Operational Excellence (OE) is achieved when high performance teams are seeking for continuous improvement in well-designed processes, using appropriate tools and technologies. Excellence is underpinned by a philosophy in which problem-solving, team-working and effective leadership combine to focus upon customer needs, and all employees are empowered to act to maintain optimal flows of value. OE is clearly a desirable quality of organizations seeking both effectiveness and efficiency in their production of goods and services for customers. OE is underpinned by concepts such as team-working, effective leadership and change management, and depends upon effective flows of value. Systems Thinking (ST) is consequently at the heart of genuine excellence. This paper was conceived in the context of a Community of Practice of business improvement professionals, who took Operational Excellence as their agenda for inquiry during sessions in 2015. Reflection upon practice discussed at these meetings, together with the literature of change management and continuous improvement, have led to development of a systemic ‘landscape' model for pursuit of Operational Excellence. The elements of this model are set out, showing how they can contribute to OE.

The focal organization for this article is the leading engineering service company in Thailand hereinafter called ‘Thai CLV’. The company is well known for the good quality of its maintenance projects for oil tanks with a long period of service for the customers. Due to the rapidly changing engineering and technological landscape and the robust competition of the external environment and competitors, the management of the company believes that the utilization of team structure could deliver a flexible working environment and better outcomes for the project. Therefore, its field operations have utilized a team structure for its tank maintenance process. The focus of this article is Thai CLV’s effort to further organize itself around high-performance teams by exploring the opportunities of external functions towards a high-performing entrepreneurial team.

Team sports performance analysis usually uses samples of high performance teams and athletes. Those studies, although useful to trainers and players, are hardly applicable on different contexts. The goal of this study was to analyze the effects of the situational variables on the final score and competition in youth soccer. To achieve this, all games from a Spanish regional youth soccer league (n=132) were analyzed. Linear regressions were used to check the influence of situational variables (score difference; final league standings; match location; scoring first; cards; substitutions; quality of opponent and field surface) on the outcome of the game, final team standings and game location. Results show the importance that the match location, scoring first, rival team quality, substitutions and cards have on the match’s outcome, meanwhile the linear regression highlights the effect of scoring first, rival team quality, and substitutions on the final team standings.Resumen. El análisis del rendimiento deportivo en deportes de equipo usa habitualmente muestras equipos y deportistas de alto rendimiento deportivo. Estos estudios, aunque de una gran utilidad para entrenadores y jugadores, son difícilmente aplicables a otros contextos. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar los efectos de las variables situacionales en el resultado final del partido y la competición en fútbol juvenil. Para ello, se analizaron todos los partidos de una liga de categoría juvenil regional española (n= 132). Se utilizó la regresión lineal para comprobar la influencia de las variables situacionales (diferencia de goles en el partido; clasificación final del equipo; localización del partido; marcar primero; amonestaciones; sustituciones; la calidad del oponente y la superficie de juego) en el resultado, la clasificación final y la localización del partido. Los resultados ponen de manifiesto la importancia que en el resultado final del partido tiene la localización del partido, anotar primero, la calidad del oponente, las sustituciones y las amonestaciones, mientras que, en la clasificación final, la regresión lineal destaca el efecto de anotar el primer gol, la calidad de la oposición y las sustituciones.

Researchers have concluded that teams are capable of outstanding performances and are the primary unit of performance for organizations. However High Performance Teams (HPTs) are a rarity. The paper discusses and analyzes the literature reviews on Definitions, Trust & Confidence, Conflict and Selection Processes linked to HPTs. It is imperative to note that HPTs are needed and are necessary in any healthcare setting as it improves the quality of services. Para ser competitivos en el mundo actual se debe brindar bienes y servicios de calidad, por lo tanto los esfuerzos de las empresas deben enfocarse al cliente, a partir del conocimiento de sus necesidades, brindarles soluciones con valor agregado y un nivel de excelencia que los satisfaga, y de esta manera garantizar su lealtad. El Hospital Andino Alternativo de Chimborazo, Ecuador, institución de reciente creación en el área de la salud, realiza procedimientos para la mejora continua en la entrega de su servicio, pero no conoce con certeza cuál es la opinión de sus clientes acerca de la calidad del servicio recibido. Por ello se realizó una investigación que analizó las percepciones de los clientes, utilizando el Modelo SERVPERF, este debe su nombre a la exclusiva atención que presta a la valoración del desempeño para la medida de la calidad del servicio, si bien se compone de los mismos ítems y dimensiones que el SERVQUAL, la única diferencia es que elimina la parte que hace referencia a las expectativas de los clientes. Analizadas las dimensiones seguridad, empatía, tangibilidad, confiabilidad y capacidad de respuesta, la de mejor comportamiento es la de seguridad, seguida muy de cerca por confiabilidad. AbstractTo be competitive in the present world, it should be offered goods and services of quality, therefore the efforts of enterprises should be focused on the customer, by knowing their needs, providing value-added solutions and a level of excellence that satisfies them, and thus ensure their loyalty. Alternative Andino Hospital of Chimborazo, Ecuador, which is a new institution in the area of health, performs procedures for continuous improvement when providing their service, but it does not know for sure what the opinions of its customers about the quality of the received service are. That is why, a research that analyzes the perceptions of customers, using the SERVPERF model was made, this model owes its name to the exclusive attention paid to performance assessment to measure the quality of service, although it consists of the same items and dimensions as SERVQUAL, the only difference is that it eliminates the part that refers to expectations of customers. Once analyzed the items of security, empathy, tangibility, reliability and responsiveness; the best one is safety, followed closely by reliability.

Purpose Indian higher education (HE) is arguably “in the doldrums.” Conformity to minimum standards and requirements combined with ever-eroding quality is the serious threats. Many researchers have suggested adopting a functional approach in universities and developing greater autonomy and accountability to improve the situation. The purpose of this paper is to deliberate on the introduction of an integrated way of making teachers more involved in their profession with the intention of enhancing the quality of education and research. Design/methodology/approach The paper’s argument conceptualizes the possibilities of the Indian HE system benchmarking the concept of high-performance teams (HTPs) as practiced in the industry. Findings Taking the support from the extant literature, it is proposed that working in HTPs have the potential to elevate the involvement level of the faculty. Furthermore, it is suggested that through the implementation of HTPs in educational settings, teachers would also be able to develop their competencies in relation to research activities. Originality/value The model presented in the study has the potential to be empirically tested for its validity and reliability, which opens vistas for future research.

Providing a specific level of healthcare quality is an important and a complex issue, determined by the extent of influence of number of interrelated and predetermined factors that act at different stages throughout the continuum of healthcare activities. A final healthcare product is a complex conglomerate of goods and services being heterogeneous with a time-varying result and a pronounced individuality. Thus, healthcare managers are required to put its supporting and continuous upgrading at the core of their efforts, which in turn will result in cost reduction, good collaboration between individual professionals, improved financial performance and, ultimately, patients will be optimally serviced and their needs and expectations will be satisfied.Indicators to measure quality of medical services give an idea of their characteristics, conditions and requirements for implementation. In this respect, quality assurance in clinical laboratories is an important process involving a complex system of planned actions at all stages of laboratory analysis in order to achieve the most accurate results with the aim of achieving the most accurate result, of monitoring the effect of the treatment and prognosis of the disease in question. The high quality of laboratory medical services helps modern clinicians in their practical activities and is a guarantor of achieving an adequate healthcare outcome. The ‘Quality in Laboratory Medicine’ concept evolves over time, focusing not only on analytical accuracy but also on a broader and more comprehensive basis that takes into account all the steps of clinical and laboratory analysis, providing valuable information in the process of making clinical decisions that are subordinated entirely to the cares of the patient.All healthcare professionals under the administrative authority of the medical institution, that should guarantee the necessary resources for this process, should participate in providing and improving the quality of services. It is necessary to cover the entire organizational structure, by paying attention to the optimization of the relations between staff and patients. Healthcare managers should provide permanent monitoring and a process evaluation system at each stage, allowing options for choosing alternatives for a solution and precise selectivity, aimed at improving the quality of healthcare, in particular, clinical and laboratory activities and services.

The extracted seeds of African breadfruit are identified to be extremely healthy whenever it is correctly processed. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of processing methods on the nutritional quality of African breadfruit seed. A qualitative phytochemical analysis including: Alkaloid, Flavonoid, Saponin, Tannin, Anthraquinone, Terpenoids, Steroid, and Cardiac Glycosides for the different fraction of African breadfruit seed was performed using a standard method. The result revealed the presence and greater amount of phytochemical for the raw fraction; seven in eight, six in eight for steamed fraction, and four in eight for boiled and roasted respectively. Anti-nutrient, Proximate, and Mineral Content were also conducted using standard methods. The amino acid composition was determined using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The results of the present study revealed that anti-nutrients including Phytate, Tannins, and Oxalate were significantly p<0.05 reduced in the boiled fraction 5.47±0.15, 3.42±0.02 and 6.89±0.05, and highest in the raw fraction 7.77±0.01, 5.09±0.03 and 9.34±0.14. The proximate composition including; percentage crude fat, Ash, Carbohydrate, Fatty acid, and Energy value were significantly lower p<0.05 in the boiled fraction relative to the other fractions. Mineral contents; calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and phosphorus were also significantly p<0.05 elevated in the boiled fraction relative to the raw, steamed, and roasted fraction. The amino acid composition was highest in the roasted and boiled fraction 57.350 and 56.978, and lowest in the steamed and raw fraction 35.754 and 28.748 respectively. Therefore, boiling (cooking) is encouraged for the preparation of African breadfruit seed.

Managing a tourism supply chain is predominantly focused on managing a tourism-specific product that can be perceived as all kinds of goods and services utilized by tourists during their trips. The predominant goal of this article is to empirically identify the level of engagement of entities operating in the tourism-oriented branch of industry concerning the satisfaction of end-customers with the offered tourism-related services and products. Within the scope of this study, the statistical relevance of elements of active cooperation within a tourism-specific supply chain was analyzed. Empirical examinations covered the assessment of the cooperation within the framework of the tourism-oriented supply chain and its impact on consumer satisfaction. A research questionnaire was utilized to meet examination-specific goals. Theoretical considerations and the analysis of branches of industry in relation to the available statistical data showed that tourist-oriented supply chain covers various entities, the engagement of which may have a factual impact on the efficiency of managing the entire chain, as well as on the overall client satisfaction, improving tourism sustainability. The obtained results clearly showed that the examined entities considered the analyzed cooperation aspects to be very important with regard to the supply chain management. Said aspects included the total length of cooperation within the framework of a particular supply chain, which, according to the examined entities, directly translated into the quality of cooperation—to either significant or very significant extent, as well as making it much easier to solve certain problems that were strictly connected with the provision of tourism-oriented services. Yet another aspect of cooperation that was touched upon was the transfer of the so-called know-how between the entities engaged in a given supply chain. As proven by the examination, 70% of the surveyed entities claimed that it was of significant or very significant importance. The last analyzed aspect of cooperation were relations between the supply chain-specific partners and their impact on the satisfaction of end customers. According to over half of the sample (61.54%), decent relations between supply chain participants affected the satisfaction of end customers to a notable extent.

Abstract Background Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a group of communicable diseases which are prevalent in the tropics affecting more than one billion people. Treatment and prevention of these infections is very costly to developing economies. Helminthiases are classified among NTDs. The communities afflicted are poor and have limited access to essential resources for their livelihood. Poor-quality drugs for NTDs may lead to death or prolonged treatment without achieving the desired results. The limited resources used in purchasing poor-quality drugs will therefore be wasted instead of being put to good use. Most of the methods available for the analysis of benzimidazole anthelminthics utilize high-performance liquid chromatography. They are therefore time consuming, require sophisticated and expensive equipment, utilize rare and expensive reagents and solvents, and call for skilled personnel. A simple, rapid, and inexpensive ultraviolet spectrophotometric method of analysis would therefore come in handy especially in the analysis of many samples as occurs during post-authorization market surveillance for quality. Results The suitable solvent for the spectroscopic analysis was established as 0.1 M methanolic HCl. The wavelength of analysis was set at 294 nm. Upon validation, the method was found to have good linearity. The range over which linearity was established was way beyond the 80 to 120% of the working concentration specified by the ICH. The method exhibited good precision. Out of 32 commercial samples analyzed, five (15.6%) did not comply with compendial specifications. Intra-brand batch variation was also observed. Out of three batches of product A002T analyzed, one did not comply with compendial specifications. Conclusion A major limitation in the analysis of benzimidazole anthelminthics is the lack of reliable, simple, rapid, and low-cost methods of analysis with high throughput. The developed method serves to fill this gap. It can be used in the analysis of raw materials and finished products. It can also be used in the establishment of the quality of products prior to registration. The method will prove very useful in post-market surveillance of quality of benzimidazole anthelminthics.

In this article, we first investigate the quality of aerial air pollution measurements and characterize the main error sources of drone-mounted gas sensors. To that end, we build ASTRO+, an aerial-ground pollution monitoring platform, and use it to collect a comprehensive dataset of both aerial and reference air pollution measurements. We show that the dynamic airflow caused by drones affects temperature and humidity levels of the ambient air, which then affect the measurement quality of gas sensors. Then, in the second part of this article, we leverage the effects of weather conditions on pollution measurements’ quality in order to design an unmanned aerial vehicle mission planning algorithm that adapts the trajectory of the drones while taking into account the quality of aerial measurements. We evaluate our mission planning approach based on a Volatile Organic Compound pollution dataset and show a high-performance improvement that is maintained even when pollution dynamics are high.
