Towards the insufficiency of the research on asymmetric shape defects control, and the equipment of new asymmetric shape control device—inverse symmetric roll bending for UCM cold mill, in this paper, by ANSYS finite element simulation, high-precision rolls-strip coupling models were established, and the difference of control character among all the symmetric and asymmetric shape control methods were analyzed, then generalized overall shape setting control models with asymmetric shape control function was proposed. It was proved by field application that the control models can effectively control asymmetric and high-order shape defects with the coordination of all the symmetric and asymmetric shape control methods. Consequently, expansive research and apply prospect should be expected.

The sun control device has to be on the outside of the building, an element of the facade, an element of architecture. And because this device is so important a part of our open architecture, it may develop into as characteristic a form as the Doric column.Victor Olgyay (1910–1970), a Hungarian architect who came to the United States in 1947 with his twin brother and collaborator, Aladár (1910–1963), is best known today as the author of Design with Climate: Bioclimatic Approach to Architectural Regionalism (1963), an important book often referenced in the environmental building design field [1]. As leaders in research in bioclimatic architecture from the early 1950s to the late 1960s, the Olgyay brothers could be considered the ‘fathers’ of contemporary environmental building design. Their research and publications laid the foundation for much of the building simulation software in use today. Other than the difference between working on graph paper and using computer-generated graphics, there is little difference between Autodesk's Ecotect Analysis (simulation and building energy analysis software) and the Olgyays' techniques for the analysis of environmental factors and graphical representation of climate. The manner in which the Olgyays established connections between building design and the science of climate laid the foundation for the development of environmental simulation, one of contemporary architecture's leading methods of form generation. Victor Olgyay's teaching, however, represents another kind of thinking, a broader concern for architecture, beyond energy performance. ‘The primary task of architecture,’ Olgyay announced to his students, ‘is to act in man's favour; to interpose itself between man and his natural surroundings in order to remove the environmental load from his shoulders.

Underwater Positioning System (UPS) is a system to track the existence of the position of an object by utilizing the arrival time of the signal measurement. On land, the system uses an electromagnetic signal called GPS. However, because it cannot penetrate water effectively, an acoustic signal is used as an alternative. The purpose of this research is to engineer the control system of data acquisition and underwater acoustic device to measure arrival time (TOA) and apply equation model for underwater sound source positioning system. the effective frequency resonance of the transducer and the hydrophone is at a frequency of 6 kHz. The acquisition control device is able to measure the TOA signal with an error on a digital channel smaller than an analog channel. The difference between the TOA values measured by oscilloscope and acquisition control system is caused by inaccuracy of threshold estimates at the receiver's peak detector circuit. The position of the sound source coordinates obtained from the equation model shows the highest difference in depth point (z) compared to points (x) and (y), caused by the equation model used is limited to four hydrophone units forming a horizontal baseline.

This paper describes the design and field application of a high-efficiency single-phase AC/DC converter that is suitable for distribution lines. First, an appropriate AC/DC converter was designed in consideration of the environment of the application system. In order to ensure high efficiency and high reliability, we designed an optimum switching element and capacitor suitable for the converter, and the protection element of the AC/DC converter was designed based on these elements. The control function for the power converter suitable for an LVDC distribution system is proposed for highly reliable operation. The AC/DC converter was manufactured based on the design and its performance was verified during application in an actual low-voltage DC (LVDC) distribution grid through tests at the demonstration site. The application to a DC distribution system in an actual grid is very rare and it is expected that it will contribute to the expansion of LVDC distribution.

The island microgrid is composed of a large number of inverters and various types of power equipment, and the interaction between inverters with different control methods may cause system instability, which will cause the power equipment to malfunction. Therefore, effective methods for analyzing the stability of the microgrid system have become particularly important. Generally, impedance modeling methods are used to analyze the stability of power electronic converter systems. In this paper, the impedance models of a PQ-controlled inverter and droop-controlled inverter are established in d-q frame. In view of the difference of output characteristics between the two control methods, the island microgrid is equivalent to a double closed-loop system. The impedance model of the parallel system is derived and the open loop transfer function of the system is extracted. Based on the generalized Nyquist criterion (GNC), the stability of parallel system working in island microgrid mode is analyzed using this proposed impedance model. The simulation and experiment results are presented to verify the analysis.

The water hammer can cause great risks in water supply pipe systems. A surge tank is a kind of general water hammer control device. In order to improve the behavior of the surge tank, a self-adaptive auxiliary control (SAC) system was proposed in this paper. The system can optimize the response of the surge tank according to the transient pressure. The numerical model and the matched boundary conditions were established to simulate the improved surge tank and optimize the SAC system. Then, various transient responses were simulated by the proposed model with different parameters set. The proposed system is validated by comparing the water hammer process in a river-pipe-valve (RLV) system with and without SAC. The results show that the SAC can greatly improve the water hammer control of the pipeline and the water level oscillation of the surge tank. With the SAC system, the required vertical size of the surge tank can be significantly reduced with the desired water hammer control function.

In cold rolling process, asymmetric shape defects are still a common problem to strip quality. For the mills with inverse symmetry roll shifting system, different roll wear and thermal contour of top roll system and bottom roll system could cause asymmetric shape defects during shifting operation. In this paper, three dimension finite element simulation models of inverse shifting roll system were established to calculate the parameters and to analyze the effects. Based on the idea in the mill engineering that mill style option depended on the product grade, shifting weakness was evaluated and the opinion of limit shifting was suggested. To improve control effect to asymmetric shape defects in cold rolling, shape control system with asymmetric shape control ability is developed, including asymmetric edge drop control at upstream stands and asymmetric flatness control at last stand. The further improvement of asymmetric shape control theory and practice is the key way to reach the higher precision of shape quality in cold strip mills.

In this paper, a capacitance-based design of the tap water flow control device is introduced. It is designed to prevent the waste of water resources caused by the current taps. It collects the capacitance signal by means of C/F conversion module based on 555 timer. Then the switching frequency signal and the flow frequency signal are generated according to the capacitance signal collected. They will be analyzed and compared with the signal STC15F100 microcontroller stored and generating the switch commands and flow regulation instructions to control the step motor. Finally, the water flow control function is realized by the device.

The buckling restrained brace (BRB) that has been worldwide adopted as a structural control device possesses excellent energy dissipation mechanism and can overcome the disadvantages of the traditional brace. However, the traditional BRB is a fully close design, it is therefore impossible to inspect the condition of the internal components during manufacturing and after earthquakes. This study proposed an all-steel buckling restrained brace with windowed lateral support elements that allow inspecting the internal condition of the BRB. We also studied the optimization in selecting the sizes and positions of the windows in the internal components without affecting its strength to provide an economically feasible all-steel BRB that is convenient for manufacturing and installation and meets the rigorous testing protocols. The all-steel BRB consists of the steel core, lateral support and constraining elements. In this study, scaled all-steel BRBs were tested under cyclic loadings by using an MTS 250 kN test machine. Test results showed that the mechanical behavior of the BRB with windows on the sides of lateral support elements is stable and that damage always occurred at the energy dissipation sections after low cycle fatigue tests. The difference between tensile and compressive forces was small under identical strain, and the accumulated inelastic deformation exceeded the requirement of test protocols. These test results confirm that the windows opened on the proposed BRB have insignificant effects on the strength of the device and that the proposed device meets the design requirement and is thus considered as a stable energy dissipative apparatus.
