The layered FeOCl has been synthesized from Fe2O3 and FeCl3 by chemical vapor transport technique at 380°C., and an intercalation of sodium benzoate into as-synthesized FeOCl was conduct. After the intercalation composites were sonicated for 4 h in butyl alcohol, the colloidal suspension of layered iron oxide nanosheets was obtained. The FeOCl and the intercalation composites were analyzed by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) was also used to characterize the morphologies of the FeO+ Nanosheets. Except to this, the selected area electron diffraction was also performed to examine the iron nanosheets.

We report optimized crystal growth conditions for the quarternary compound AgCrP2S6 by chemical vapor transport. Compositional and structural characterization of the obtained crystals were carried out by means of energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction. AgCrP2S6 is structurally closely related to the M2P2S6 family, which contains several compounds that are under investigation as 2D magnets. As-grown crystals exhibit a plate-like, layered morphology as well as a hexagonal habitus. AgCrP2S6 crystallizes in monoclinic symmetry in the space group P2/a (No. 13). The successful growth of large high-quality single crystals paves the way for further investigations of low dimensional magnetism and its anisotropies in the future and may further allow for the manufacturing of few-layer (or even monolayer) samples by exfoliation.

ABSTRACTWe present the metalorganic chemical vapor deposition growth, n-type and p-type doping and characterization of AlxGa1-xN alloys on sapphire substrates. We report the fabrication of Bragg reflectors and the demonstration of two dimensional electron gas structures using AlxGa1-xN high quality films. We report the structural characterization of the AlxGa1-xN / GaN multilayer structures and superlattices through X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. A density of screw and mixed threading dislocations as low as 107 cm-2 was estimated in AlxGa1-xN / GaN structures. The realization of AlxGa1-xN based UV photodetectors with tailored cut-off wavelengths from 365 to 200 nm are presented.

Cu2FeSnS4semiconductor nanocrystals with zincblende structure have been successfully synthesized by a hot-injection approach. Cu+, Fe2+, and Sn4+cations have a random distribution in the zincblende unit cell, and the occupancy possibilities are 1/2, 1/4 and 1/4, respectively. Those nanocrystals were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and UV-Vis-NIR absorption spectroscopy. The Cu2FeSnS4 nanocrystals have an average size of 7.5 nm and a band gap of 0.92 eV.

Titanium based nanotubes (8-12nm outer diameter and 4-6nm inner diameter) were successfully fabricated by a simple and cost-effective hydrothermal method. The nanotube-like amorphous phases TNT(Na) and TNT(H) were obtained with different post treatment. The samples were characterized by means of high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), energy dispersive X-ray spectrum (EDS) and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The photocatalytic activities of the nanotubes were evaluated using photo-oxidation of methyl orange.

The solvent-mediated eco-friendly monodispersed Ag/Pd bimetallic nanocomposites (BNCs) having thick core and thin shell have been prepared through novel green chemical solvent reduction method. Reducing solvent, dimethyl formamide (DMF) is employed for the controlled green synthesis. Characterization of the synthesized Ag/Pd BNCs has been done by x-ray diffraction (XRD) studies, high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HR-SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) with selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern. The nature of the interaction of L-cysteine with Ag/Pd BNCs has been studied by using surface plasmon spectroscopy, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and theoretical methods.

In this work, structure, optical, and thermoelectric properties of layered ZrS2−xSex single crystals with selenium composition of x = 0, 1, and 2 were examined. Single crystals of zirconium dichalcogenides layer compounds were grown by chemical vapor transport method using I2 as the transport agent. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) results indicated that ZrS2−xSex (x = 0, 1, and 2) were crystalized in hexagonal CdI2 structure with one-layer trigonal (1T) stacking type. X-ray photoelectron and energy dispersive X-ray measurements revealed oxidation sensitive behavior of the chalcogenides series. Transmittance and optical absorption showed an indirect optical gap of about 1.78 eV, 1.32 eV, and 1.12 eV for the ZrS2−xSex with x = 0, 1, and 2, respectively. From the result of thermoelectric experiment, ZrSe2 owns the highest figure-of merit (ZT) of ~0.085 among the surface-oxidized ZrS2−xSex series layer crystals at 300 K. The ZT values of the ZrS2−xSex (x = 0, 1, and 2) series also reveal increase with the increase of Se content owing to the increase of carrier concentration and mobility in the highly Se-incorporated zirconium dichalcogenides with surface states.

A chemical vapor transport (CVT) method was implemented to grow bulk ZnO crystals. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and optical microscope (OM) studies were carried out to characterize the surface properties of the grown crystal. The XRD result indicated the exposed solid-vapor interface of the as-grown crystal was composed of (0001) and {101-1} faces. Using SEM and OM, we observed small hexagonal pyramids and microstructures formed of crosslines on the as-grown crystal and found hexagonal thermal etching pits on the surfaces of seed crystals. The formation, evolution, and distribution mechanisms of the microstructures were investigated.

By means of sonochemical method, Fe 3 O 4 and ZnFe 2 O 4 nanocrystallines can be synthesized from FeCl 2/ urea and ZnCl 2/ FeCl 2/ urea in water. The products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) as well as selected area electron diffraction (SAED). Special attention was paid to the microstructure of the nanocrystallines using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HREM). Probable mechanisms for the sonochemical formation of Fe 3 O 4 and ZnFe 2 O 4 nanocrystallines are discussed.
