Experiment on bearing capacity of 24 Q460 high strength angle steel for compression members attached by one leg shows: the ultimate bearing capacity of the experiment value are higher than the calculated of the “Design of Latticed Steel Transmission Structures” (ASCE10-1997), on the same section in different slenderness ratio of components, the larger slenderness ratio, the higher the ratio; while on the same slenderness ratio in different sections, the greater width-thickness radio, the greater the ratio. Based on this problem, analyzing the current standard, a set of formulas based on high-strength angle struts connected by single Limb was brought, which can used for the design of the Q460 high-strength angle.

In this paper, using ABAQUS, 16 high-strength concrete filled high-strength square steel tube middle-long columns’ axial compression process were simulated. The load-deflection relationships were obtained and the new combination in improving the bearing capacity and plastic deformation has a great advantage. Realization of length variation slenderness ratio by changing the length of column, this paper also study the influence of slenderness ratio, the main parameters of the high-strength concrete filled high-strength square steel tube middle-long column. It is found that both bearing capacity and the plastic capacity are associated with slenderness ratio.

To investigate the applicability of the methods for calculating the bearing capacity of high-strength steel-reinforced concrete (SRC) composite columns according to specifications and the effect of confinement of stirrups and steel on the bearing capacity of SRC columns. The axial compression tests were conducted on 10 high-strength SRC columns and 4 ordinary SRC columns. The influences of the steel strength grade, the steel ratio, the types of stirrups and slenderness ratio on the bearing capacity of such members were examined. The analysis results indicate that using high-strength steel and improving the steel ratio can significantly enhance the bearing capacity of the SRC columns. When the slenderness ratio increases dramatically, the bearing capacity of the SRC columns plummets. As the confinement effect of the stirrups on the concrete improves, the utilization ratio of the high-strength steel in the SRC columns increases. Furthermore, the results calculated by AISC360-19(U.S.), EN1994-1-1-2004 (Europe), and JGJ138-2016(China) are too conservative compared with test results. Finally, a modified formula for calculating the bearing capacity of the SRC columns is proposed based on the confinement effect of the stirrups and steel on concrete. The results calculated by the modified formula and the finite element modeling results based on the confinement effect agree well with the test results.

At present, the relevant researches of Glulam columns in China are mainly restricted to short columns. In order to study the mechanical properties of long columns under axial loading, an experimental study on five different slenderness ratios of Larch Glulam columns was carried out. With slenderness ratio changing, the variations of experimental data such as axial strain, lateral deflection at mid-height, ultimate bearing capacity, and peak strain were comparatively analyzed. The failure pattern and failure mechanism of long columns were discussed. The results indicate that the ultimate bearing capacity of Larch Glulam columns gradually decreases as the slenderness radio increases and the failure mode is gradually converted from strength failure to instability failure. The ultimate load reduction factor is obtained by regression analysis based on the experiment results of Larch Glulam short columns. The basis for design and application of Larch Glulam columns are provided.

The influence on columns behaviors of slenderness ratio are analyzed, and the influence on columns’ anti-seismic behavior of axial compression ratio, stirrup ratio and steel form are analyzed through the test on bearing capacity and level load of low cycle reverse of steel reinforced high-strength concrete columns. The bearing capacity of the long columns reduces along with the slenderness ratio increasing and augments along with concrete strength increasing. Probability of suddenly destruct increases along with the column slenderness ratio augmenting through the test. In addition, anti-seismic behavior of columns are effected not only axial compression ratio, but also steel form. Axial compression coefficien of the steel reinforced high-strength concrete columns with different steel form may be adjusted, however, the influence of stirrup ratio is very little on anti-seismic behavior of columns.

To investigate the influence of wire mesh type, wrapped way and stress of column on the behavior of RC square columns, the experiment including an unreinforced column and 7 strengthened columns with the high strength wire mesh mortar were tested. The results were shown that the strength and axial deformation of columns reinforced by high strength wire mesh mortar were enhanced. Finally, the calculation formula for ultimate bearing capacity of the reinforced columns was given based on the test results, which agreed with the tested results well.

The external post-tensioning technique has been commonly used in the construction field because it facilitates the analysis of structures and is widely applicable for many types of structures. In this research, 12 steel H-beams were built and tested in terms of the amount of tendon or prestressing force. The results show that the externally prestressing method can increase ultimate bearing capacity of the beams. The prestressing force is the significant factor that influence the strengthening of steel H-beams. However, the amount of deviators cannot significantly influence the bearing capacity.

This paper presents an experimental investigation on the short composition columns reinforced with the prefabricated super high strength concrete used stone-chop(abbreviated to SHSCUS) filled with steel tubes with 1RC as reference. The experimental parameters were the concrete type inner steel tubes, and L/D ratio, steel ratio and so on. The performance of the composition columns was investigated using different diameter-to-thickness ratio of steel tubes ranging from 15 to 26.6, and different cubic strength of 126.7, 120.3, 122.4, 134.4, 125.4, 111.4, 108.6MPa of infill concrete. The experimental results showed that concrete cover falling off was prior to specimens failure, and that the design rule, as specified in current code suitable for HSC overestimate the ultimate bearing capacity, were not suitable for the case with SHSCUS. Then the hypothesis was put forward based on experimental phenomena observed, and the formula of its ultimate load capacity was suggested based on superposition method, by which the predicted values have a good coincidence with those from the experiments.

With the comprehensive development of ultra-high voltage (UHV) engineering projects in China, traditional strength of steel can not meet the demands of UHV transmission tower because of the great height, span and load. Therefore, it is necessary to widely use Q460 equal angle steel. The deficiency of studies on related theories and tests leads to the lack of sufficient basis for its use. In this paper, experimental and theoretical researches were carried out on the bearing capacity of compression members of Q460 equal angle steel. Based on the test results, design suggestions and methods were put forward.

In order to research the stability bearing capacity of high strength pole and tower compression members, analytical method and numerical simulation method were used to study stability on high strength axial compression members. Researched the impact of different slenderness ratio, different cross-section factors on the bearing capacity; energy relationship was using in analytical method, the boundary conditions issue is simplified according to different end restraint capacity; the failure modes and stability bearing capacity of members were studied by numerical simulation. Compared with the experimental results show that the numerical simulation and elastic theory analytical solution overestimate the capacity of members, but the numerical results have better agreement than the elastic theory analytical solution, which can show the numerical simulation method is right. Experiment method can obtain more secure mechanical behavior of high-strength angle steel member with axial loading.

Double-limb lipped channel section steel member is formed by connecting two single limb members with bolts in order to improve the buckling performance. In order to research the buckling form and ultimate bearing capacity of members with different slenderness ratios under axial load, nonlinear analysis of buckling performance is done to this kind of section using the finite element analysis software ANSYS. The influence on bearing capacity caused by height-breadth ratio of section, height-thickness ratio of web and breadth-thickness ratio of flange is analyzed. The results show that: (1) for larger slenderness ratio, complete buckling occurs to the column mainly and the slenderness ratio has larger influence on buckling bearing capacity, while for smaller slenderness ratio, local distortional buckling occurs more; (2) in a certain range, the increase of height-breadth ratio could raise the ultimate bearing capacity of member, but excessive height-breadth ratio would make the ultimate bearing capacity decrease, (3) the increase of both height-thickness ratio and breadth-thickness ratio would decrease the ultimate bearing capacity.
