Synthesis of New Benzoxazine from Cardanol-Furfural Resin and the Properties of the Corresponding Polymer

A novel benzoxazine-based phenolic resin containing furan groups and long alkyl side-chain (CFB) was synthesized using cardanol-furfural resin as phenolic raw materials. The new benzoxazine-based cardanol-furfural resin derived from renewable resources was characterized by FTIR,1H NMR spectra and Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) etc. The thermal ring-opening reaction of the benzoxazine ring and the polymerization of the double bond were demonstrated with FTIR measurement. The thermal behavior of the cured product was also investigated with thermogravimetric analysis. The corresponding polybenzoxazine showed Tgvalue higher than that of polybenzoxazine prepared from cardanol, ammonia and formaldehyde. The char yield value at 800°C of the corresponding polybenzoxazine is 46.2% in N2atmosphere. The results showed that the polybenzoxazine cured from CFB had good heat resistance and toughness.

Highly transparent silicone resin with self-crosslinking structure was prepared using phenyltrimethoxysilane, diphenyldimethoxysilane, 1,3,5,7-cyclotetra(methyl siloxane) and bisvinyltetramethyldisiloxane as main raw materials. The structure of silicone resin was determined by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR). The light transmittance was measured by UV-Vis spectroscopy. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was used to study the thermal decomposition process. The microstructure of cured self-crosslinking silicone resin is more uniform, resulting in better light transmittance up to 100% in the range of 400nm ~ 800nm. The cured has relatively good heat resistance, the initial thermal decomposition temperature of the cured could be up to 315.8 °C. SEM observations show that the self-crosslinking silicone has a uniform, textured structure, higher transparency compared with the existing condensation silicone material, and can be used as advanced architectural translucent materials and optics packaging materials.

The silicone succinate surfactant (PMPS) was synthesized by ring-opening reaction using polyether alcohol amine modified polysilosane (PAPS) with maleic anhydride (MA) as the raw materials, and p-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA) was used as the catalyst. Sulfated castor oil and sulfated rapeseed oil were combinated with PMPS to prepare a new leather fatliqour (PMPSF) composed mainly of PMPS. The molecular structure of PMPS was characterized by FTIR spectra; the thermal properties of PMPS was characterized and analyzed by TGA. PMPSF was used in sheepskin wet blue leather and compared with oxidative sulfited vegetable oils (L-3) and RF-1 fatliquor; the waterproof and mechanical properties of the leather were measured. The results show that the thermal decomposition temperature of PMPS is 192.8°C. Fatliquor PMPSF provids a good level-dyeing property, the leather oiled by it has good flexibility and fullness, the waterproofness and mechanical properties of leather are also good. Moreover, compared with the leather fatliquored by L-3, the thickening rate of leather oiled by PMPSF reaches 13.7%.

Polyol was successfully synthesized from used palm oil (UPO) via epoxidation and ring opening reaction. The mole ratio of UPO: formic acid: hydrogen peroxide was 0.3: 8: 1.5. The reaction had been continuously stirred at 400 rpm at 65°C with varied reaction time for 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and 4.0 h. The chemical structure of modified used palm oil (MUPO) or polyol was confirmed by 1H-NMR. OH number of polyols increased with an increase reaction time. Moreover, the preliminary study for the preparation of MUPO-based polyurethane (PU) foam was performed. A new MUPO-based PU foam was successfully prepared and theirs foam behaviors were investigated.

Using sodium bisulfite and epichlorohydrin as raw materials, the ring-opening reaction is carried out under the action of acatalyst to produce sodium 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropane sulfonate, followed by dodecyl tertiary amine, isopropanol, sodium hydroxide and 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropane sulfonate sodium as raw materials, under certain conditions to synthesize dodecyl hydroxy sulfobetaine surfactant. The surface tension, interfacial tension, salt resistance and emulsification properties of the synthesized surfactants were tested and evaluated. The experimental results show that the surfactant has a low critical micelle concentration and surface tension; the interfacial tension decreases with the increase of surfactant concentration. When the concentration is greater than or equal to 0.3%, the interfacial tension reaches 10-2 level; the dodecyl hydroxy sulfobetaine surfactant solution shows good salt resistance; when the concentration of dodecyl hydroxy sulfobetaine surfactant solution is 0.5%, the water separation rate in 120 minutes is the lowest and the emulsification ability is the strongest.

In this paper, the ammonium dichromate and copper nitrate were used as raw materials to prepare the copper chromite, and nanocopper chromite as a catalyst was used to synthesize the monomer dioxanone in diethylene glycol dehydrogenation. Under the strict conditions of no water and no oxygen, the stannous octoate was selected to catalyze ring-opening polymerization of the dioxanone to prepare the polydioxanone. And dioxanone and its polymers were characterized with IR spectroscopy,1H NMR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC ) measurements.

In this paper, the ring-opening reaction of 2,5-dioctyldithieno[2,3-b:3',2'-d]thiophene with aryllithium in THF at low temperature to generate 2'-arylthio-3,3'-bithiophene-2-carbaldehydes is studied. Nine examples are explored and all the products are characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and HRMS. The relative relationship between the structures of aryl groups and the efficiency of ring-opening reactions are discussed.

The waterborne polyurethane (WPU) modified by epoxy resin was synthesized by using isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), poly propylene glycol (PPG-1000), 2,2-dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA) and epoxy resin as the main raw materials. The WPU properties were characterized by TGA, FTIR, and so on. The study shows that whennNCO/nOH=1.4, the mount of DMPA is 5.0%, the emulsifying property of WPU which is modified epoxy resin with high epoxy value is well. And when the mounts of E-20, E-44 are 2.0%, 4.0% respectively, the synthesized emulsion with small size has well stability. The modified WPU which possesses high hardness, low water absorption, good heat resistance and anticorrosion, has a well combination property.

A composite comprising cyclopentyl trisilanol silsesquioxanes (CpSSQ(OH)3) and 50% epoxidized natural rubber (ENR-50) was prepared at reflux temperature employed hydrochloric acid (HCl) as catalyst. HCl was found to be an effective catalyst to promote ring opening reaction of ENR-50 and tailored CpSSQ(OH)3to the ENR-50 polymer chains via chemical reaction. FTIR spectroscopy reveals a hydroxyl stretching indicating the occurrence of epoxide ring opening reaction.1H NMR analysis further proved the incorporation of CpSSQ(OH)3into ENR-50 polymer chains via shiftment of proton chemical shift and addition in the proton integrals. Si29NMR analysis evidence the Si-O-C bond through a chemical shift of silanol group from CpSSQ(OH)3.
