworks suggest that manufacturing firms have traditionally developed a complementary model of technological innovations comprising process and product innovations (e.g. Oslo Manual). This article presents digital service innovation as a novel form of technological innovation that is capable of enhancing the performance of firms in certain manufacturing industries.Design/methodology/approachDrawing on technological innovation and digital servitization fields of research, this study argues that digital service innovation, in manufacturing contexts, complements traditional sources of technological innovation, so increasing the profit margins of firms. This effect is significant in industries characterized by business-to-business contexts, high presence of link channels and long product life spans (e.g. manufacturing and computer-based industries). Predictions are tested on a unique sample of 423 Spanish manufacturing firms using parametric (t-test) and nonparametric (fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis, fsQCA) approaches.FindingsThe results of this analysis show that a necessary condition so that manufacturing firms can increase profits is the deployment of simultaneous process and product innovations. It also reveals that optimal configuration requires that digital service innovation be undertaken, particularly in machinery and computer-based manufacturing industries. Hence, all three sources of technological innovation are brought together in order to reach the highest levels of company performance. The evidence suggests that technological innovation and digital servitization are closely interrelated in highly innovative manufacturing contexts.Originality/valueThis study's originality and value reside in the fact that it reveals the existence of firms incorporating digital service innovation – a new, technological innovation dimension that challenges existing innovation frameworks – to complement traditional technological innovation sources, namely process and product innovation. Moreover, the study conceptualizes and empirically tests the value-adding role of digital services in firms' technological innovation portfolio.

This study aims at finding out if households or organizations are faster in their acceptance of a technological innovation. The object of this study is digital terrestrial television (DTT), specifically the implementation of DTT in Denmark. The theoretical framework is diffusion of innovation theory. Three surveys were carried out for both households and organizations. Based on the surveys, the rate of adoption for households and for organizations could be established. It is clear that organizations accept new technology faster than households during the entire adoption process. An explanation may be that it is the employees in the organization who are the most open to technology innovations who set the agenda for the acceptance process. Danish culture can have had an influence on the findings. If that is the case the findings may be generalizable only to cultures that are similar to Danish culture.

Multiple models exist for understanding and predicting the adoption of technological innovations including SAMR, TPACK, and ADDIE. The authors have found these models are generally static, thus discounting the inherently iterative nature of adopting technological innovations. To address this gap, the authors have proposed a new model called Fusion+SNA which combines the dynamic nature of activity theory and diffusion of innovation research with an in-depth understanding of social networks. The authors employ the Fusion+SNA model in a case study that reported on a real attempt at an adoption of technological innovation in a K-12 context with a cohort of fifth-grade students and their teachers.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui adanya pengaruh inovasi crowfunding terhadap keputusan berdonasi pada platform crowdfunding Kitabisa.com. Penelitian menggunakan teori difusi inovasi serta konsep-konsep mengenai crowdfunding, masalah sosial, dan donasi. Penelitian menggunakan paradigma positivis dan pendekatan kuantitatif, dengan melakukan survey kepada donatur Kitabisa.com. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah purposive sampling, dengan parameter proporsi P yaitu 96 orang yang pernah melakukan donasi di Kitabisa.com melalui kuesioner yang dibagikan secara online (googleform). Data yang didapat dianalisis menggunakan regresi linear untuk melihat seberapa besar pengaruh antar variabel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh inovasi crowdfunding terhadap keputusan berdonasi sebesar 18,2%. Inovasi teknologi membuat kemudahan dalam melakukan donasi, namun kampanye pesan juga perlu mendapatkan perhatian khusus untuk membangun kepercayaan sehingga membuat masyarakat melakukan kegiatan donasi.   Kata kunci: Crowdfunding, Donasi, Difusi Inovasi, Kitabisa   Abstract  The objective of this research is to know the influence of crowdfunding innovation on the decision to donate to crowdfunding platforms Kitabisa.com. These are logical frameworks in this research, such as diffusion of innovation theory, crowdfunding, social problems, and donations. This research used the paradigm of positivism and quantitative approach by conducting an online survey from the donor Kitabisa.com.  The sample was selected using purposive sampling with parameter P proportions of 96 people who had made a donation at Kitabisa.com. The data were analysed using linear regression to see the influence between variables. The result of the research showed there was an impact of crowdfunding innovation on the decision to donate is 18.2%. Technological innovation makes it easy to make donations, but more attention has to be given to message campaign which is also essential to build trust so people can make donations.   Keywords: Crowdfunding, Donation, Diffusion innovation, Kitabisa

Macro-level trends and patterns are commonly used in business, science, finance, and engineering to provide insights and estimates to assist decision-makers. In this research effort, macro-level trends and patterns were explored on the diffusion rates of technological innovations, a component of a sorely under-studied question in technology assessment: When should a technological innovation be abandoned? A quantitative exploratory data analysis (EDA)-based approach was employed to examine diffusion market data of 42 U.S. consumer technological innovations from the early 1900s to the 2010s to extract general macro-level knowledge on technological innovation diffusion rates. A goal of this effort is to grow diffusion rate knowledge to enable the development of general macro-based forecasting tools. Such tools would aid decision-makers in making informed and proactive decisions on when to abandon a technological innovation. This research offers several significant contributions to the macro-level understanding of the boundaries and likelihood of achieving a range of technological innovation diffusion rates. These contributions include the determination that the frequency of diffusion rates are positively skewed when ordered from slowest to fastest, and the identification and ranking of probability density functions that best represent the rates of technological innovation diffusion.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been successfully applied in several areas due to their significant antimicrobial activity against several microorganisms. In dentistry, AgNP can be applied in disinfection, prophylaxis, and prevention of infections in the oral cavity. In this work, the use of silver nanoparticles in dentistry and associated technological innovations was analyzed. The scientific literature was searched using PubMed and Scopus databases with descriptors related to the use of silver nanoparticles in dentistry, resulting in 90 open-access articles. The search for patents was restricted to the A61K code (International Patent Classification), using the same descriptors, resulting in 206 patents. The results found were ordered by dental specialties and demonstrated the incorporation of AgNPs in different areas of dentistry. In this context, the search for patents reaffirmed the growth of this technology and the dominance of the USA pharmaceutical industry over AgNPs product development. It could be concluded that nanotechnology is a promising area in dentistry with several applications.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the adoption and implementation of computer-assisted therapy (CAT) using Breaking Free Online (BFO) in a social care and health charity working with people affected by drugs and alcohol dependence, Crime Reduction Initiatives (CRI). Design/methodology/approach – Semi-structured interviews were conducted with service managers, practitioners, peer mentors and service users. Data were thematically analysed and themes conceptualised using Roger's Diffusion of Innovation Theory (Rogers, 1995, 2002, 2004). Findings – A number of perceived barriers to adoption of BFO throughout CRI were identified within the social system, including a lack of IT resources and skills. However, there were numerous perceived benefits of adoption of BFO throughout CRI, including broadening access to effective interventions to support recovery from substance dependence, and promoting digital inclusion. Along with the solutions that were found to the identified barriers to implementation, intentions around longer-term continuation of adoption of the programme were reported, with this process being supported through changes to both the social system and the individuals within it. Research limitations/implications – The introduction of innovations such as BFO within large organisations like CRI can be perceived as being disruptive, even when individuals within the organisation recognise its benefits. For successful adoption and implementation of such innovations, changes in the social system are required, at organisational and individual levels. Practical implications – The learning points from this study may be relevant to the substance misuse sector, and more widely to criminal justice, health and social care organisations. Originality/value – This study is the first of its kind to use a qualitative approach to examine processes of implementation of CAT for substance misuse within a large treatment and recovery organisation.

The article presents the results of a study of the use of technological innovations in hotel enterprises in conditions of increased competition and an unfavorable period for the hotel business. The largest and most popular world hotel chains are analyzed. The innovations introduced at hotel enterprises are studied. It has been found that all the innovations that have been introduced in recent years are related to Internet technologies. The definition of innovation by the Law of Ukraine on Innovation was provided. The directions of basic innovative activity in the tourist and hotel business were listed. The most popular innovative technologies that have started to be used by hotel enterprises in the conditions of the coronavirus pandemic are singled out and analyzed. Among the technological innovations were studied: chatbots, mobile applications for hotel chains and small boutique hotels. The introduction of digital keys instead of the use of card keys was also investigated. The novelty of the voice assistant technology, which is planned to be used by hotel rooms, was investigated. The scientific novelty of the obtained research results is the updating and generalization of information on the use of technological innovations by foreign hotel enterprises, including world-class hotel chains. The uniqueness of the article also lies in the fact that examples of hotel enterprises that actively apply this or that technological innovation in their activities were given. Thus, this information allows you to see which hotel companies are the most innovative and, consequently, competitive in the hotel market. Further research may be aimed at determining the readiness of the domestic hotel market to introduce the latest technologies, such as chatbots, digital keys, mobile applications for small and chain hotels and voice assistants in rooms. It is necessary to study especially expediently expediency of introduction of service of the voice assistant in domestic hotels, in particular in business hotels of big cities. No less carefully you need to explore the feasibility of creating your own mobile applications for small hotels.

The implementation of One Village One Product (OVOP) program in Indonesia refersto the economic development of one village with one main product from the villagers’ creativity. Naga traditional village is one of traditional villages producing handicraft from natural resources. The use of ICT for promoting and marketing faces obstacles related to ICT adoption and digital readiness of the villagers. Case study method was deployed through in-depth interviews to five key informants. Based on the diffusion of innovation theory, the result shows the ICT adoption is in early majority level and their digital readiness is in the unprepared group
