In order to let the student understand the linear motion module’ principles and know how to improve the dynamic performance and control accuracy, a mathematical model is established based on the analysis of the composition and working principle of linear motion module. On the load and unload conditions, we simulate and analyze the system respectively. In the load case, PID parameters are obtained after the PID regulation. The correction of establishing the mathematical model and simulating the system are verified so that the linear motion model’ precision is effectively enhanced.

The project designed the rebar cutting machine which commonly used in the construction industry. The main working principle of the rebar cutting machine is that the motive power provided by the motor, after reducing the speed through the primary belt transmission and secondary gear transmission decelerator, it will drive the crankshaft rotating, and the crankshaft drives the connecting rod to make the slide and moving blade do the reciprocating linear motion in the slipway, and select the crank-slider mechanism as the mechanical actuator. In order to cut rebar, we will make the activity blade and fixed blade staggered.

In the present work, investigations by high frequency resonance technique for diagnosis of defect frequencies of linear motion unit are reported. Raw vibration signature of the moving parts at different speeds of operation has been demodulated. Envelope detected spectrum is analyzed to evaluate various defect frequencies and their energy levels. Experimentally evaluated frequencies are compared with theoretically determined defect frequencies. These frequency values and their energy levels are used to monitor intrinsic condition of linear motion unit as well as to establish severity of existing/developed defects on the LM guide and inside the LM block. Relative comparisons of linear motion units of the same type are made at various operating speeds under identical conditions of operation on the basis of identified defect frequencies and severity of defects.

In order to minimize the friction when the linear motion unit in the movement, the new type unit based on permanent magnet was designed. The Halbach Array magnet structure was adopted in the unit. It can realize the stable suspension with the combination of gravitation and repulsion. The new type units have good performance and broad application prospects.

Water jet incremental sheet metal forming is the leading research topic in sheet metal forming industry, recently. In this work, a five-axis machine for water jet incremental sheet metal forming is designed and built, which is made up of four parts, namely linear motion unit, nozzle tilt and rotation unit, fixture and seal chamber. The nozzle tilt and rotation unit has two rotation degrees of freedom and the linear motion unit has three translational degrees of freedom. Then, two types of nozzles including L type nozzle and upright nozzle are designed and built. Finally, two different kinds of fixture are designed and built for common sheet metal forming and bellows expansion joints forming, respectively.

Workpiece flipping equipment is widely used in hexagon workpiece multi face and work station processing. Hydraulic drive has advantages of easy linear motion achivement, high power quality ratio and rapid dynamic response, etc. It is an essential element of modern mechanical engineering and one of the key technologies of engineering controls. Hydraulic drive system of the hexagon workpiece flipping equipment was designed, the hydraulic system schematic was drawn, its working principle was analysed. The workpiece flipping was successfully achieved by using hydraulic technology, it obtained good results in practical applications.
