The aim of the presented work is compare a two different way of prescribing muscles and chewing force boundary condition. First variant of boundary condition consider muscle forces and their direction taken from literatures. Second variant of boundary condition consider muscles modeled as finite elements connecting lower jaw and skull together. At second variant a muscles material characteristic of Young ́s modulus was changed in range from 1e4 MPa to 2,1e5 MPa. Models of living tissues were created on base of CT images and modeled in 3D CAD software SolidWorks. Calculations were computed in the finite element software ANSYS. Material models were considered as homogenous, isotropic and linearly elastic for all parts. First, both variants of boundary condition were analyzed separately and after that, selected variables (as muscle forces and muscle direction scale factors) from both variant were compared together.

Automotive rubber products are subjected to large deformations during working conditions, they often contact with other parts and they show highly nonlinear material behavior. Using finite element software for complex analysis of rubber parts can be a good way, although it has to contain special modules. Different types of rubber materials require the curve fitting possibility and the wide range choice of the material models. It is also important to be able to describe the viscoelastic property and the hysteresis. The remeshing possibility can be a useful tool for large deformation and the working circumstances require the contact and self contact ability as well. This article compares some types of the finite element software available on the market based on the above mentioned features.

The manufacturing process of bone scaffold structures has an important influence on the final mechanical strength of the structure. When the structures are not produced properly, i.e. have imperfections such as missing parts or slightly displaced joints, they lose some of their mechanical properties. The aim of this study was to see how different types of damage affect the structures and also if their effects are equal when the structure is subjected to different load conditions. The change of the mechanical behavior was determined using the commercial finite element software MSC Marc Mentat. In turn, the damage was introduced by manipulating the structure’s files (ASCII data files) using the programming language Fortran. Apart from the numerical simulations, experimental testing was also performed to verify the numerical results. In the frame of this study, useful information for further research is provided.

To analyze the mechanical properties of steel tube filled with steel-reinforced concrete(STSRC), the mechanical models and some related problems of STSRC under different loading ways are proposed for the analysis on the base of finite element software: the concrete plastic damage constitutive model, the contact between steel and the treatment of boundary condition, etc. There are three types of specimen for analysis: short column, long column and pure bending beam. The results indicate that the mechanical models and the relevant technical analysis of STSRC are reasonable, and are beneficial to convergence. The discussed methods can provide a reference for the scholars to study on other composite steel-concrete structures.

A piezoelectric composite vibrator with a bilaminated structure is designed and fabricated, in this work by applying bending vibration to increase vibration displacement and reduce resonance frequency. The finite element software ANSYS (ANSYS, Inc. USA) is used to simulate the 2-2 and 1-3 piezoelectric composite bilaminated vibrators under free boundary condition and optimize their design. Simulation results show that the vibration displacement of the 2-2 vibrator is higher than that of the 1-3 vibrator, and the resonance frequency of the former is lower than the latter. Five pieces each of the 2-2 and piezoelectric ceramic vibrators are prepared. In addition, simulation and experimental results indicate that the vibration displacement of the 2-2 vibrator increases by 2.3 times, whereas its resonance frequency decreases by nearly 100 Hz, in comparison with those of the piezoelectric ceramic bilaminated vibrator.

Friendship Avenue bridge was a concrete-filled steel tube arch bridge (CFSTAB). As a new type of bridge, CFSTAB was widely constructed and rapid developed in China. Because of its merits, CFSTAB was constructed much more in China. With the span increasing rapidly, and the bridge gradually becoming thin, the long span CFSTAB should be paid more attention for its performance of aseismic, wind resistance and vehicle-bridge vibration. This article described the basic method of dynamic analysis for CFSTAB. And the Friendship Avenue CFSTAB was taken as an example, such as the choice of element types, conducted boundary condition and applying load were described in process of modeling FEM for it, and of which the dynamic characteristics was analyzed by finite element software ANSYS.

The finite element model of a symmetric tapered attachment lug is built by using the finite element software ANSYS, a cosine pin-bearing pressure distribution is applied on the surface of the pin-hole as a boundary condition. The stress intensity factor (SIF) expression for a single through-the-thickness crack in a symmetric attachment lug subjected to an oblique pin-load less than 45 degrees is determined by studying on the effect of the dimensionless crack length (a/R1),the ratio of outer radius to inside radius (R2/R1), the inside radius (R1), the tapered angle (β) of lug and the load degree (α) on SIF value. The paper can be helpful in assessing and designing damage tolerant attachment lugs.

From the perspective of damage mechanics, the damage parameters were introduced as the characterizing quantity of the decrease in the mechanical properties of powder superalloy material FGH96 under fatigue loading. By deriving a damage evolution equation, a fatigue life prediction model of powder superalloy containing inclusions was constructed based on damage mechanics. The specimens containing elliptical subsurface inclusions and semielliptical surface inclusions were considered. The CONTA172 and TARGE169 elements of finite element software (ANSYS) were used to simulate the interfacial debonding between the inclusions and matrix, and the interface crack initiation life was calculated. Through finite element modeling, the stress field evolution during the interface debonding was traced by simulation. Finally, the effect of the position and shape size of inclusions on interface debonding was explored.

The paper deals with methods of equivalence of boundary conditions in finite element models that are based on finite element model updating technique. The proposed methods are based on the determination of the stiffness parameters in the section plate or region, where the boundary condition or the removed part of the model is replaced by the bushing connector. Two methods for determining its elastic properties are described. In the first case, the stiffness coefficients are determined by a series of static finite element analyses that are used to obtain the response of the removed part to the six basic types of loads. The second method is a combination of experimental and numerical approaches. The natural frequencies obtained by the measurement are used in finite element (FE) optimization, in which the response of the model is tuned by changing the stiffness coefficients of the bushing. Both methods provide a good estimate of the stiffness at the region where the model is replaced by an equivalent boundary condition. This increases the accuracy of the numerical model and also saves computational time and capacity due to element reduction.

In this study, the effect of crack on free vibration of a large deflected cantilever plate, which forms the case of a pre-stressed curved plate, is investigated. A distributed load is applied at the free edge of a thin cantilever plate. Then, the loading edge of the deflected plate is fixed to obtain a pre-stressed curved plate. The large deflection equation provides the non - linear deflection curve of the large deflected flexible plate. The thin curved plate is modeled by using the finite element method with a four-node quadrilateral element. Three different aspect ratios are used to examine the effect of crack. The effect of crack and its location on the natural frequency parameter is given in tables and graphs. Also, the natural frequency parameters of the present model are compared with the finite element software results to verify the reliability and validity of the present model. This study shows that the different mode shapes are occurred due to the change of load parameter, and these different mode shapes cause a change in the effect of crack.
