In this paper, the anti-calculated method for the static pressure associated with the silo structure is developed and the strain sensitivity is derived based on the formulations of the finite element method. In the proposed approach, the Taylor expansion technique at the initial guess strain is used to evaluate the hoop strain at adjacent points and the least square method are employed to match the numerical results and the known test results. Finally, the developed algorithm is verified by solving the silo with internal wall.

In this paper, a symmetrically coated damping structure for entangled metallic wire materials (EMWM) of pipelines was designed to reduce the vibration of high temperature (300 °C) pipeline. A series of energy dissipation tests were carried out on the symmetrically coated damping structure at 20–300 °C. Based on the energy dissipation test results, the hysteresis loop was drawn. The effects of temperature, vibration amplitude, frequency, and density of EMWM on the energy dissipation characteristics of coated damping structures were investigated. A nonlinear energy dissipation model of the symmetrically coated damping structure with temperature parameters was established through the accurate decomposition of the hysteresis loop. The parameters of the nonlinear model were identified by the least square method. The energy dissipation test results show that the symmetrically coated damping structure for EMWM of pipelines had excellent and stable damping properties, and the established model could well describe the changing law of the restoring force and displacement of the symmetrically coated damping structure with amplitude, frequency, density, and ambient temperature. It is possible to reduce the vibration of pipelines in a wider temperature range by replacing different metal wires.

Currently, the standards that deal with the determination of the properties of rigidity and strength for structural round timber elements do not take in consideration in their calculations and mathematical models the influence of the existing irregularities in the geometry of these elements. This study has as objective to determine the effective value of the modulus of longitudinal elasticity for structural round timber pieces of the Eucalyptus citriodora genus by a technique of optimization allied to the Inverse Analysis Method, to the Finite Element Method and the Least Square Method.

The main structure and key components of the precision EDM equipment are analyzed and researched in this paper. Key components such as main structure, A-axis, W-axis and R-axis are designed. Aimed to machine several kinds of diameters on a work piece, an on-line electrode milling method is studied. And then test this method on an EDM machine. Based on the test results, the functional relation between diameters and the wears of the electrode is confirmed by the least square method. According to this function, the efficiency of the EDM machining for the precision micro-holes is improved.

A new accurate calibrating technique for intrinsic parameters and extrinsic parameters of CCD camera is described. The camera model is derived by the pinhole projection theory. Then other parameters of the model are resolved under the radial alignment constraints and orthogonal constraints. In order to get a fine initial guess for the nonlinear searching solution, the least square method is introduced, and finally uses radial alignment constraint method to get the results. The experimental results show that the mean absolute differences in x direction and y direction are 0.0070 and 0.1430 separately while the standard deviation are 0.5006 and 1.2046 separately.

A novel pulsed neutron imaging technique based on the finite element method is used to reconstruct the residual strain within a polycrystalline material from Bragg edge strain images. This technique offers the possibility of a nondestructive analysis of strain fields with a high spatial resolution. The finite element approach used to reconstruct the strain uses the least square method constrained by the conditions of equilibrium. This inclusion of equilibrium makes the problem well-posed. The procedure is developed and verified by validating for a cantilevered beam problem. It is subsequently demonstrated by reconstructing the strain from experimental data for a ring-and-plug sample, measured at the spallation neutron source RADEN at J-PARC in Japan. The reconstruction is validated by comparison with conventional constant wavelength strain measurements on the KOWARI diffractometer at ANSTO in Australia. It is also shown that the addition of a Tikhonov regularisation scheme further improves the reconstruction.

By using the waveform measurements and the least square method, the duration of transient level, and the duration of transient decreasing segment of aircraft DC transient signal are evaluated precisely. The evaluation courses and some technical problems are discussed in detail, the uncertainty analysis both of the durations are presented. Some test results have proved the effectiveness and practicability of the method. It could be applied to the characteristic and performance evaluation of aircraft DC transient signal waveform generators.

In this paper, firstly, a new nonlinear Bingham hysteretic model is established by studying on the Test results of damping force characteristics of the magneto rheological fluid. The model not only can simulate the damping characteristics of the magneto rheological damper very well, but also can well describe the relationship between damping and velocity with the small velocity, and has fewer parameters by compared with other magneto rheological damper model. Secondly, based on nonlinear least square method, the parameters with different current are recognized and the relationship between the parameters and current is defined, then the mechanical model is theoretically verified. Furthermore, the mechanical model is simulated by ANSYS, the data obtained agree well with the calculated value.

A concept of a kidney uptake coefficient (UC) of 131I-o-hippurate was developed by analogy from the corresponding kidney clearance of blood plasma in the early period after injection of the hippurate. The UC for each kidney was defined as the count-rate over its ROI at a time shorter than the peak in the renoscintigraphic curve divided by the integral of the count-rate curve over the "blood"-ROI. A procedure for normalization of both curves against each other was also developed. The total kidney clearance of the hippurate was determined from the function of plasma activity concentration vs. time after a single injection; the determinations were made at 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 min after intravenous administration of 131I-o-hippurate and the best-fit curve was obtained by means of the least-square method. When the UC was related to the absolute value of the clearance a positive linear correlation was found (r = 0.922, ρ > 0.99). Using this regression equation the clearance could be estimated in reverse from the uptake coefficient calculated solely on the basis of the renoscintigraphic curves without blood sampling. The errors of the estimate are compatible with the requirement of a fast appraisal of renal function for purposes of clinical diagknosis.
