In order to improve the lubricating performance of the headface sliding bearing, a new kind of the bionic headface sliding bearing, which has defined lubricating dimple pattern, has been designed based on the phyllotactic theory, and fabricated with UV lithography method and electrolytic technology. A electrolytic experiment of the dimple has been done and analyzed about the influence of the electrolytic time to the electrolytic depth against the different phyllotactic parameters. The analytical results indicate that the phyllotactic parameters influence the lubricating dimple arrangement configuration, so as to improve lubricating performance of the bearing. The increasing diameter of the dimple and the decreasing phyllotactic parameter c can increase the density of the lubricating dimple. Electrolytic experimental results show that the reasonable electrolytic fabricating can reduce the faults of defined lubricating dimple arrangement on the bearing surface.

In order to achieve the controllability of the abrasive arrangement on the working surface of grinding wheel,a new kind of the superabrasive grinding wheel, which has defined abrasive grain cluster pattern, has been designed based on the phyllotaxis theory of biology, and fabricated with UV lithography method and electroplating technology. The analytical results indicate that the phyllotactic parameters influence on the abrasive arrangement configuration on the work surface of the superabrasive grinding wheel, so as to improve grinding performance of the grinding wheel, increasing the diameter of phyllotactic abrasive grain cluster and decreasing phyllotactic coefficient can increases the abrasive grain density of the surperabrasive grinding wheel surface. Electroplating experimental results show that the reasonable electroplating processes can reduce the faults of defined abrasive arrangement on the superabrasive grinding wheel surface.

The main contours of the bearing surfaces of friction pairs with hydrodynamic lubrication are considered. Analysis of tabular data and graphs obtained by experimental methods made it possible to establish additional parameters of influence on the hydrodynamic characteristics of the friction process and the operational characteristics of tribological systems, in a wide range of load-speed modes. Keywords: sliding bearing, hydrodynamics, bushing, bearing surface, profile, circle, ellipse, wavy contour, wear. [email protected]

This paper deals with the strength and the sealing performance of pipe flange connections combining the bonding force of adhesives with the clamping force of bolts. The epoxy adhesives or anaerobic sealants are bonded at the interface partially instead of gaskets in pipe flange connections. The stress distribution in the epoxy adhesives (anaerobic sealant), which governs the sealing performance, and the variations in axial bolt force are analyzed, using an axisymmetrical theory of elasticity, when an internal pressure is applied to a connection in which two pipe flanges are clamped together by bolts and nuts with an initial clamping force after being joined by epoxy adhesives or anaerobic sealant. In addition, a method for estimating the strength of the combination connection is demonstrated. Experiments are performed and the analytical results are consistent with the experimental results concerning the variation in axial bolt force and the strength of combination connections. It can be seen that the strength of connections increases with a decrease in the bolt pitch circle diameter. Furthermore, it is seen that the sealing performance of such combination connections in which the interface is bonded partially is improved over that of pipe flange connections with metallic gaskets.

In this paper, a real microwave applicator with a wave guide used to launch the energy from the source into the cavity is analyzed using 3D TLM method. In order to investigate the influence of the positions and number of feed wave guides to the number of the resonant modes inside the cavity, obtained results are compared with analytical results and results obtained by using TLM software with an impulse excitation as well. TLM method is applied to the both empty and loaded rectangular metallic cavity, and a very good agreement between simulated and experimental results is achieved.

In the area of grinding, ordering the abrasive gains is one of the key ways to improve the grinding wheel performance. In this article, the experimental investigations on the grinding temperature were carried out including using the superhard abrasive grinding wheel with phyllotactic, matrix, dislocation and disordered configuration, the temperature distribution of the grinding workpiece surface and the effects of grinding parameters on the temperature of workpiece surface have been obtained. The experimental results showed that the grinding temperature can be reduced efficiently by choicing the grinding wheel with abrasive phyllotactic pattern.

The polycarbonate (PC) screw cap part had cracking problem during storage, which mechanism needed to be studied. The effect of mechanical processing on the intrinsic stress and its distribution in PC screw cap part was investigated in the paper. The analytical results indicated that the round pieces cut from polycarbonate bar had certain intrinsic stress residue from processing course, which decreased obviously after de-stress heat treatment. Mechanical processing also led to obviously increased intrinsic stress in screw cap part, which could be decreased obviously by another de-stress heat treatment. But the heat treatment increased the aging degree and cracking probability for polycarbonate screw cap part, and was not suggested to carry out on screw cap. Based on the experimental results, some suggestions were also given to lower the intrinsic stress in screw cap.

In Wenchuan Earthquake, masonry-infilled frames have the quite critical failures. In this paper, the reason of the failure phenomenon is analyzed and the influence of the infilled wall to performance of the frame is highlighted. An improved three-strut model for masonry-infilled frame structures is presented. Then, two RC frame specimens, which are modeled by the presented three-strut model and force-based beam-column element combined with fiber section considering compression-bending coupling in Opensees, are analyzed. The analytical results agree well with the experimental results. It is shown that the presented three-strut model is sufficient to simulate the performance of the infilled wall.

Novel piezoelectric shell stack in radial direction had been developed. The shell stack was composed of inner and outer shells which are bonded with each other by epoxy resin. The vibration and electromechanical characteristics of the piezoelectric shell stack were modeled and simulated by Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The send voltage response (SV) of both single and double shells under water were computed. Particularly the analytical results of shell stack presented in resonance frequency varying with the radius and thickness had been compared with experiments. The computations show agreement with the experimental results, and the errors are less than 1.28%.
