Expanding TAM and IDT to Understand the Adoption of E-Marketing by Small Business Enterprises

This paper aims to explore, analyze and develop a clear understanding of the different factors affecting the adoption of e-marketing by trading industrial UK small business enterprises which will build on the current body of knowledge in the field of e-marketing. This paper systematically reviews and categorises the literature related to e-marketing adoption, the use of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Innovation Diffusion Theory (IDT) to understand the adoption of e-marketing by small business enterprises. Based on this review and depending on the Hanson (2001) Internet marketing framework, a three stage methodology was implemented to determine, analyze and review the different factors affecting the adoption of e-marketing from a small businesses perspective by using focus groups and survey research strategies as well as Structure Equation Modelling to analyse the data collected.

RFID ticketing systems constitute a particular type of pervasive information systems providing spectators of sports events with a transparent mechanism to validate and renew tickets. This study seeks to investigate the factors that influence user acceptance of RFID ticketing systems. The theoretical background of the study was drawn from the technology acceptance model (TAM) and the innovation diffusion theory (IDT), and enhanced with factors related to privacy and switching cost features. The research model was tested with data gathered through a lab experiment (N=71). The participants perceived the system as useful and easy to use, and expressed the willingness to adopt it should it become commercially available. Moreover, the results of ANOVA tests suggest that the age and education of users influence their perception towards the usefulness of the system and its subsequent use.

Fashionable clothes resource suppliers are directly linked with resource consumers through the Internet, thus replacing the traditional model. With fashionable clothes as the products for renting, this study helps relevant enterprises understand the factors influencing consumers’ adoption of renting and their attitude and behavioral intention towards clothes renting. Taking the theory of planned behavior as the theoretical foundation, this study thus adopts the technology acceptance model (TAM), the innovation diffusion theory (IDT), the structural equation model (SEM), and the collected information to develop a research methodology that is both theoretical and practical. According to the research results, compatibility matters the most in driving consumers to have a positive assessment and perception of online clothes renting in terms of behavior and attitude. Additionally, personal innovativeness has significant effects and can help relevant enterprises find their target markets. In terms of subjective norm, interpersonal relationship also has a significant influence, showing that consumers today pay much more attention to friends’ information sources. The self-efficacy of the perceived behavioral control also has a noticeable impact. Therefore, relevant enterprises need to consider the operability of online clothes renting to prevent consumers from feeling frustrated in their ability to use it, thus reducing their use intention.

How and why individuals adopt innovations has motivated a great deal of research. This article examines individuals’ computing adoption processes through the lenses of three adoption theories: Rogers’s innovation diffusion theory, the Concerns-Based Adoption Model, the Technology Acceptance Model, and the United Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology. Incorporating all three models, this article suggests technology adoption is a complex, inherently social, developmental process; individuals construct unique yet malleable perceptions of technology that influence their adoption decisions. Thus, successfully facilitating technology adoption must address cognitive, emotional, and contextual concerns. This article also focuses specific attention on adoption theory outside of a formal organization and the implications of adoption theory on informal environments.

Technological developments have a major impact on user behavior. The rapidly evolving communication system and technology have provided numerous choices for people. The ever-shifting changes in the generation of communication networks have posed challenges for mobile network service providers to attract and retain customers. This study aims to prioritize the determinants of the adoption of mobile network service providers using the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT-2). In this study, data were collected from 660 mobile phone users in Haryana, India. A fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (F-AHP) was applied to arrange the priority or rank the factors based on the significance of the factors in explaining the adoption of mobile network service providers. Results of the study reveal that efforts expectancy is the highest-ranked and prioritized factor for the adoption of mobile network service providers followed by performance expectancy and facilitating conditions. However, social influence emerged as the least important factor. The present study provides theoretical implications for future researchers by synthesizing and prioritizing the important factors affecting technology acceptance. The practical implications offer a clearer insight to marketers for developing focused pragmatic strategies to retain customer loyalty. The study has considered only UTAUT-2 model constructs and used the F-AHP technique. Other factors may be considered in future studies. Other priority analysis techniques can also be used such as ISM and MICMAC analysis for further study. The research has been conducted in Haryana, India, and therefore, it needs to be tested in other areas/countries for generalizability. JEL Classification: O1, O2, O4

Abstract: A Behavioral Study on Middle-Class Consumers in Adopting M-Commerce in East Java. The objective of this study is to examine factors that influence the behavioral intention of consumers in using and adopting m-commerce. This study combines Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), and Innovation Diffusion Theory (IDT). The data of this study were collected through a survey and samples were selected by using convenience sampling technique with SEM-PLS requirement as many as ten times the number of paths. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS). The results of this study show that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, social influence, and personal innovativeness affecs behavioral intention. Furthermore, behavioral intention affects actual user, i.e. consumers, to use and adopt m-commerce information technology. This study implies that vendors of m-commerce information technology and management should pay more attention to and reconsider perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, social influence, personal innovativeness, behavioral intention, and consumers as actual users, when they make decision regarding adoption and appliance of m-commerce.Keywords: m-commerce information technology adoption, consumer behavior, Technology Acceptance Model, Theory of Planned Behavior, Innovation Diffusion TheoryAbstrak: Studi Keperilakuan Konsumen Kelas Menengah dalam Pengadopsian M-Commerce di Jawa Timur. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menguji faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi minat perilaku konsumen dalam menggunakan maupun mengadopsi m-commerce. Studi ini menggunakan metode survey, sampel dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik convenience sampling, dan teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah SEM-PLS. Studi ini menemukan bahwa konstruk persepsi kegunaan, persepsi kemudahan penggunaan, pengaruh sosial dan keinovatifan pribadi berpengaruh terhadap minat perilaku. Selanjutnya, studi ini juga menemukan bahwa minat perilaku berpengaruh terhadap pengguna yang sesungguhnya, yaitu konsumen, terkait dengan penggunaan maupun adopsi m-commerce. This study develops a model to assess the consumer acceptance of Camera Mobile Phone (CMP) technology for social interaction. While there has been considerable research on technology adoption in the workplace, far fewer studies have been done to understand the motives of technology acceptance for social use. To fill in this gap, the authors develop a model that is based on the theory of the technology acceptance model, the theory of reasoned action, the attachment motivation theory, innovation diffusion theory, and the theory of flow. The first research methods used was a qualitative field study that identified the variables that most drive CMP acceptance and build the research model using a sample of 83 consumers. The second method was a quantitative field study, which collected from a sample of 240 consumers in Kuwait in order to test the model. Results reveal the “social use” and “use before shopping” uses, explaining 32.3% and 30% of the variance, respectively. Most importantly, the study reveals that personal innovativeness, attachment motivation, and social norms have an important effect on CMP acceptance.

FinTech, a compound term for financial technology, signifies the usage of technology to provide financial assistance. Ever since its evolution FinTech has been growing tremendously, despite its positive and negative aspects. In the literature review, there are many factors affecting the adoption of FinTech. It was found that the ease of use of technology (Technology Acceptance Theory), investment decisions in crowdfunding (Decision Theory), and the risks involved in the adoption of FinTech (Prospect Theory) are the main factors that might affect the adoption of FinTech. However, there is a paucity of studies linking all these factors in the adoption of FinTech using these theories. This research project investigates the influence of these factors in the adoption of FinTech. In order to analyze these factors, a questionnaire was used. As a result, it was found that there is a positive relationship between the ease of use and FinTech's adoption; between FinTech's adoption and investment decisions in crowdfunding and between the level of risks when adapting to FinTech.
