Currently, there are quite a lot of incorrect procedures and mistakes that occur in the forensic area, which lacks analytical approaches toward solving the causes of accidents using s–t diagrams (distance–time diagrams) combined with the software simulation applications. When analyzing accidents, the correct information is of key importance. The aim of this article is to define a new specific technical and analytical approach toward handling expert’s reports on traffic accidents in road transport at intersections, with respect to the traffic lights. A simulation program application is used as a progressive means of accident evaluation. This procedure must become a standard in the methods of modern traffic accident analysis. The application of this methodology with simulation tools for accident reconstruction enables one to perform a very precise analysis of traffic accidents. Mutual space and time relationships of vehicles’ movements have been evaluated here, depending upon the intersection signal plan. To demonstrate the methodology, a real case is used here, reconstructed by means of the complex analytical simulation software PC-Crash. A procedure processed by these means can be beneficial for forensic traffic accident analysis.

Road safety is the main problem in developing countries. Every year, millions of people die in road traffic accidents, resulting in huge losses of humankind and the economy. This study focuses on the road traffic accident analysis and identification of black spots on the Lahore-Islamabad Highway M-2. Official data of road traffic accidents were collected from National Highway and Highway Police (NH & MP) Pakistan. The data was digitized on MS Excel and Origin Pro. The accident Point weightage (APW) method was employed to identify the black spots and rank of the top ten black spots. The analysis shows that the trend of road traffic accidents on M-2 was characterized by a high rate of fatal accidents of 35.3%. Human errors account for 66.8% as the major contributing factors in road traffic accidents, while vehicle errors (25.6%) and environmental factors (7.6%) were secondary and tertiary contributing factors. The main causes of road traffic accidents were the dozing on the wheel (27.9%), the careless driving (24.6%), tyre burst (11.7%), and the brakes failure (7.4%). Kallar Kahar (Salt Range) was identified as a black spot (223 km, 224 km, 225 km, 229 km, and 234 km) due to vehicle brake failure. The human error was a major contributory factor in road traffic accidents, therefore public awareness campaign on road safety is inevitable and use of the dozen alarm to overcome dozing on the wheel. Doi: 10.28991/cej-2020-03091629 Full Text: PDF

Safety is the key point of railway transportation, and railway traffic accident prediction is the main content of safety management. There are complex nonlinear relationships between an accident and its relevant indexes. For this reason, triangular gray relational analysis (TGRA) is used for obtaining the indexes related to the accident and the deep auto-encoder (DAE) for finding out the complex relationships between them and then predicting the accident. In addition, a nonlinear weight changing particle swarm optimization algorithm, which has better convergence and global searching ability, is proposed to obtain better DAE structure and parameters, including the number of hidden layers, the number of neurons at each hidden layer and learning rates. The model was used to forecast railway traffic accidents at Shenyang Railway Bureau, Guangzhou Railway Corporation, and Nanchang Railway Bureau. The results of the experiments show that the proposed model achieves the best performance for predicting railway traffic accidents.

ABSTRACT The safety of highways with a high ratio of bridges and tunnels is related to multiple factors, for example, the skid resistance of the pavement surface. In this study, the distribution of accidents under different conditions was calculated to investigate the relationship between the road skid resistance and the incidence of traffic accidents based on the traffic accident data of the Yuxiang highway. Statistical results show that weather conditions and road alignment may affect traffic accidents. The correlation analysis method was used to study the relationship between three factors and traffic accidents. The results show that road alignment, weather conditions and road skid resistance are related to the incidence of traffic accidents. The traffic accident prediction models were established based on back propagation neural network to verify the correlation analysis results. It is confirmed that road alignment, weather conditions and road skid resistance are the factors that affect traffic accidents.

Introduction: Traffic accidents are an undesirable burden on society. Every year around one million deaths and more than ten million injuries are reported due to traffic accidents. Hence, traffic accidents prevention measures must be taken to overcome the accident rate. Different countries have different geographical and environmental conditions and hence the accident factors diverge in each country. Traffic accident data analysis is very useful in revealing the factors that affect the accidents in different countries. This article was written in the year 2016 in the Institute of Technology & Science, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad, up, India. Methology: We propose a framework to utilize association rule mining (arm) for the severity classification of traffic accidents data obtained from police records in Mujjafarnagar district, Uttarpradesh, India. Results: The results certainly reveal some hidden factors which can be applied to understand the factors behind road accidentality in this region. Conclusions: The framework enables us to find three clusters from the data set. Each cluster represents a type of accident severity, i.e. fatal, major injury and minor/no injury. The association rules exposed different factors that are associated with road accidents in each category. The information extracted provides important information which can be employed to adapt preventive measures to overcome the accident severity in Muzzafarnagar district.

Abstract. Based on the monthly datasets, including the number of traffic accidents, casualties and meteorological data, the relationship between the traffic accidents and meteorological conditions is studied. The results are as follows: (1) There are two peaks of the number of traffic accidents, which are the saddle-shaped peak from Apr to Jun and the second peak in Oct respectively. The number of traffic accidents in February is the least. The temporal distribution of the casualty is different from that of traffic accident. Most casualties happened in Jul. and the second in Apr. and Oct. The susceptibility of traffic accident and casualty in Hebei, Beijing and Tianjin decreased successionally from high to low. (2) A new result is obtained: in comparison with the number of traffic accidents, the correlation between meteorological condition and casualty is higher. The main reason is that the adverse weather conditions always cause drivers fail to control the vehicle or to make right decision. Therefore, the accident causing casualty should be focused on while the monthly weather-related accident is discussed. (3) The correlation coefficient between the number of casualty and precipitation or relative humidity is significantly positive. Otherwise, the correlation coefficient between the number of casualty and visibility or pressure is significantly negative.
